The moment you walk in, you can tell this place has history. A Â little thrown off with the Hardware sign in the front, I decided to give this place a try.
Can't write too much about it as I just got a salad and some wings. The smoked wings were average. Could taste the smokiness but other than that, not much flavor. As for the salad... man this place is definitely a meat place. I ordered the BBQ salad with chopped brisket. The salad came COVERED in meat. I couldn't see any greens except for the few slices of tomato and cucumber on the rims of the plate. Half was covered in chopped brisket and the other half was filled with onion rings.
As for the meat, it was just okay. the chopped brisket were a bit bland and not juicy.
If you were going for the healthy route or like the freshness of a salad, I wouldn't recommend the salad. If you love meat and want a few greens to make you feel healthier... go for the salad.
I loved the self serve sauce station with about 7-8 different kinds of bbq sauces. I tried their two hottest/spiciest and as for the spice level, was pretty weak and was more sweet than spicy. Our server didn't mention the sauce station so we stumbled upon it on the way to the bathroom.
Bathroom... i guess i dont know by pigs but the sign for men and women is Boar and Sow so my guess was right, Boar = Male and Sow = Female. Â Just thought i'd throw that out there... :)
Overall, was good. I would come again and try their meat section next time as trying to eat a healthy salad was a no go here.
A-OK in my book. The atmosphere in historic downtown Abingdon is right on the money. The owner himself was manning the bar and gave great recommendations. I had the pulled pork and pulled chicken and he suggested my sides - collard greens and cornbread fritters. The sides were my favorite part of the meal. Not that the meat was bad, just lacked a little flavor. I tried three of the homemade sauces. The best was the plain jane Memphis style sauce. Washed it all down with a cream ale. Â I'd go back for sure.
