Consistently the best steak in town. Â Best atmosphere. Â Best date-night destination in town. Â Price is a little above the norm in town but all of the items are really good. Â My favorite is the duck when they have it. Â Great place for drinks on the patio. Â Cigar friendly. Â Good mix of bands on the weekends. Â Only knock on BP are the waitresses at times. Â Usually a lot snootier than any place in town but the food and surroundings are so solid...I don't let it ruin my meal.
Review Source:I thought this was great especially for the Knoxville area, probably my best meal this week. Cool atmosphere and good service. It's a cigar bar, so you might get a whiff during dinner and drinks - that's my only complaint. I might not go back though because of this and also because location wasn't too great.
Review Source:I've really learned to love this place. Especially in Wintertime, when it's cold outside and you come in for a blue cheese stuffed olive martini by the fireplace. Â
It can get smoky in here (cigars and cigarettes) so beware. Â This will never cease to bother me. But if you get there early enough you might have the fireplace and sofas to yourself. Â
And it's really cozy and romantic.
And their happy hour specials during the week are wonderful.
3.5, but Yelp doesn't allow half stars. I like Baker Peter's for several reasons. It's a cool building, I don't have to drive all the way downtown, and it's cool to eat in a place focused on jazz, live music, and history. My beef with the place, is that the menu is overpriced. There are a lot of good dishes to chose from (get the sliders), but they all could cost $3.00 less.
Now on to the drinks and patio. Baker Peter's has a lengthy martini and specialty drink list. The drinks are overpriced too, but they do taste pretty good. The patio is great for live music, but if a popular band is playing the seats fill up quick. If you chose to sit in the restaurant/lounge area you really can't hear anything. Also, the patio is AC free and relies on screens for a breeze. That's great in theory, but the really muggy Knox nights can make the patio a challenge. I'd still suggest this place for drinks and music. Just bring your wallet and head upstairs.
Our first visit here had both hits and misses. Â The hits: lobster bisque, beef tenderloin appetizer, spaetzle side dish. Â Misses: watered down martini, smokers on the patio (which was totally enclosed and although the smokers were across the room, our clothes wreaked of smoke afterwards and the smoke certainly detracted from the dining experience. Â When we were offered the choice of the patio we were not told that smoking was allowed.) Our main courses (rack of lamb and wild boar chop special) were good but not great. Overall impression, over priced for quality of meal.
Review Source:I brought my girlfriend here one of on a whim. I was told about this place and had seen it several times but never really had a chance to go there. We walked into a very nice home-like environment. The greeter was a well dressed gentleman. We told him we had never been there before and we interested in Dessert and a drink. He pointed us upstairs and told us we could stand or we could sit in the dinning room if we found a server. There patio was being remodeled for Valentines day so outside was not an option (plus it was cold, lol). We went upstairs and it felt a bit cramped and loud with the band so close to everyone so we got a drink from a Server named Ashley. We told her we wanted to sit down in a dinning area. She proceeded to look at us snarlingly and tell us they may not be serving dinner right now but she would check. Then she asked if we were going to be eating. I told her we were considering it. We were sat down and abruptly asked what we wanted by her. We told her Crem Brulee. She seemed pissed off and began to remove everything off of our table and simply not say a word to us. She even took our napkins. When we asked for a napkin she looked at us like we were dumb and said "You eat it with a spoon!" ...my girlfriend and i stared at each other and realized then than we were not going back to that place. The brulee was nice, but after the bill we simply tipped here what she was worth to us 10% and then left. DO not go unless you just want loud music and a fun atmosphere with no real service.
Review Source:I will not write a lengthy review for this place because i was already so buzzed when I got here that I might not be 100% accurate.
Great interior and wonderful decor. This place is a restaurant by day and a lounge by night. It had a mixed crowd mostly in the upper 30s to early 40s. My friend proceeded to by the drink of the night called Read headed Slut. I liked the place allot because out on the huge open balcony there was a band playing and it seemed like everyone knew each other. This was my first stop in the South of our nation on my cross country trip and thus far I dug the southern hospitality. The waitresses were super hot and wholesome (pardon the description but thats all I can think of), and the environment was intone with the Southern theme.
My experience made me want to come back to this place and try the food menu but unfortunately I only had a few days in Knoxville. Maybe Next time.
It is a fantastic place to dine in Knoxville. Â When I visit family and friends in Tennessee, this has to be a stop. Â I will say, you have to make sure you get a good table, some are in awkward areas of the house. Â I'm neurotic about where I am placed. Â
The food is well prepared, excellent presentations, and the live music on the atrium is always entertaining. Â Baker Peter's also boasts an affluent crowd as well. Â Many of Knoxville's most distinguished people dine here. Â It is both classy and elegant. Â As for prices, I would assume the East Tennessee crowd could label it pricey, I'll just say, if you have it do it. Â If you don't move on, there is always Applebee's.

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday because he knows I love a good steak. He had bought a certificate from http://Restaurant.com and we had to spend a min. of $100, easily done. We started off with the Smoked Salmon Tartare. I thought the goat cheese came as a side garnish, not mixed with it. It didn't even taste like goat cheese, more like cream cheese. I had the Filet Oscar with a huge lump of crab meat, asparagus, and white truffled mash potatoes. The steak was cooked and flavored perfectly, Â but the asparagus was really salty. The mash potatoes were creamy and delicious. My boyfriend had the Au Poivre Filet, which was also cooked and flavored nicely. They didn't have a wide variety of desserts because they weren't a big request. We got the creme brulee and two orders of martinis, $5 for a martini sounds really good to me! The service was great, she even gave me a $25 complimentary gift card for my birthday and because the food took awhile, which I didn't even notice.
1 star for service, 1 star for atmosphere, and 2 stars for great steaks!
This experience broke my heart. Baker Peters was known as one of the best restaurants in town. Our dinner was just so-so. The cut of steak was spectacular, that's true. But the sides were just ok, the food wasn't all that hot temp-wise. The service was attentive. We learned that they had problems in the kitchen, one of the staff went home sick so they were shorthanded. Um, sorry? Not my fault. When I pay over $100 for a dinner for 2, call me crazy, but I expect the food to be served piping hot.
Maybe it was an off night. I'd try it again, but I was sorely disappointed the other night.
A very nice restaurant for a special occasion. We went for an early Valentine's Dinner. The food is good, although it does seem overpriced. As a vegetarian, I was just planning on having a salad and a vegetable side dish, but the chef was able to customize a vegetarian pasta dish for me, although it was $25.
Not sure we would return, but we enjoyed our experience! The jazz was also lovely - we sat out on the (heated) patio and enjoyed the jazz right behind us.
Went there the other night for drinks with friends. Â Hadn't been in a while and found it to be way too smoky for us, however we chose to stay and have our drink. Â
Our waitress was completely unattentive, and when she had to go behind the bar to bartend, another waitress served us who wasn't much better. Â When we tabbed out, the bartender (waitress #1) took our credit cards, sneered when we said we wanted it split down the middle and then proceeded to throw them and our receipts on the bar, where anyone could have picked them up. Â Our friend we were with saw her do this and went to retrieve them himself. Â
Needless to say, she got no tip other than one from our friend who told her she should take a good look at her attitude and lack of service. Â
Not his words exactly, but I don't want to use his language here! Â LOL
We won't go back. Â Too bad, because last time I was there years ago, the food was pretty good even though it is pricey.
I have never had more than appetizers here so I cannot really say anything about the food. Â The drinks are always good. Â They have a large outdoor patio and a nice indoor bar where live jazz music is played. Â It is one of the only places in town for jazz. Â Go here for a before dinner cocktail or even after dinner.
