I went there for the second time and would only recommend it if you're not a wine drinker... they have a terribly small wine list (i.e. Gascon Malbec, Sterling Merlot and a couple of other crappy whites). Â I am a wine drinker and haven't had Merlot in years as it's not really my cut of tea, but with the small selection (Gascon Malbec tastes weak to me) I asked for a small taste of the Merlot. Â The waitress came back and told me because it's such a cheap glass of wine at $9 or $12 bucks per glass (don't recall how much), the bartender said I could not have a taste. Â What bartender does that?? Â I went ahead and ordered it anyway, and surely enough it was crap. Â I didn't drink it at all, and ordered the other crappy Gascon Malbec. Â
Annoying... I won't be back.
What a great spot for a before or after dinner drink - especially if dinner is at Hamilton's Grill Room.
Reminded us of a small bar we frequented when living in Avon lake, Ohio, called Close Quarters - but more upscale. The decorating theme is definitely nautical and the bar only seats 5 or 6 patrons. We just happened to walk in at the right time and found 4 empty stools.
As indicated in other reviews, this place is quite special and, thankfully, off the beaten path. I am looking forward to enjoying a glass of wine on the patio when the weather turns warmer. I didn't go upstairs but my brother-in-law did and echoed the positive comments in other reviews. Good prices and good wine pours along with conversation with the bartender as he made drinks was a great.
It was nice to just sit there at the bar and not have 3 or 4 TVs in your face. Conversation - what a nice concept!
Went to the Boat House based off of several recommendations from locals living in Lambertville. This place has tons of character and history. It's not a youthful crowd but a great place to go and kick back without a ton of noise. Prices were fair and worth making this a regular stop for a drink when in town.
Review Source:Off the beaten path in a touristy town and I hope it stays that way. Â A memorable romantic evening is having drinks here and then going to the Hamilton Grill and dining.
This place is special and I hope it never changes. Â I've been to this place a couple of times and I can't wait to go back. Â The service is great and the atmosphere is quaint and cozy. Â
If you're a tourist and reading this review you'd be sorry if you didn't go and I'd be sorry if too many of you showed up. Â Come in moderation and that's it.
The Boat House was a total let down. We read such great reviews about it that we decided to stop there first before heading to Hamilton's Grill Room (which was quite good btw) as many on here have suggested to do. The Boat House is very small and every seat was taken. My wife went in to ask if we could grab a beer and just stand behind the bar but the extremely rude and arrogant hostess told us "no way" and that we couldn't stand inside and wait for something to open up. We were so taken aback that we didn't bother to wait around and left just as fast as we had come in.
It completely lacked any of the postive vibes that others are sharing on this site. We were both mad about the experience, even after dinner and as we walked past it on the way back to the car. Maybe the beers are good and the bar tender knows his stuff, but we never found out and sure as hell will never go back and give it a second try. Â
Don't waste your time at the Boat House as you will end up as disappointed with it as we were. The hostess was a complete jerk and we will never recommend Boat House to anyone we know, which is too bad for them b/c we along with many of our friends like to try new places in the area, but this will never be one of them.
If I ever owned a bar it would probably resemble a place like The Boat House. Now let me establish that this is not your typical bar... there is no standing around waiting for drinks, no TV, no darts... so you're probably scratching your head right now wondering then what IS so special about this place... well, let me tell you.
When you arrive at The Boat House you are greeted by the hostess who let's you know the availability of seating based on your party size. She kindly takes you in or let's you know the wait time. The downstairs room is dimly lit and sectioned off into intimate vignettes where close friends and couples engage in private conversations, the occasional roar of laughter ensuing among the din. The walls aren't cluttered per se, but artfully arranged with nautical-themed antiques ranging from old wooden ship models to beautiful paintings of oarsman rowing.
We were sat upstairs, and walking up the wood-paneled staircase the decor continues with Ivy League pennants, knickknacks, and brass fittings. We were led to a light blue velvet sofa, the best seat in the house in my opinion-- with a full view of the small upstairs room. Â It was so romantic and everything was just so. Served Snyder's hard pretzels with our drinks was the perfect touch. Our waitress, Christine, was friendly and engaging. We even overheard a nearby patron's conversation and introduced ourselves to chime in, we ended up chatting for a few minutes and swapped restaurant recommendations and tidbits. It was the perfect place to grab drinks, to be with someone special and enjoy a night out in Lambertville. If you're lucky, you may spot Jim, the owner, at the bar downstairs for a quick hug hello.
Looking forward to going back.
The Boat House is great. Â I tend to end nights here and bring friends or family who are visiting. Â Its a great small setting which means it can be crowded but I think the ambience is well worth that. Â Waitstaff is always entertaining and cocktails overflowing. Â It can be hard to find if you are not sure where you are going (I know GoogleMaps had it in the wrong location for a long time), just look for the alley on Coryell Street off North Union with "the Porkyard" sign.
Review Source:Lambertville is full of places that make you feel you discovered them and that few others know of them, hahaha, right! Â Spoken like a true out-of-towner.
We saw people purposefully going down a dirt path by the canal that seemed to go nowhere and decided to follow them. Â There we found a shady oasis which is the Boat House across from the Hamilton restaurant. Â I am not sure whether the two are related or just adjacent. Â
We sat outside and watched the activity blissfully and made notes to come back. Â Adults of all ages appeared to be enjoying martinis and fancy cocktails more than you usually see on a warm day. Â
The Boathouse is a tiny, amazingly cool bar inside, more vertical than horizontal, the nautical theme already well-described by other writers here. Â
Fall is coming, hallelujah. Can't wait to come back.
