We were in town for a night from Brooklyn and I yelped this place and it had a deal...this place is super well intentioned, i can tell they want to care and do well. the only problem...is that someone doesn't know what they're doing. the portions are HUGE, so huge in fact that it will literally end up costing this place it's business. If everyone is leaving with to-go containers that are completely full, you've just charged half price for two meals. Be generous, but be smart. The brisket was pretty good, the fat hadn't properly rendered out so there was a bit of hunting to get the meat portion out of some of the cuts. Crispy crust on the outside was excellent. The green beans (my hope at something green and healthy) tasted so bizarre, like old oil or a burnt pan. They were sopping wet with oil and I couldn't eat them. The mashed sweets were pretty good, if a touch too sweet, but I finished them (the next day). Pulled pork was good, not particularly flavorful but with the house sauce it was good enough.
The price was so right, but I want this place to stick around, so take some really heartfelt advice from a fellow food business owner - mind your oil (green beans dont need any), cut your portions by 30% and your profits will increase(and spend less on takeout containers), and season your mac n cheese - it was creamy but flavorless, we were bummed! Â You won our compassion and we want you to do well! thanks red!
This little gem is hard to find but totally worth it. Insanely good ribs, pulled pork & brisket and don't skip the fries and Mac and cheese (it has a hidden surprise). Corn bread was a little dry but tasty (just needed butter & should be served warm.) Service is 5+. They even tolerated my 2 y/o running laps around the place. Â New favorite place on rte 9. Watch out billy joes- these guys have you dead to rights. Saved my first review for a place that deserved it. 5/5
Review Source:Last time was so good, I came back. This time I brought my father along with me. After spending quite a bit of time in Texas, and perfecting his own BBQ at home, I knew he'd be impressed.
I was right, he couldn't stop raving about the food, and he's already planning his next trip down for some more.
After this visit, I have to retract my negative comments about the corn bread, this time it was moist and perfectly dense with tons of flavor. The ribs, mac and cheese, and coleslaw were again fabulous. Also, the beans had less of the harsh salt flavor from before, making them even better than before (though quite a few of them still had stems on -- a bit too rustic for me).
We got brisket (I've never been a fan of BBQ brisket 'cause it's usually too dry) and it was amazing--juicy and flavorful.
The mashed sweet potatoes were much better than I expected ('cause what can you do to a sweet potato?), they weren't over mashed, leaving plenty of chucks of unadulterated potato which was wonderful combined with the spicy, but not too sweet seasoning on them.
My only complaint? As we were getting ready to leave a couple of groups came in and the two servers seemed over their heads -- looks like they're just so good they'll have to expand ;)
My husband and I love food. We are always looking for the next new place we can recommend to friends and family. Â We then rave about it nonstop until said family or friends try it too. Â BBQ Red is that new place for us. Â With large, fairly priced, delicious portions of wonderful BBQ foods, you really can't go wrong with anything you order there. The owner and staff are extremely warm and gracious. You can even look on their Facebook page to see what kind of cool off-menu items they are cooking up that day in their kitchen. Â My husband's favorite dish there so far is the brisket. Â The mashed sweet potatoes are delectable and the corn bread is out of this world delicious. Â If you haven't tried this gem yet, please get yourself over to BBQ Red, you won't be sorry.
Review Source:Stopped here randomly for dinner with my girl. Place has a cool atmosphere and the service was super friendly and accomodating. We started off with the house BBQ wings, the sauce was amazing and the chicken was crispy. I had the brisket sandwich and I have to say it was one of the best I have ever had ( I go out to BBQ joints in NYC all the time so that's saying something.) My girlfriend had the BBQ chopped salad with pulled chicken and this sounds stupid but she said that "the meat to salad ratio was just right." Lol Larger portions were served so it was good we got to take some salad to go! Overall this is one of the better places I have eaten in this area and I'd def go back for sure!! Awesome food and good service so I give it 5 stars!
