I went here with a friend from Burlingame while I was visiting from out of L.A. on business. Â I fell in love with this little dive bar, the wood decor in the bar area was great and the patio I thought was top notch. Â For smokers they do allow smoking in their patio area. Â The drinks were not too expensive and the people there was great to be around.
I definitely will go back when I'm in Burlingame again. Â Keep up the good work Behan's you are a hidden GEM among too many yuppy bars.
I decided to branch out tonight. Â (Actually, I was forced to branch out tonight since I met a crazy person at my usual spot and fear that he will return to eat more raw onion and then hit on me relentlessly.) Â
I decided to stop by Behan's to watch the Giants game. Â I was pleasantly surprised. Â This is a cool bar. Â I even got stuck sitting next to some loud, drunk, old-timey Giants fans, but I didn't mind. Â I liked the bartender--she was hands-off in a good way. Â Unlike most people, I like to go to a bar and STFU. Â It's a gift. Â
The music selection was entertaining. Â When I walked in, the Corrs were playing, followed by G 'n' R, then Kelis, then Lady Gaga. Â That's a weird selection for a Burlingame bar. Â But I can dig it.
I ordered a Sierra Nevada (aka "Old Reliable") and watched 7 innings of the Bay Bridge series without incident. Â No raw onion. Â Methinks I've found a new watering hole.
I've been here once for a very short time. A girl I know was going to get a facial down the street and while waiting in the car, I was cruising yelp and saw an "Irish Pub" right down the street and my interest was sparked. I waltzed down the street and was quite impressed by the nightlife feel of Broadway since I'm pretty unfamiliar with this side of the bay. When i walked in, there were about 4 other people loosely hanging around here and there. I sat at the bar and the bar tender took a break from reading a news paper and served me my Guinness. He poured it with extreme care and I was quite impressed by this because with his Irish accent, I was quite confident that he knew what he was doing and would surely pour me a beautiful glass of Guinness; low and behold, this was the case.
The ambiance of the place was SO cool that I was almost taken aback when I first opened the door. There was lots of brown and lots of fine wood grain all over the place and if there are two things that absolutely steal my heart away when it comes to ambiance it is brown and it is wood grain -- love that. Another cool thing about the feel of this place was the set up of the bar, lots of glasses, nice bottles of liquor tastefully lined up, mirrored walls, and sections of clear Christmas lights overhead(another thing I absolutely love).
Since I didn't spend much time here, I didn't have time to feel out the type of crowd, but everyone was nice, struck up a good conversation, and had a good glass of beer in a cool place -- thats deserving of 5 stars in my eyes. If I lived in Burlingame I would most definitely stop in for a beer again with a few buddies, very cool place.
I was here on 11-18-12 at 9:26pm for karaoke, I submitted my song and waited close to 10pm. Â Note: the bar itself is good, but If karaoke begins at 9:30pm and ends at 1am, and nothing being done, I left and went to another karaoke bar. it's too short. Â I think most karaoke should be at least 4 hours.
Review Source:Saw Jerry Sauceda and Lion Chase perform here a few weeks back. Â Epic show! Â Can not wait for the next event.....

My first visit here was to celebrate St. Patty's day. Â Due to the inclement weather, we decided to skip the SF festivities and stay local.
That resulted in the most awesome state of affairs (short of finding a leprechaun in my pocket). Â This low-key pub in downtown Burlingame exceeded our expectations, and a savage good time was had by all.
My Guinness was poured perfectly - I only drink beer once in a blue moon, so it had better be good! Â The bartenders worked quickly, the mixed crowd was very friendly (I've never had so many random conversations waiting in line for the restroom, or WC), and the entertainment factor was high because they moved Karaoke Sunday to Saturday.
On the back patio, they were serving corned beef and cabbage, gratis (apparently a 20+ year tradition according to yet another friendly patron chatting us up)...and it was tasty!
This place was definitely a rainbow after the storm :)
BY FAR ONE OF THE GREATEST places on this planet!!!. I grew up with this place and these people. Behan's and the people have always been friendly and accommodating. Singing, darts, great people from Ireland and locals make this a superb place to be at all times. Everyone should stop by at least 10 times!!! Â :)
Review Source:I'm shocked I haven't written a review for Behan's yet. It's the closest bar to my parent's house. It's also nice to stop by here on the way home from Village Host or bring the food there if you want. Bartenders are awesome, Nora, Paul, Bernie, etc. are great. They have karaoke on Sunday nights and apparently SF Giant Aubrey Huff sung a few country songs.
Yes, cash only, though they do have an ATM. Drinks are reasonably priced.
They have shuffleboard and darts if you're really bored. Ask behind the bar to borrow the dice if you want to play a few games.
If you're single I wouldn't count on going here to pick up a lady. Not saying it couldn't happen but I tend to go here with a group and run in to some old friends and/or locals. It's also open on Thanksgiving and Christmas where there are all sorts of reunions. I will always be a fan of "The Heater."
I love this bar, it is stumbling distance for most of my friends - so we can drink all night and not worry about driving. It is always filled with faces I do and don't wanna see, but it is always a great time. Especially during the holidays, it is a tradition to finish with family and come here after thanksgiving and christmas dinner.
