Went on a Saturday night, not very busy. Â Very slow service and had to retrieve our own drinks from the bar. Â Food was slow to come out and the burgers were burned. No manager on staff to discuss. Â Also noticed most of the good servers are no longer there. Â Server was trying to explain to no end that the problem was not her, very unprofessional. Â Still left better than 20%. Â This was my last time there.
Review Source:My dad and I had the meatloaf dinner tonight. Horrible!!!! Complained about how it tastes and the manager said "it's on the menu that it has Italian sausage in it" .... Bull crap it's not on the menu ... And wasn't told. Not the savory homemade meal I was looking for. Happy Father's Day dad!
Review Source:We came here on a Tuesday night because I read that kids eat free those nights. Â As it's near our neighborhood, I also felt inclined to support them. Â What a appointment. Â
We showed up at 6pm after picking our two young daughters up from day care only to be told that they were only serving appetizers because they were closing at 7pm.  ????  Apparently, they were having their holiday party for staff that night and were turning people away at the door practically.  There was no note on the big sign by the door or on the large board outside.  Nice.  As it was late and we needed to eat, we decided to stay when I saw the chalkboard said "Kids Eat Free".  When I inquired about whether or not the restaurant was going to honor that statement still, the hostess rolled her eyes and called for the Manager.  I kid you not, folks, Brandon the Manager actually said "what do you want?" when he came to us.  Really?? That's how you address your customers?  So, this guy rolls his eyes (what's with the eye-rolling in this place??!!) and in the most surly way possible, said "yeah, whatever" when I asked him if we were going to get the kids free meals.  It was as if we were a major pain in his butt.  Had it not been for the time, we would have left.  So, we get past this and order from a really nice, apologetic  waitress.  Their beer choices suck (Surly BEER, not surly managers people!!) and my husband had to send back his Summit as the tap wasn't clean.  The mini cord dogs for the kids were ok, but their sliders were horrible.  Neither of the girls, who normally love burgers, would touch them after one try.  We tried them and they were so hard and dry we could barely swallow after a bite.  How can you mess up a slider?  My husband and I shared the quesadillas and lettuce wraps.  While the 'dillas were actually pretty good, we ended up picking the chicken out of the Chung King-like concoction they made.  The sauce, crispy noodles, and other unidentifiable items in the bowl were over salted, slimy, and were unmanageable in the wrap.
So, needless to say, we won't be coming here again. Â We eat out a lot with our girls. Â My husband and I love food and supporting our neighborhood establishments. Â However, I will not (and shouldn't have to) put up with downright nasty attitudes and poor customer service, not to mention crappy food. Â I want to teach my girls the value and pleasures of eating out and trying new things. Â This experience taught them that people can be jerks and that it's not always worthwhile to be the bigger person and let it go, as their food turned out to be downright inedible.
Big Louie's on a Friday night = not as busy, at all, as I was expecting! Â I didn't really know what to expect coming here. Â From the outside, it looks totally divey, which is totally my thing, but this is really the only bar that I know of, other than SAV pub down the road, that is in this little area. Â However, I don't venture to New Brighton very much. Â That being said, I thought on a friday night Louie's would be packed and packed with blue collar men staring at us wondering why were were even there to begin with. Â We strolled in to meet my friends man around 9:40pm, and while there weren't any seats that were in a row for 4 of us to sit at the bar, we grabbed a table right next to it. Â The inside was much nicer than I ever thought it would be: nice wooden tables and high chairs, a patio out the back, wooden bar that was in a loop shape in the middle, and very nice bathrooms in the front. Â I was slightly impressed for being sorta nervous to venture here.
