Outstanding food, great service and fun place to eat.
We ordered a random assortment of entrees and breads, and asked that everything cater to a vegan diet. I cannot remember the names of the individual dishes, one was eggplant based, another chickpeas and the third was cauliflower. I have no complaints on any of it, excellent spice level and full of flavor.
Can't wait to go back! Cheers!
These guys are serious about their spice. Level 7 (out of ten) is a little too much for me which isn't usually the case. I like a pleasant surprise like that and was ready to fall for Bombay right there. But...
This is a nicer/dressier restaurant, but I don't know if the food is deserving of the atmosphere and decor...This review, for now, is only based on the one experience I had but to be fair I did try two dishes: the Tikka Masala and the Vindaloo. The chicken in both dishes just tasted slightly off. The prices matched the ambiance and most entrees were in the $12-$16 range which would be fine if the quality followed suit, but not the case for this first experience here.
The delicious meal I ate here gets a couple stars knocked off for the following reasons:
1. I ate here alone. When I asked if it was OK to eat alone (why I even asked that is beyond me), the owner said "I can sit and entertain you if you'd like!" and wiggled his eyebrows. As they say in the vernacular, it was totes awks.
2. My paneer tikka masala cost $14. Nothing on the menu cost less than this. How is it feasible to charge this much for casual Indian in a Kentucky college town?! That's expensive for DC! Even naan was $3.
3. General lack of beverage attention to detail. I ordered, but never received, a Diet Coke, and no amount of pleading eye contact could attract the server's attention when my water glass was empty.
All of that said, though, it was a damn good Indian meal.
Um, gross. Â Ordered chicken tikka masala, gobi manchurian, and garlic naan for dinner takeout. Â The tikka masala tasted and looked like tomato soup from a can. Â The gobi manchurian was greasy, but tasted fine I guess despite the fact is was burnt in places. Â Oh and it cost nearly $40.
Review Source:Absolutely wonderful food. Some of the best Indian food we have ever eaten (and we love Indian food!!). The spice was perfect, the service was friendly, the food was delicious and flavorful with perfect portion sizes. Full bar, which was great- we tried one of their specialty drinks that was recommended by the staff which was great. The atmosphere was very cool, and felt quite authentic.
We wish we were there right now!! :)
Visiting from a big city with lots of good Indian food so I have a good bar to judge from. This was VERY good, highly recommended to anyone looking for great traditional well made Indian food. The couple that runs it have a clean friendly place with great atmosphere, great find when in a small town that has, good, but few choices outside of traditional American  cuisine.
Review Source:This was an excellent choice. The service was friendly and very helpful. The food was quick and the best Indian food I have had. The staff was great about providing a recommendation based on my request. Definitely recommend this restaurant. The price for the quality of food is a good bargain. The decor was romantic and is true experience.
Review Source:Had dinner here tonight (I guess last night) and it was fantastic.
The service was great. We never wanted or needed for anything. They were so quick too, I didn't even notice them refilling my water glass, but it never emptied!
We ordered the lamb rogan josh and the chicken tikka masala, and both were amazing. The sauces were creamy and not too thin and the meat was excellently tender and juicy. The basmati was perfection and the naan was simple and tasty and effective. Overall, I would certainly go back and try more dishes.
Highly recommended.
I have eaten here twice now. Â The first time, I was very impressed with my chicken tikka masala. Â The sauce was excellent and I enjoyed the garlic naan. Â This was a few months ago, sometime in 2009.
My most recent visit about a week ago (in April 2010) left me very disappointed. Â I got the chicken mango thinking it would be akin to Masala's chicken patia. Â Alas, it was not. Â The sauce was very tangy and overly sweet; there was no real flavor to it other than sweetness. Â There needed to be more chunks of ginger as well. Â I got tired of eating it about halfway through and a Subway sandwich sounded more appealing. Â I eat Indian food every weekend with my boyfriend and we both agreed that that night at Bombay Brazier we could have done better cooking Indian food at home for ourselves.
My plain naan was okay, but not nearly puffy enough. Â My boyfriend's garlic naan was also not puffy and had very little flavor. Â He ordered the chef's special at a medium spiciness, but it came out as mild as my meal, which I ordered 'mild'. Â The waitress assured him that his meal was made with white meat before he ordered, but it was decidedly dark meat chicken when he got it. Â I had trouble with the chicken in my meal as well because it had a slimy coating (I think the skin was left on) and I found several pieces of gristle.
