Quaint with quality.
This business is easy to miss when driving through the small village of Sergeantsville, but a must stop for a quality meal. Â The business has two menus a tavern and a dining room menu. Depending on where you choose to sit, you can order from one menu or the other. Â If you'd like to look at both, sit in the informal library room that is located between the bar and dining room. Â For a more formal dining experience, be sure to choose the dining room, which has tablecloths and cloth napkins.
The dinner menu here is very interesting with plenty of meats that you typically don't see in many other locations: venison, boar, buffalo, kangaroo, kobe, to name a few. If you sample the lunch menu, they offer a variety of meats such as antelope, kobe, boar and llama. This exotic variety of meats keeps the menus very interesting. Â The menu is 100% natural, free range or wild.
Aside from the food selection, you'll find an incredible cocktail menu here. Â "The Absolut Mess," one of their signature cocktails, combines different flavors of Absolut Vodka to make a modestly tart and strong cocktail. Â A positive of ordering a cocktail is that they will bring the shaker to your table, keeping the drink colder and allowing you to get a little extra than your glass can hold. Â They have a solid draft selection of beers with a mix of macro & micro brews and a selection of bottled microbrews. Â They also offer a variety of wines to enjoy with dinner.
For appetizers we had the carpaccio and pheasant spring roll, both were prepared nicely and were loaded with an array of excellent compliment of flavors. Â For dinner we had the australian lamb shank and kangaroo. The lamb shank was perfectly cooked and flavorful, the couscous primavera compliments the flavor of the dish perfectly. Â The kangaroo was an interesting new meat for my pallet, the meat is more bold than your typical steak and a lean filet type cut of meat. Â Due to the leanness of the steak, you shouldn't have it cooked past medium for the best experience.
The service was a downside, with infrequent visits to our table and very few refills. Our server did stop by soon after serving our entrees to check the quality, but was almost absent otherwise. Â One factor may be that we chose to sit in the library, which was out of the way from the typical dining areas of the restaurant.
If you're looking for a selection of exotic fare and a celebration of flavor, look no further you can find it at the Sergeantsville inn.
Great place for an amazing fine dining experience. As others have said the building takes you back to a much earlier time but is warm and cozy with the numerous fireplaces. The food and drinks were outstanding. Service was top notch. Alittle busy and crowded but that is to be expected at an outstanding resteraunt. Next time you are in the area (or up for a drive) and looking for fine dining, give this place a shot. You will not be disappointed!!