As soon as we were sitting, Britta, the server/bartender was right there to get our drink orders. Â She was really sweet, funny, and attentive. Â She obviously left a lasting impression on me because we went a few weeks ago but I can still remember her name after the stupor she helped put us in! Â The drinks were cheap and strong, and they also had apps on for happy hour, I believe. Â I didn't order food though. Â After a couple hours and Britta had to go, she let us settle up with her first so I could tip her out. Â The gal that was just bartending took over, and she was on her game as well. Â I spoke to one of the managers right before bar close, and told her she has some good employees working for her! Â I was also impressed that the manager was working the floor and actually supervising the place, even though it wasn't rowdy and nothing really was happening. Â Kudos for her for staying until bar close on a Friday night! Â
Big Louie's overall left me wanting to come back for more! Â They had a couple games in the corner (SKEEBALL!) and a pulltab counter, and the atmosphere wasn't at all weird like I thought it could be.
OH! I did want to mention that we asked for a lemon drop shot, and while they came quickly and were large ones, they were absolutely horrendous. Â Just bad. Â Everything else was good though :)
Big Louie's is a great place to go with a big group of people, especially on a weekend. It seems like something is always going at this place and it has always been a blast when I have gone.
The food here, especially the burgers and sandwiches, is very good. The service is a hit or miss sometimes you will get a great waitress, other times they will be cranky and a bit rude.
But in general this is a great restaurant.
All burgers are $5.99 on Mondays. Hello Big Louie burger! Free popcorn!
Now that I have your attention, I first started going Big Louie's in Crystal, and I love that you can play Buzztime Trivia there. The New Brighton location is close to my work, so I'm always going with coworkers and can't play trivia because I actually have to listen to them talk about work.
Good food, friendly staff, and decent prices make me give Big Louie's five stars. Â And as I started out this review, there are great deals to get you to come here instead of going to McDonald's next door.
This place reminds me of Cheers! they always have something going on and the staff is always awesome. Not only that, the food is really, really good! C'mon they have a Peanut Butter Hamburger and I would have never thought but it was super tasty. The happy hour specials are also very good. Shout out to Becky Perkins for being the best damn bartender around!
Review Source:$3 Corona beer on Cinco de Mayo. For lunch.
I had a cobb salad, which was decent. I'm surprised  by how many places can't make a cobb salad to save their life. It's so easy!
This place is just a typical bar, no room for big tables. A lot of Twins fans come here also. I wanted to come for the meat raffle, but alas it was the wrong day.
I've been here a couple times now and the more I go the more I like it. I was impressed by their larger menu. Also when you walk into the doors, it is a sports bar heaven with TVs all over the place. The only downside I've seen is most of them are showing the same game.
The first time I was here I ate the Canadian Walleye and that was a large piece of fish! I ended up taking half of it home with me.
I usually judge sports bars based on their nachos. I look at their price, stacking of the chips and sides. Compared to some places I've gone they give you the most options for the nachos. Also I've found that they are usually $1 less then other places. Definitely a good deal.
This place used to be called Jake's--now called "Big Louies".  The menu has improved by a landslide!  They have a Skippy Burger  (with Peanut Butter!) and an amazing Cuban Sandwich.  And if you like steak-fries, you'll LOVE their steak-fries.  Big, thick, potatoey goodness.  They always come out HOT.  So hot you have to eat part of your sandwich and come back to them.  Mmm, Carbs. Â
My dining companion is obsessed with the wings here. Â They didn't change them from when the place was Jake's...and that's a good thing. Â They are traditional buffalo sauce, or you can order them Nuclear style if you are brave. Â HOT. Â
Big Louie, thanks for saving the closest restaurant to my house and  making it somewhere I actually want to go!  My roommate and I are regulars here, but that hasn't had an effect on the service at all. Â
PS: Â They have the build-your-own Bloody Mary Bar on Sundays. Â It is
AMAZINGl because they have a million different hot sauces to try, horseradish, Clamato, and really really delicious pickles. Â Many places have laughable bloody mary / caesar bars. Â Â
Big Louie's has bingo night, karaoke nights and a meat raffle, too, if you're into those sort of things.
