Had a fantastic dinner here last night. Â They only serve dinner on Thursday (Italian night) and Friday nights. Â The five of us were seated by a window overlooking the golf course. Â We began with drinks (they have a full bar) and fresh sourdough bread. Â Next we had the Banny's Classic salad, a longtime favorite. Â Entrees included filet mignon with Gorgonzola butter sauce, a surf and turf combo of New York steak and prawns, chicken with portabella mushrooms, and a pork chop. Â All were cooked to perfection. Â Our server was prompt, attentive, and friendly.
This is a family run restaurant that has always served fresh, creative California cuisine. Â Ten minute drive from downtown Sonora and well worth it!
Went to Bannys thinking it was as good as it was when it was down town.Boy, were we wrong. The waittress was much more concerned with the young male customers than us. Didn,t bother to tell us the specials so I ended up with the worst burger I,ve had in a long time. Was looking for a pasta dish but not seeing anything we had to settle for the burger. Come to find out, when I saw a pasta plate being served to the young man on the deck, there was a pasta special. Never was told about it. Wattress delivered our food and we never saw her again. All the good reviews are talking about the old Bannys down town, not the one at  Mountain Springs golf course. Won't be back until they start caring about what they are doing. Also: service was slow and we didn,t even get the food the way we ordered it.
Review Source:If I could give this place six stars I would do it. Yes, service was on the slow side but it forced my husband and I to wind down and have time to talk and catchup. We don't make enough time to do that so it was great. Laura, my Bay Area friend and I rate everything here not with stars but whether it's going to be declared Gold Country Good (as in pretty good by Gold Country standards) or Bay Area Good (by this snotty Bay Area Foodie reviewer) as in really, really seriously good food. Trust me. Â This place is Bay Area GOOD with homemade pastas and a decent wine list that doesn't kill your pocket book. I had Stuffed Cabbage which was a good old fashioned treat. Bread Pudding was also a treat but tho is was served piping hot on the outside, the inside was still a touch cold. Still, this snotty reviewer will be returning first chance she gets. Another note: portions aren't huge but it's QUALITY, not QUANTITY!
Review Source:The pasta was homemade, which is rare in any restaurant these days and my entree was good. The bread was pipping hot when brought out and my salad was yummy - leaf not head lettuce.
My sister and I did not experience the wait that a few others have mentioned, but it could be that we arrived at exactly 4:30 when they open for the evening and there was only 2 other couples.
It was to warm in there for an over 100 degree day. Drank more water then I ever do at a restaurant just to try and keep myself cool. No ceiling fans which would've helped a ton. Didn't feel like the AC was on very high.
I was saddened to see some of the rough reviews here but not completely surprised. I've probably eaten at Banny's 30-40 times over the years and have always had excellent meals. However, the service has sometimes been poor and the wait unbearable. Therefore, I can only go there when I have plenty of time.
I have never said anything to Rosetta because she is a sharp lady and clearly knows. I just think they have made a conscious decision to have a very relaxed atmosphere. If you have that in mind it can be a refreshing change from the rushed service you receive in the vast majority of restaurants these days.
Four-star food, but slow delivery and sometimes indifferent servers make it a three.
If I were just reviewing the food, I'd give it four stars, but I have had to wait and wait and wait for my food. Â
I don't mind waiting 15 minutes for my food if it's freshly made, but I've waited 1/2 hour for a salad. Â Way too long.
I usually don't go here just because I can usually find food as good as this other places without the long wait.
Banny's is one of the best restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of dining at. Â The food is not only incredibly affordable but it is truly some of the best dishes I have ever had. I live in Sacramento and when ever I visit the Sonora area (which is fairly often, being as I have family in the area) I make sure to visit Banny's. Â Whether I'm just in for a quick Classic salad Lunch or if I have time for a full Filet Dinner, the food never disappoints. Â I greatly recommend the Filet Mignon, it is one of the best cuts I have ever received and is very tender. Â I also love the homemade pasta that they often special. Â I also recommend any of the desserts. Â They are all homemade which I believe is difficult to find today. Â The cheesecake & mousses are some of my personal favorites. Â The restaurant also offers a very nice wine selection and the young woman that often works behind the wine bar is very knowledgeable about the wine and food pairing. Â I highly recommend this restaurant to any local or traveler.
Review Source:My wife and I were lured into Banny's by the big sign advertising its new menu, which consisted of a variety of apparently Tuscan-inspired dishes. After finishing off a plate of warm bread, we started to lose heart when more than half an hour went by before our food arrived. Our waiter, who looked barely a day over 18, basically ignored us the whole time. When the food finally arrived, the risotto was more like a cheesy rice soup and the pannini was a greasy mess. Both tasted moldy. After little more than a bite (more than one only to confirm that the food was as bad as we suspected), we cut our losses and got the hell out of there. This restaurant pretty much ruined our visit to Sonora, and I suspect that if we had eaten any more we probably would have been poisoned.
Review Source:In the last 4 years, I've tried about 10 of the "higher end" restaurants in the Sonora-Jamestown area and I think this is the best one I've eaten at so far. Â To begin with, the bread is warm and fresh right of the oven and is some of the best bread I've had, Â The entrees I've had are scumptious, excellent rack of lamb with mint, and filet mignon with gargonzola butter is fabulous. Â This restaurant, despite being in a small rural town, is of the highest "Bay Area" quality. Â It's too bad it's located on a side street with a sign that doesn't stick out, as I believe a lot Bay Area tourists miss it and would be thrilled to find a place of this quality in Sonora. Â I say, give this place a try if you are anywhere near Sonora.
Review Source:Lots of reasons why I love Banny's:
-good food, esp. filet mignon (rare) and the changing specials, this w/e tried the pasta with duck sausage, so good! try the butternut squash soup, so good. I'm not crazy about their goat cheese, but to each his own I guess... The chicken is good, and the polenta is hella good too, better than it used to be, its like all moist with this herby olive oil.
-the wine, I mean it makes sense that a wine bar has good wine, right? Personal fave is the sauvignon blanc ciego. Also there is a really good pinot noir, thanks lauren for getting me to try it. The Muir Hanna rose is good too, a little sweet for me but def not bad.
-the art inside is amazing, like hella tree scenes.
-cute waiters.
The bathroom is kind of weirdly decorated but actually could be a good place to hook up in. LOL
**update** Ciego is back in the house! not by the bottle, just by the split, but I don't think its back on the menu quite yet. Try the Grenache too, its so good. And the Concannon Pinot Noir. For lunch, chicken and brie sandwich. Seriously the best food I've had in a while, as most of my food repertoire consists of mac and cheese and microwave pizza.