This is a great spot, slightly out of the way (unless you're going to Hamilton's Grill) and fun for before or after-dinner drinks. Its popularity continues to grow so it is often crowded and not always with locals, but the atmosphere is great and that mostly makes up it. Most importantly, the drinks are ALWAYS delicious -- real cocktails made with good quality ingredients.
Review Source:Going to a five star rating was easy here for several reasons, first and foremost the bar keeper is a professional, not a student on a part time job, they know their mixology and are always friendly and quick to serve. Â It's cozy & comfortable, especially inside. Â The Boat House does not serve food, so there's nothing to review there (going next door to Hamilton's Grill Room is highly recommended). Â The nautical art and details all over the walls are pretty interesting too. Â Â Outdoors is also nice, and has a beer garden feel to it. Â Â Speaking of beer, they always have a list of 3-4 unique brews, recently we drank the Allagash White - perfect on a hot summer day.
Review Source:Have alwas enjoyed a cocktail here when in town. Showed up today to receive a less than welcome greeting from the snotty bartendress who informs up that SHE could not offer us seating as they were being left open for the private party across the drive. Â I would have expected better better treatment as a complete stranger much less a regular client. Sadly this will end my many years visiting this establishment.
Review Source:This is THE place to bring friends from out of town if you want to impress them with the local charm and history. Â The walls are filled with nautical history from original Titanic posters to ship models and oars hanging from the ceilings. Â Very small and intimate with a friendly staff and a great vibe. Â
If you have any trouble finding it, like we did the first time, don't give up. Â Just keep asking people where it is until you get there. Â It's worth the effort!
I love to go here for drinks with friends. It's an intimate, out of the way, hidden gem of Lambertville. Many people go there, but there are a lot of locals and because it's off the beaten path, many of the more annoying tourist types don't see it.
The only bad part is that the bathroom, which is upstairs always smells really strongly of urine.
We've only gone there for drinks before eating across the alley. The Boat House is an absolute treat. It has a small bar and a few tables downstairs and a few tables upstairs. It is just such a pleasant experience to have drinks there. There is all kinds of stuff on the walls and ceiling. It is set basically on a nautical theme, but the trinkets hanging all over the place could be just about anything. you can spend an hour just looking at everything.
The Boat House is a real five star experience.
Boat House... I wish you stayed open just a little bit later so I could enjoy your embrace for just a little longer. Perhaps the early closing time adds to your charm but I just can't give that 5th star because I'm never ready to leave when you kick me out.
A wonderful friend introduced me to this establishment and it's one of our favorite places to go when we make the trek out this way. It's a wonderful place to relax and absorb the atmosphere while having a pleasant conversation.
The Boat House is something you might walk by and never notice its a bar. Â It is hard to find if you are not familiar with the area. Â It is a tiny little house across from the Hamilton Grill. Â My girlfriend and I can be drink snobs. Â No, not rich and pompous. Â Actually, more of a poor, young recession hit hard and I need a real drink snob. Â This place does just that. Â They know their drinks, they poor them strong and they are big for the price. Â Try the Gimlet straight up, or their Side Car, which they use Hennessey instead of ordinary Brandy. Â The place is small but there is a cozy upstairs too. Â Come early and grab a seat upstairs and marvel at all the boat memorabilia hanging everywhere. Â It truly feels like you are in a "Boat House".
Review Source:First: Â It would be 5 stars if it wasn't so well known that it is often too crowded.
More importantly, the bartender is a REAL bartender. Â This is my favorite bar, bar none. Â It is also where I met my wife.
The location across the yard from Hamilton's Grill Room makes for an enjoyable pre-dinner cocktail hour, and the bar's yachting decor is an interesting conversation piece.
Very cool, hard to find, drink stop, down a side street in Lambertville, NJ. Â Interesting furnishings. Â Walls covered with cool stuff. Â Great drinks and great staff. Â Perfect place to start the night before a great dinner in Lambertville or across the river somewhere in Buck County.
Review Source:This place is very, very cool.
It used to be a little more of a local's spot- someone had to tell you where it was located (down coryell st, then down an alley at "the porkyard"). Now there are more tourists. However, the "no standing" rule is still enforced- there is plenty of seating for their usual crowd at the bar, upstairs, outside for the smokers. The wait staff is attentive, the bartender- Christian- is very knowledgeable and an interesting guy to boot. The bar is well stocked.
Best part- the atmosphere. Every inch of the place is covered in boating memorabilia, from model ships and rowing trophies to the stuffed parrot over the bar, and paintings from floor to ceiling- even ON the ceiling. Try to sit in a different corner each time you go, just to check out what's on the wall near you. The music is quiet and appropriate, but if you live in town and go often you'll notice the same CDs over and over.
Worst part- almost no parking. they share like 4 parking spots with Hamilton Grille Room, which are always full. Depending on the day or season, the streets may be stuffed with cars. The town is small though, the farthest you could possibly have to walk is not that far.
My favorite bar in Lambertville/New Hope... when there's no chance of getting the munchies.
This place is wonderful. So comfortable, like being in a good host's home. The woman that runs this place does not hesitate to share with you fresh wild strawberries at the bar if they're in season. Everyone who works here truly cares about the history of the house and their drinks are delicious.
I'm excited to visit and get cozied up here in the winter.
This was the one place I used to be able to go to escape all the gold chained and hair sprayed New Yorkers that swarm the New Hope area... Thanks to its recent plug in Philadelphia mag there is an alarming influx  of "fluffy",  middle aged, over-bearing, hooligans who insist on speaking as loudly as possible.  Even taking the fore mentioned into consideration this is easily one of my fav NH Lambertville spots!
