My friends and I got there just in time before the Saturday lunch crunch. Â We split the pear blue cheese salad and the turkey avocado sandwich. Â The salad dressing was delicious and all the components that went in the salad were thoughtfully chosen. Â It could have been a hard as rock pear, waxy rubbery porsciutto and institutional blue cheese. Â I also hate a salad that's ice cold. Â The pear was just right, hazelnut toasted well, blue cheese was flavorful and the porsciutto was luscious. Â I used just a touch of dressing.
I eat turkey on whole grain bread all the time and I accept that it can be a little dry. Â This sandwich wasn't dry at all. Â The avocado makes the entire sandwich really moist and helps to blend the flavors of the turkey, cheese and bread.
We also ordered the bread pudding which was just a little dryer than I like my pudding. Â I like it where there are little pockets of custard. Â This is the kind that is well brown on top and all the custard are soaked up by the bread. Â IMHO this could have used a sauce or ice cream.
We had a lovely lunch until the crowd came in and they were literally on top of you waiting for you to finish your meal.
I've been a regular here for over two years and I must say that this really is the place to go in beacon. Â My favorite dishes are the Vietnamese Pork Sandwich, their egg sandwich baked in a roll with chives and bacon, and their bread pudding, chocolate caramel or ginger peach. Â the owner and staff are very friendly and down to earth. This place has a very eclectic feel to it. Â Reminds me of Greenwich village in the city.