Cheers!
It's a local Irish pub that we like to come to. Â It is a good place to come hang out with friends, have a few drinks and play some darts and shuffleboard.
Drinks are pretty reasonable priced and it i CASH only.
We like to come here and play shuffleboard and darts. Â It is no fuss and a good place to hang out with friends.
This place was a cool "downtown Burlingame" bar. Â Of course Burlingame isn't very big to begin with, but this little bar was memorable and cute.
It has an out door patio in back and its quite cute. Gets busy on the weekends and Fridays (as any bar would).
The Irish owner/bartender can be kinda rude or appear snappy at times- but I think that just comes with dealing with the many a-holes at a bar.
I'll go back to this place when I visit friends in this area.
Who doesn't love an Irish Pub with Irish shuffleboard?? Â Interesting music selection from reggae to top 20, but it worked for all intents and purposes. Â Enjoyed Stella on tap and had a grand time playing Irish shuffleboard with friends. Â Definitely an unexpected surprise on Broadway in Burlingame. Â Will be stopping by here again if we're in the area.
Review Source:When I lived in Burlingame this was my haunt and I miss it dearly even with all the places to go to up in the city. Shuffle board, darts and the every amazing karaoke sundays. What's not to like? The drinks are as cheap as one could hope for and the bartenders are all friendly assuming you aren't a pompous a$$.
The lovely picture of the outdoor back area probably shouldn't be up here unless you plan on going during the day because it's ALWAYS closed at night.
Love eternal to the Behan's crowd and staff.
PS - CASH ONLY but they do have an ATM
PPS - The "Wild Eyed" Glenn Close is purported witch, stay away from her or she will cast an evil spell upon you.
ABSOLUTELY a great place! I have been coming here for over 4 years now, and I will never stop! I love this place. Great bartenders, friendly people, nice mixture of locals, and very cheap!!!!! Plus, you even get people from other zones in the world because of the airport being so close!
(Caution!!!! There is a regular that stops in here quite often, and she is a maniac! Talk to her if you want a real fun story to tell your friends about! Look for the wild-eyed, Glen Close look-alike!)
Love this place!
I'm in this dizzy haze coming out of the Sharks game -- a friend sends me a text right when the Sharks scored 4 points; "You want to meet for a drink in Burlingame at Behan's?" So my lack of common sense might have stemmed from one of these things; (or perhaps all)
1) The Sharks WON! 5-2 .. you go boys!
2) Having my *boy-goggles* on watching men play hockey
3) I'm getting a free pizza at Round Table
4) We're pushing the clocks back an hour
So I take the 40 minute drive up to Burlingame, catch up with a good buddy, have a beer, and enjoy the atmosphere people watching.
Nice pub, good beer, nice patrons. (Hey, how rowdy can Burlingame get, right?)
Total local neighborhood spot. Â If you are going to meet some neighbors, grab a quick beer, or meet friendly people this is the spot for you.
If you are younger, like myself, this spot probably won't be too appealing. Â It is a bit of an older crowd but again still friendly and easy to pick up a convo with others. Â One thing to remember which was a bit disappoint, is CASH ONLY. Â Hit the ATM first.
Horrible. I came with 15 friends and
Nobody was shown any respect. We were treated like children and the old men behind the counter had an attitude problems.  Last call was at 12:45 and we were literally kicked out at  1:15. I will never spend a dollar there ever again. if you are under 50 dont waste your time walking in there because the grumpy old men wont even serve you a drink
I guess the selling point for me is that it's a block away from where I live. Â It's perfect for a few beers or drinks when you're trying to lay low. It's strange, sometimes there's tons of people and sometimes there's only a handful of people. Â They have darts and shuffle board. Â The only downsides are that it's cash only and no happy hour.
Review Source:Last time I went, my friends and I got kicked out b/c some joker kept on talking about how it sucked that I spilled his drink.
He had two women friends with him and I said to him those are some of the ugliest women I have ever seen in my life.
The place is still cool in my book :)
But the location isn't great for stumbling around drunkly in.
This is a decent pub in downtown Burlingame. They have an eclectic juke box. (Yes, I judge a place by their jukebox). The drinks aren't terribly strong or expensive. Â At least my drink didn't seem to strong, although it did make me sleepy. They have a shuffle board (I think that's what it is) there which always makes for fine entertainment. There are also lots of seats. It does have a weird bathroom. It's quite claustrophobic.
Review Source:This may be the best bar in Burlingame.
I've never been in on a Sunday so I can't comment on the Karaoke. But I've been in Behan's 6 or 7 times now and I have yet to go there without being stared down by someone. The place is filled with late 30's / mid 40's bored dudes pissing on their territory, whether they be in ironed button ups or paint spattered 49er's shirts. Â Occasionally a good looking heavily guarded girl is around. The beers cost $5, which makes 3 for $20 with tip.
Two guys actually tried to hustle me and my friend at darts here. They threw all over the board then put up a drink bet and started throwing 8T0 groupings.
