Blue Lagoon Cocktail Lounge

Great drink specials. However when I ordered 2 redheaded sluts (listed on their website under "all day everyday" specials for $3 each) the bartender didn't know how to make it denied that it was on their specials menu and charged me $14.  there  was  maybe a  dozen  people  in  the  bar  on a Sat  night at 10:30  and  we  had  to  pay $5  cover, seems silly.

I've been meaning to write a review of this place for a while.  I find the Blue to be among the best choices for a night out.  The bar is cheap and the bartenders fast.  They have billiards and old movies playing at the bar, so a cool place to kick back.

But, let's be honest, the main reason we all go there is for the shows.  The Blue is able to get an impressive number of shows, showing an admirable dedication to bringing in both touring bands and supporting the local scene here in Santa Cruz.  What is also cool is that it has a very intimate feel as the performance room is pretty small.  Also, unlike so many other places, you can sing with the band, stage dive, just in general have a good time.  The also typically have the second large room with dance music, so if you have a date not into the show, you don't even have to leave the venue.

Overall, minimal decor, minimal prices, and maximum enjoyment.

We decided to come to this bar to celebrate our friend's 21st birthday bar crawl. I personally have never been here but a friend had suggested it so we went. You walk inside and it's a pretty dark atmosphere. Like rocker meets punk meets goth inside. There is a main bar area, a room with pool tables and then two gigantic dance floors in the back. I never knew this place had so much real estate to work with. If they had a different vibe and played music they could have a venue way more popular than Motiv easily.  However it's not that type of place so I'm not sure what the dance floors were used for. There's potential tho. They have a specialty cocktail for each day so we showed up on Kamikaze day and got some of those. Four drinks for about $15 which is a great deal so I am a fan of that and it was a pretty decently made drink at that. Overall an interesting place to come and have a drink. We didn't stay long but from our experience it was pleasant with no hiccups.