Overall, after this bad experience with lackluster food at very high prices, I will not be back. Â I prefer Masala on Harrodsburg Road and, occasionally, Tandoor.
I absolutely love this place.
Great food, fantastically nice staff.
The food is very authentic - and higher end fare than other local Indian restaurants. Â
The prices are reasonable, the decor is very nice.
All in all - there isn't anything I don't like about Bombay Brazier.
You're in good hands w/ this place, and you'll be fan after one visit.
Exquisite Indian cuisine in an elegant, intimate setting. Â Personable & attentive staff with great care for their clientele. Â Great list of unique and distinct Indian lagers.
Every dish I've ordered here has been excellent, prepared with fresh & fragrant ingredients by skilled hands. Â If you seek piquance, this is the only place in town I've found to have a satisfactory level of it.
One of the finest places to dine in Lexington.
Incredible! Â I love Indian food, and this was the one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever experienced. I highly recommend starting with the Samosa Chaat. Â So many different ingrediants, textures, flavors, spices, topped on the best samosas I've ever had. Â I'm used to Tandoori chicken being dry, but theirs was so juicy and flavorful, I was amazed. Tikka Masala was also the best I've ever had. Â Waitstaff was great, the Chef came out an asked how our meal was, and seemed genuinely interested in our answers. Â Would definitely come back if I'm ever in Lexington again.
Review Source:A friend and I decided to try Bombay Brazier because I wanted to try some Indian food and my friend had already been to Tandoor, another local Indian restaurant.
The decor is oddly opulent, replete with racks of wine bottles and linen table cloths. The service is welcoming and helpful, providing suggestions (namely to stay away from "indian Hot" level of spicy heat for your food).
The food is typical Indian fair dressed up. I ordered the Lamb Biryani while my dining partner ordered the "Samba" w/ Lamb dish from the Meal Entrees section of the menu. Both came out fairly quickly with the Samba getting an additional plate of rice. I ordered mine Medium, which was plenty spicy for me (and I love spicy food) while my friend ordered the "American Hot" which, judging from his reaction, was too hot. The Lamb was succulent and tender, though the Biryani was average. I have had Biryani that was half as expensive that tasted better. My friend enjoyed his dish, albeit he ordered it too spicy.
Overall, Bombay Brazier was a pleasant experience. The reason I gave it 3/5 may be more subjective than anything. Being a frugal person who cares little for posh decoration, I thought the food was too expensive for what it was. At $18 for the dish, I just thought it didn't add up, though I understand the location and decor are added into the price. So if you don't mind paying a little extra for luxurious surroundings, then by all means try Bombay Brazier, you just might be (pleasantly) surprised to find a fine dining Indian restaurant in lieu of the usual utilitarian surroundings.
A high-end Indian place thats not too expensive.
I love Bombay, the food is authentic, and they have levels of spiciness. Â They probably will not serve you "Indian spicy" on your first visit, and thats ok because it is really spicy at a bout a medium level. Â
There is a good bar selection and Indian beers too. Â
You can go cheap and get naan and some sauce, or go all out and get a full meal.
Patio is perfect for nice days.
So, I'm out working on my Royal Enfield in the driveway, and all of a sudden there's a bearded Indian man pulling in on his Enfield(mind you, there are only 3 Enfield motorcycles in the Lexington area). We talk for a while and he invites me to come down to his restaurant some time. It's called Bombay Brazier and it's just around the corner. 2 weeks later, I take my girlfriend over to the restaurant and before I can even sit down, he greets me by name and asks how the bike is. He made a few suggestions on the menu, and we enjoyed some of the best Indian dishes I've ever had(and I used to live with Indian people in Malaysia. I don't to sound cocky, but I think I can recognize quality Indian food by now.)
Just go. Rip will treat you well.
This is one of my favorite Indian restaurants.  It is a little pricey, but the food is dependably delicious and you can't beat the eclectic atmosphere.  There's also a great wine and alcohol selection, something  a lot of Indian restaurants don't seem to offer.  Everything I've ordered here has been a winner, I especially love the shahi paneer and the baigan bharta.
