My co workers and I went here for lunch. In the beginning, we were a little skeptical about trying this place, but the food was pretty good. Menu has a wide variety of food options. Portions sizes are big, most all meals come with soups. The soup is hot and pretty good tasting. Be sure to ask for bread instead of crackers. Â However, the fish sandwich with grilled onions was up to par and tasted good.
One of my co workers mentioned the philly cheesesteak was a little too greasy and the pork tendorloin was unexpectedly deep fried.
Service is fast and people are nice, can't ask for more from a restaurant in a little town in Zion.
This is NOT the Bill's Custard Cafe that we ate at 5 years ago when Jeff had his 30th Zion-Benton High School reunion. Nevertheless, it was certainly an interesting experience. The ambience was something out of the Twilight Zone. There was a toothless old woman totally gumming her food and a big mama that Robert Crumb would have really dug. Her caboose was so massive that Crumb and his wife could have both hopped on for a ride. She was bellowing at her whipped little hubby and her sniveling child. Although the place was nearly empty - these folks had to sit right behind us. She was obviously quite hungry because she kept ordering more food without getting up and going to the counter.
The food is plentiful and freshly prepared, but also incredibly fattening and dense. We both felt a bit sick after eating rib tips slathered in barbecue sauce, cole slaw, and soup. Skip the fountain drinks and get a 12-ounce can of soda for just 75 cents - a better deal. Ask for bread instead of crackers with the soup. On the bright side, the Mexican owner is an outgoing, friendly guy who goes out of his way to please his customers.
Girls from work took me here for lunch one day. They LOVE this place. Â It's pretty awesome -- a variety of foods from mexican to burgers to comfort foods to... yeah. Â There's a good deal. Â And SOUP. Â Soup comes with everything! Â And I was told, ask for bread not crackers.
A little guide if you're a newb like me -- order your food, choose your soup and drink. Â They'll hand you that, take your seat and then they'll bring your food to you. Â So it's this crazy combination of fast food and sit down.
Every thing is in styrofoam and you pick up plastic utensils. Â Meh. Â Food's good though. Â We'll be back. Â (bonus for being cheap!)