There are some redeeming qualities: The ladies I've met behind the bar are always nice. I did have a long interesting conversation with a guy stopping in to drink from Ireland. Â They have shuffle board and the music selection is good if you're into classic rock and Marley. Â Its quite an odd contrast against the backdrop of coffee shops, over priced dinner spots, and nail and wax salons.
The big bonus is they don't have mid-20's rich boy gangster wannabe's which seem to infest the other bars in this town.
I'm sure if I was a local the scene would be different as soon as I got past the posturing.
So if you're looking for a place to get boilermaker wasted drunk and 'accidentally' back your bar stool onto someones foot this is the place. You can be loud here and free and they may 86 you but they'll let you back another day.
Ahhhh my old stomping ground when I lived in the apartments where Behan' was just a walking distance...LOL
-Great Beer
-Dart board but umm watch out when the guys have been drinking already haha!!!
-Live music on Saturdays
-Karaoke on Sundays-TONS of people this night!
-They serve corn beef and cabbage on St. Patricks day with Green Beer!
-Everyone is friendly... or they're jus DRUNK lol
Hey! you might be one of the lucky one's to hear Joel sing the Thong Song by Sisqo (mind you he is a tall white guy) ahhh.. good times! good times!!
*i miss you burlingame*

Behan's can be hit or miss if you're going for the people-watching. Â Some weekend nights you can go at 10 and it's practically empty, other times it's packed. Â There's a HUGE age range - I inevitably end up sitting next to a 65-year-old guy while some frat boys drink their Buds behind me. Â It's cool to see some of the older Burlingame locals, even if I often feel like the youngest person there. Â There's sometimes live music on Saturdays that closes off the dart boards, so beware if you're going for that. Â Never been to Sunday night karaoke, but I've walked by a few times and it sounds...terrible, as good karaoke should.
The drinks aren't cheap, but no more expensive than anywhere else in Bgame (except maybe Village Host). Â This is the closest bar to me, so I'd go even if it sucked, but luckily it doesn't. Â Just go late so you can have a better chance of a good crowd.
I went to Behan's with my cousin on Christmas Eve. Not typically traditional, but I was wide awake at our family's party, which happened to be right down the street. How convienent!
We head over there, and for a good hour or so the place was a bit empty. Ordered a few brew-skis, downed them fairly quickly (in my defense I just wanted to have a reason to exploit my annoying drunk personality), and then suddenly next thing you know the place was packed! Everyone was talking to everyone, Merry Christmas's went around at midnight, hugging and the like. I spent an equal amount of time inside drinking my beers and outside smoking cigarettes I bummed off some wonderful gentlemen. What I'm trying to remark upon is the company of people there. You just gather in a crowd and you're all family. Hell, last night one party ordered a pizza and invited us all to partake in cheesy-jalapeno goodness! It gets crazy. (Not to mention some guy was hitting on me and wanted a kiss at the end of the night, and I pointed to my cheek--he refused as if it was beneath him. My kareoke buddy, whom we had just met that night, went outside and called him a prick! Woooo!) Yeah...crazy.
As far as the other stuff goes...the bartenders are a little hard to get attention, as they have a lot of customers. Hard liqour drinks I've heard are a little expensive, but if I go Irish I go beer so who knows how much they cost. The overall feel of the bar IS as cozy as MaFan D. says it is. They have darts and a fireplace--how much cozier can you get?? Only downside: their bathrooms. The ladies room has one stall, and its about as small as a hollister dressing room (which fits kate moss after shes thrown up).
If you want this kind of atmosphere, and sing what you think your voice might be terrible, terrible kareoke on sunday nights (I'm the girl who sang Date Rape two weeks ago--and they still remember!...in a good way.) then come here. You'll be glad you found the place. It's like a home away from home! (Guess where I'm spending my St. Patty's Day??)
PS: There are some *hawt* Irish lads that come through here, too :)
Great, Irish neighborhood bar along the Broadway strip in Burlingame...visited this bar for the 2nd time this evening and had a good time once again.
Pros: Authentic, towny atmosphere - lots of regulars, seems like the kind of place "where everybody (eventually) knows your name"...fills a void on a quieter strip where there are few bars to choose from...fireplace to warm up by on a rainy night...
Cons: Drinks aren't particularly remarkable...darts and dart boards are worn out, could use a little TLC....
I get the vibe that this may be a family-owned place - would love to know the full story behind it. Â So far, the staff I've seen consists of a middle-aged man and woman and an older gentleman - all with hints of Irish blood/accents - are they a family? Â Did the old man originally found the place? Â Hopefully I will learn some of the answers on future visits - will definitely come again!
A little dark and cave-like, but then, I think it's supposed to be that way. A low-key spot for darts and good, old-fashioned drinking. There's quite an age range among the patrons, which makes for excellent people watching.
A pint of Guinness will run you $4.50 -- and they know how to pour a Guinness well.
I am quite the fan of this spot. We happened upon it after a birthday dinner at Village Host down the street. Very chill atmosphere, nice folks and an awesome juke box.
tonight, it was a bit more crowded but, there was a sweet band called "Hollywood" there that did a cover of Regulators. F-ing SWEET, I say!!
I'm down to go there often now. yay for a new pub to frequent!
