Quaint with quality.
This business is easy to miss when driving through the small village of Sergeantsville, but a must stop for a quality meal. Â The business has two menus a tavern and a dining room menu. Depending on where you choose to sit, you can order from one menu or the other. Â If you'd like to look at both, sit in the informal library room that is located between the bar and dining room. Â For a more formal dining experience, be sure to choose the dining room, which has tablecloths and cloth napkins.
The dinner menu here is very interesting with plenty of meats that you typically don't see in many other locations: venison, boar, buffalo, kangaroo, kobe, to name a few. If you sample the lunch menu, they offer a variety of meats such as antelope, kobe, boar and llama. This exotic variety of meats keeps the menus very interesting. Â The menu is 100% natural, free range or wild.
Aside from the food selection, you'll find an incredible cocktail menu here. Â "The Absolut Mess," one of their signature cocktails, combines different flavors of Absolut Vodka to make a modestly tart and strong cocktail. Â A positive of ordering a cocktail is that they will bring the shaker to your table, keeping the drink colder and allowing you to get a little extra than your glass can hold. Â They have a solid draft selection of beers with a mix of macro & micro brews and a selection of bottled microbrews. Â They also offer a variety of wines to enjoy with dinner.
For appetizers we had the carpaccio and pheasant spring roll, both were prepared nicely and were loaded with an array of excellent compliment of flavors. Â For dinner we had the australian lamb shank and kangaroo. The lamb shank was perfectly cooked and flavorful, the couscous primavera compliments the flavor of the dish perfectly. Â The kangaroo was an interesting new meat for my pallet, the meat is more bold than your typical steak and a lean filet type cut of meat. Â Due to the leanness of the steak, you shouldn't have it cooked past medium for the best experience.
The service was a downside, with infrequent visits to our table and very few refills. Our server did stop by soon after serving our entrees to check the quality, but was almost absent otherwise. Â One factor may be that we chose to sit in the library, which was out of the way from the typical dining areas of the restaurant.
If you're looking for a selection of exotic fare and a celebration of flavor, look no further you can find it at the Sergeantsville inn.
Great place for an amazing fine dining experience. As others have said the building takes you back to a much earlier time but is warm and cozy with the numerous fireplaces. The food and drinks were outstanding. Service was top notch. Alittle busy and crowded but that is to be expected at an outstanding resteraunt. Next time you are in the area (or up for a drive) and looking for fine dining, give this place a shot. You will not be disappointed!!
Review Source:Great place. The dining room is excellent for a date or special occasion, and they serve the best risotto and tomato bisque I've ever had. For a more casual meal, definitely eat in the tavern, which also boasts a huge variety, including pasta dishes, seafood, and burgers (including a wild boar and llama burger! Cool) small but good microbrew selection and the service can't be beaten.
Review Source:This place was absolutely amazing! i got a berry martini (best i ever had) and i got this salmon that was to die for, with an amazing asparagus side (big juicy asparagus) and they customoized everything for me just the way i wanted. Â only disappointment was the dessert menu was brief and nothng chocolately. Â it is expensive though. Â it's a really cool old building with lots of awesome rooms and fireplaces, great place to go in the winter :)
Review Source:Another one of my favorite places! My husband & I have had some nice romantic dinners there, by the fireplace, of course!
It's also a great place to stop and have lunch in the tavern area on a Saturday or Sunday.
Great American food and sometimes there are other interesting additions to the menu like Ostrich, Wild boar, Bison & Venison.
My wife and I have been having intimate dinners 2 or 3 times a year here for at least the past 5 years and have never had a less then wonderful experience.
The cuisine is high end with always interesting and unique with a selection of wild game, steaks, seafood, etc. The wine list is extensive. Â We usually drink martinis though, just be forewarned they have finicky pourers, let the waitress pour for you! Â Their soups, especially the lobster bisque are quite good.
On our last visit, we have the pheasant spring rolls and they were heavenly!
Desserts are also a treat. Tiramasu is always excellent.
