I've eaten here three times and can't say I ever had a bad experience, that being said I wasn't very impressed by the quality of food and the menu selection. The cheeseburger quesadillas were a must have app every time I went here. Good atmosphere, easy to get to off the highway and cool looking menus.
Review Source:So this place will not take reservations. Â Well, we stopped in with a party of 20! Â We were lucky enough to get James and Monica as our waiter/waitress team. Â They were very friendly and did a great job! Â We even had a couple people move seats around and they were good enough to remember who ordered what. Â I could write a long review on this place that would be good... but what I really came here to say is that James and Monica did a great job considering the size and timing of our group. Â I will definitely return with my family for a second round! Â Well done!
Review Source:The husband and I got a gift card here. Â I wasn't expecting much, to be honest. Â We tried to come here once and weren't even able to find a parking spot. Â We took my mother-in-law here for mother's day. Â The food was pretty good, actually. Â I had the grilled cheese hamburger and was wildly impressed. Â Their crinkle cut fries were so very good, and I don't usually love fries.
We were seated next to a guy that was there with his mom and wouldn't shut up. Â I guess that's not a review of the place, but the people.
It was busy and the portions were huge. Â The menu was pretty diverse, but the service was nothing special. Â It seems like a place that is always busy and the lot does not accomodate the amount of people it can hold.
went here for a mothers day lunch with my wife and 10year old son.while waiting for a table, my wife was rudely bumped aside by a very tall man in a shirt and tie, most likely some sort of manager at this restaurant. Anyway, I ordered an iced tea. It was sugar free and no offer of sweetener came from our waitress. No sweeteners on the table either. We ordered a plate of nachos to start. They were good, plentiful and had just the right amount of toppings. Next came our entrees. My wife had a fried chicken
dish. Pretty good, crunchy coating, nice gravy. The mashed potatoes were good too. the green beans were way overcooked. I had the chicken piccata special. One and a half chicken tenders(kinda small) with a lemon caper sauce over spaghetti. Pasta was overcooked and mushy and the sauce separated and left a big pool of oil in the bottom of the bowl. My son ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries, medium. The burger was almost well done, charred, and inedible. the fries were barely cooked, still white, and also inedible. my son was very disappointed. our server was very friendly and attentive, but should have said something about the unsweetened tea. other than that, service was spot on. I will try them again, as it was a very busy day and they are still fairly new.
Went here for lunch. Had their Tuna Melt with macaroni salad and it tasted great!
I like how they have complimentary soup in which you can help yourself to.
This place looks like a great venue to watch sports and it really is like a Tavern because it gets dark in there!
Solid with great food!
Sat down and placed our order ... Waitresses attitude changed when we ordered soda instead of alcohol  ... Noticed other tables being asked if they wanted popcorn while they waited.. We had to ask for it and were answered with a grunt... Never got it.... Food was great .. Calamari was delicious even though it was in a pool of oil, Southie Reuben was fantastic.... Waitresses attitude got better as time went on.... If this place can maintain its current level of portions and prices we will be regulars
Review Source:Tried Boston Tavern for the first time. The bar and atmosphere is nice. The food is your typical pub style food. I had the fried chicken cutlet with gravy - the gravy was very salty as was the mixed vegetables. My husband got fish and chips. The fish was under cooked and stinky, fresh fish should not smell like that.
What really angered me was one of the bartenders took it upon herself to braid her long blond hair in front of us behind the bar - a definite no no in my book. Next time she should maybe get to work on time and do her hair in the bathroom....
Was not impressed! I was looking forward on a delish lunch. But instead I receive ok service and a lunch that was not so good. Hostess did not give us a warm and fuzzy feeling when we arrived. A smile would have been nice. We ate at the bar because there was a ten minute wait. The barmaid also had a personality of a peanut! We both had the chicken Mac n Cheese, which was curdled and lumpy on bottom!! Â Very dissaponted with my overall experience and will never return.
