Normally, when I go to a restaurant by myself, I like to go at least twice to make sure I'm getting a fair idea of what they have, and haven't gotten the one awesome/terrible dish. Â But this place is kind of out of the way - I pass it when I'm going to Chicago, but it's rarely at a time when I'm hungry. Â
This time, I was hungry. Â Hadn't had dinner yet. Â And I was kinda craving Mexican food, until I stopped at home and smelled someone cooking. Â Then I wanted diner food. Â So I thought, hey, this place is on the way, I'll just stop there! Â And I did. Â And I went inside and sat down, and ordered a breakfast plate. Â But they were out of sausage gravy! Â They executed this very well, by the way: sincerely apologetic, yet professional. Â So I decided to get the huevos rancheros. Â Did I mention that they also had a lot of Mexican food? Anyways, it was pretty good: the sauce was redolent with roasted tomato flavor, and the beans were fine. Â And then I got to the fried tortilla hiding at the bottom under everything and I was like OHMAHNAR SO CRISPY AND TASTY. Â I'm kinda glad I ended up getting Mexican food anyway.
The coffee was your typical weak inoffensive diner coffee.
So....yeah. Â If the option came up again, I'd probably go back.
