After watching a few reruns of Man vs. Food and hearing him rave about BBQ, I decided to take a road trip for a good, independent BBQ joint. Guided by the reviews on Yelp, I drove to Big Daddy's in Gary. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and fries. Great pork, great sauce (which they also poured on the fries, no ketchup needed!).
They say that if you want to find a good restaurant, eat where the locals gather. Big Daddy's is a Gary landmark in that regard. Well worth the trip. I will be back!
The ribs " woooonderful", they were tender and juicy that they left a lasting flavor in your mouth after you finished. The rib tips another favorite to have,they also left a memorable taste and they came with fries on the bottom which soaked up the flavor of the ribs and sauce..... making my mouth watery again but definetly a place to go for some good down home ribs....
Review Source:We went for the first time on Friday night, and we were very pleased with the quality of the food. We ordered a full rack of baby backs, collard greens and fries. The ribs were excellent...nice smoke ring, tender and moist, not dried out. The sauce used is tasty as well, and they use a judicious hand when applying it. In other words, the food was mopped with nice tangy sauce (reminiscent of a sweet n sour sauce from a chinese restaurant) Â rather than drowning it. The fries were just fries, but good and crisp. The Collard Greens!!! Wow, these were the best I have had outside of my own kitchen.
I am truly pleased to find a restaurant in Northwest Indiana that actually serves GOOD FOOD. Big Daddy's is the ONLY place I will go for barbecue from now on.
I went for the first time on the worst possible day THANKSGIVING, but I must say they handled business like true professionals. They had a line out the door and they were not only kind to me but every customer I saw place an order. Staff was very professional even with all the chaos and commotion going on around them. it only took about 15 mins to get my order and the food superseded my expectations. I couldn't believe how tasty everything was. Â Since then I been a least a few times a month and would recommend this place to anyone who appreciates great food and outstanding customer service.
Review Source:Runaway winner for best barbecue in northwest Indiana. Maybe a notch below Lem's, Uncle Johns, in Chicago, but maybe not even that much below. Â A little hard to find as it is near the end of a large strip mall which is set waaaay back off the street. Tiny and totally basic inside with maybe 5 tables. The sides were unmemorable but that;s typical for a place like this. Family owned shack is a great example of where you should be spending your money at if you are going to eat out.
Review Source:Well there's plenty of good things to say about the place. Â Small business, family owned, grass roots start-up from vending in the parking lot of the flea market. Â The BBQ sauce is very nice and sweet and has pineapple chunks in it. Â The meat is smoked on site, has a nice smoke ring to it and is tasty with out the sauce. Â I enjoy the rib tips/jerk chicken and the spare ribs are very meaty. Â The first ti.me restaurant owners are continuing to grow, learn and master their craft. Â They are usually always busy and sometimes will not get the order correct, which happens anywhere, but they have signs in the place stating to check your order for accuracy before you leave. Â I would say that hopefully in time they can keep the food quality up and the prices fair, but the portions can be inconsistent, and I have heard other patrons complaining to the manager about that issue. Â I continue to let my friends and family know about this little gem in Gary and wish them continued success

Prices were good. Service was great; quick and entertaining. Regarding the store, there is much on the walls and windows about the owners as listed in 'Carmen B's  post. It was very clean, held three flat screens, lots of seating and decor-ed in blue and orange. Even the bathrooms were nice!
Food: For my Rib Tips, I was happy with the large portions and tenderness of meat. Overall, the dish good, but nothing note-worthy. I think I expected more favor to be baked into the meat, which would have made the dish one of the best rib tip dinner I have tasted. I will order them again. One suggestion for improvement would be placing the bread at the bottom of a dish, then meat, then fries. Because this order was reversed, (fries placed at the bottom of the meat) Â the fries were mushy due to the sauce and hard to enjoy. I enjoyed the great banana pudding! WOW! My sister commented that cream cheese makes the difference in dish from others we have sampled.
I will go again and try more dishes from Big Daddy's BBQ, especially more of the side items. For now, I have to tell my daddy that this place is just "OK".

I have not eaten much BBQ in my day mainly because not much access to them. Â And I will not go to a Franchise. Â This place is a little hidden away but worth the trip. And reasonable prices.
Ordered the Beef Brisket Sandwich. Â Meat was tender and juicy. Â When I seen the Big Guy take a piece of meat out of the Smoker and Chop it up, I knew it was gonna be good. Â The fries that came with it had a little BBQ sauce over it that really made them taste great.
Also had the Collard Greens. Â These were not shredded like from a can. Â They were hand cut. Â Tasted great.
Big Bright dinning area was nice and clean, just a little under heated. Â So many things I want to go back and try. Â Hopefully soon.
Big Daddy's BBQ is top notch BBQ! I am officially hooked. I'm glad it's in Gary,IN. because if it was close to where I live I'd be in there way too often! I've been there 2 times now,and each time the meat is well done,and VERY tender. I had rib tips and links combo each time. The sides....the sides are wonderful!! I've had the greens and potato salad. They were very well prepared, tasted great, AND served in a way that makes you enjoy the fact that you visited the establishment..The staff is friendly and has always been precise with my orders. I WILL be back again and I have been telling my friends about Big Daddy's BBQ in Gary,IN.

Â Â The pulled pork had such a great smoke flavor. Â Although when you walk in the door and the smell hits you, you already know you are in for good bbq.
