Well, for the most part, I had a good time. I fear this will be another short-lived night club in Peoria (Carbon, Hydrate, J Pree's anyone?). The music was fun, but holy expletive, that dance floor is a law suit waiting to happen. Unless you're a well-versed ice dancer, be prepared to slip and fall on your tail because it's slick. Sober and drunk alike we're slipping and sliding their way to the bar or their next helpless target on the dance floor. The drinks we're good and a fair price. I thought the service was fairly prompt considering how busy it was. The stair case? Clear plexi. Ladies--we're something under your skirt please. My favorite place to hang out was on the mezzanine and balcony area, which was prime people watching area, and a "shot girl" would cruise by occasionally. My forecast for this summer: a young flock of Caterpillar interns on the weekend will be crawling through this place start late May. Take it that for what it's worth.

I went to Berlin tonight.  I'm a dance music enthusiast and an MBA student.  My review considers both the perspective of somebody that wants to dance to good music, and somebody that supports entrepreneurism.

The best quality of Berlin is the staff.  They are friendly and timely; and make room for guests when crossing paths (thank you).  Berlin has a smoking deck as well - great.  It's also clean and sterile inside (although not my preference for a dance music club).

The music played inside Berlin is piss poor.  That is to be expected in Peoria, but I wish it were different.  I understand playing real music risks revenue loss.

I'm not sure if the owners of Berlin are just interested in meeting financial objectives, or if they also wanted to create a unique and real dance club.  If they are interested in creating a different space it wont happen by playing music video's.   It lacks creativity, it screams commercial bullshit, and it attracts people that only want to get wasted.  The dance floor at Berlin is centered below a giant disco ball which requires machinery to rotate.  This anomaly, while playing top 40 music accompanied with the music video sums up the scene at Berlin.

Expecting a real scene to develop in Peoria because of one club would be asinine; but please don't name your club Berlin when what is happening inside is so far removed form the modern dance music mecca.

For a look into a real scene in Berlin:

The very long awaited downtown Peoria club Berlin finally opened it's doors on St. Patty's day! This space has undergone a complete transformation. It is now 2 stories with large balconies containing couches and tables, a back section of VIP seating areas and fireplace and TWO bars! This is one of the items neccessary for a club to stay successful. If people can't get a drink, they are going to leave. It's just that simple and putting in an additional bar is genius. There was no cover on opening day so I can't comment as to whether that will be fair or not but the sound system is amazing, the lighting set-up is really impressive, especially from the second floor and the overall layout with the upper level being open-looking down on the dancefloor is what most Chicago area clubs do. Do people drop drinks? Not if they cost $10. :) The music and DJ seem much improved from it's brother spot Diesel next door. I can forsee this as a place to get some recognizable DJ names, if the owner is willing to pay for that kind of talent.

A couple of things that need work: the women's bathroom stalls are nearly see-thru, with only the faintest of film blocking the person but you can very clearly see every move they make. With the main door from the women's room to the club being open with no actual door, it would only take a guy 3 steps to be in the women's room and in full view of partially clad women. Not the greatest idea I've ever seen. Also, the flooring on the stairs and the entire second level is plexiglass so wearing a skirt with or without panties is an invitation to be checked out. Watch for areas underneath to be packed with pervs in the near future! I hope to see increased bouncers inside and walking around this club since it's larger and has more secluded areas. My hopes are high for this place to keep it's game up as the only other option right now is a once a month club night at Big Als!