Finally, the ambiance is hard to match in smallish rooms with warm fireplace and stone walls and subtle truly historic country inn. The waist staff is always professional and knowledgeable but not pretentious
A full 3 course dinner for two will set you back at least $100 before drinks, but you will never regret it!
We stopped by for a light snack on a Saturday afternoon after driving past for many years. My wife and I expected to grab a bite in the bar but the dining room with wood burning fireplace was too inviting.
The menu is very expansive with pheasant, boar, venison as well as salads, Â a pizza special, sandwiches and much more. Something for everyone.
Everything coming out of the kitchen looked fabulous making the choice much more difficult.
We elected to stick to appetizers including  the exceptional tomato bisque that we had heard about, chipotle honey bbq sauce ribs, tuna tartare with tomatoes, rice and seaweed, and duck confit salad. Every dish was delicious, good presentation and plentiful helpings.
Service was leisurely but accommodating.
We didn't have room for dessert but we will certainly return.
Our son recently married and moved to New Hope. Â This makes it convenient to meet with them for dinner often. Â We began to explore restaurants to find a favorite. Â MANSION INN: HORRIBLE. Â Washington Crossing Inn excellent. Â Stockton Inn excellent. Â Sergeantsville Inn excellent also. Â We soon elected it as our personal favorite, enjoy eating in the library. Â Variety of food: Â lamb our Son's favorite, while our daughter in law loves the crab cakes. Â We enjoy a variety of the items. Â All well prepared and presented. Â Tomato soup outstanding. Â Coffee may need some revision, however. Â All in all pleasant for family chatting, music soothing but not overriding. Â A great place for family.
Review Source:When my husband and Iived in Furlong - we would go to the Inn at least once a month. Â The tavern is where we generally would go, but we did have dinner in the fine dining area.
Tavern food menu is awesome, and my all time favorite is the Tomato Bisque - you can't go to this eatery and not have some of this wonderful soup. Â The steak salad is wonderful, as well as their home made desserts. Â They have a great selection of food, so even the pickiest eater will find something they like. Â The inn is so very quaint, and as one of the other reviewers mentioned, on a cold nice, it's such a cozy place to sit with friends and share a glass of wine or have a martini. Â Actually they make an awesome martini too.
When you walk in, and give your name, you notice a huge barrel along the stone wall - and it's got all the corks from the bottles they've opened. Â If you walk down a few steps you'll see their wine cellar - pretty neat since it dates back to the 1700's.
First let me say that I agree 95% with Ed's review. Â However not with his sense of direction :) Â The Inn is on the NorthWest corner of the intersection. Â There is a good sized parking lot across the street on the SouthWest side. Great place to visit after some shopping in Flemington.
My wife and I really like this restaurant. Â Menu is extensive and the food is uniformly good. Â Good wine list. Â Gracious service. Â You pay a bit for the experience which can easily run $50 per person. Â Not bad, but slightly out of my normal price range. We go there for special occasions such as Thanksgiving dinner or during the holidays - nice time to sit near the fireplace.
This restaurant is located within an old stone building that dates back to 1736 (according to a glass plaque that is visible from outside). Â There are several small dining rooms and a tavern. Â We had dinner in a small dining room with stone walls and a fireplace with a REAL WOOD fire in it (none of this gas flames heating ceramic fake logs nonsense). Â Very cozy; a nice place to go on a cold winter's night. Â You can read about the history of the building on their website.
The food and the service were good (high-end but not pretentious). Â They had a menu with a large variety of items. Â The wine list had a large selection of wines over a broad price range and from many different areas. Â Try their flourless chocolate tort for dessert; it's very rich and a single serving can easily satisfy two people (hope they don't read this and make their portions smaller). Â Our four-course a la carte dinner for two (including a bottle of inexpensive wine but with a shared dessert) Â came to about $100 (not incl. tip).
Since Yelp frequently gets locations wrong on their maps, I should mention that the inn is located at the southwest corner of the intersection of Sergeantsville Rd. and the Rosemont-Ringoes Rd. (easy to identify by a four-way flashing red traffic light). Â They have a small parking lot just to the west of the building.