Review Source:I've been to Boston Tavern before and have usually been pretty happy with the experience. Â However, over this past weekend, we returned for dinner and drinks. Â I ordered a hamburger with extra pickles, which came and was pretty good. Â The issue came with the bill...we had a surprise $1.99 charge for the pickles! I mean seriously, I could have gone across the street and bought two jars! Â If the waitress had told me about the charge when I ordered, I would have said forget it. I realize it's only two bucks but I felt it was the principle and the fact that they were nickel and diming customers. Â What's next a $1.00 for a lemon in your ice water!?
Review Source:First time was tonight. Â Greeted at door by tall male in shirt and tie. Â Asked us how many in party and then left to go look for seat for us, or at least I assumed. Â He then went to kitchen area, then down by the bar, then back to the kitchen area and then back to the bar. Â In the meantime, 3 other parties arrived and gave their name. Â I realized that we were not going to be seated so I gave my name to the other hostess and told her what had happened. Â Didn't say anything or apologize, just nothing.
Five minutes later we were lead to our seats, by the exit door in the back.  The table was clean but the floor told us what the previous people eating here had to eat.  Chicken wings, fries and  popcorn.  There was also a fork and napkin on the floor.  Instead of the that male host running around the place looking for seats, give him a broom and sweep the floor.
Our waitress, Chicky, was nice and serve us well. Â Too bad the food wasn't as nice. Â My wife had a cheeseburger quesadilla. Â Not what she expected. Â A flour wrap with cheese, very large onion petals and chopped hamburg, not a patty. Â It was a greasy, messy sandwich. Â PLUS, they ran out of fries for the night. Â WTF? Â Shoot, you run out of fries, go across the street to the grocery store and go by some.
I had the boneless wings in some kind of sweet and sticky sauce. Â Not bad. Â The wings appeared to be freshly made and were cooked nicely. Â I also had a bowl of clam chowder. Â It was hot, thick and tasty. Â Problem was the shallow bowl it was served in which made it just about a ladle full over a cup. Â Also, since when do you serve clam chowder WITHOUT crackers?
I guess the best part of the meal was the IBC Root Beer and the bottle of Bud.
Will we go back? Â Probably not.
So I'd like to update my review after giving this place a second chance. Â I decided to go for a burger this time, and that was an AWESOME choice. Â I got the "Big Papi" burger, which had cheese, sauteed onions and mushrooms, bacon (I got without the bacon) lettuce, tomato, etc. Â It was a really good burger, they cooked it to perfection. Â It was a true medium rare. Â It was nice and juicy, tender, and all the components merried well together. Â The bun was a large one, it had to be for this huge burger, nothing special about that, but the burger itself was bomb. Â
The BF got the pulled pork sandwich, it was huge and looked yummy, he liked it a lot, I did not partake, I was trying hard enough to finish mine! Â So after this experience I would go again for the burger.
This place has the best food in the area. I highly recommend the Mac & Cheese and chicken.
Wide variety of food available on the menu and the service is great.
While here, Â I recommend you sign up for their reward club. They will give you points for every purchase that translates into a $10 coupon every $200 spent.
I also recommend signing up for their email list as at least once a year they offer a buy one get one free on gift cards (you read that right... buy a $100 gift card, get a free $100 gift card).
There is generally a wait on the weekends but it is worth it.
I have been here about 4 times now. Each time I go, I become more of a fan. While this place is not perfect, they do a lot of things really well. They could rely on processed foods and frozen foods and they don't. The vegetables are fresh. Fresh green beans sauteed with peppers and nicely seasoned. The mashed potatoes are real. The Daisy Mae chicken is absolutely divine. I have found my new boneless fried chicken place!!! It is super crispy and pounded thin. (Pounding it thin is one of those things you don't expect that they don't have to do, but it really enhances the crispiness.) The portion size is generous for about $11. I definitely eat this meal twice, because I can never finish it. Â The homestyle gravy is really nicely spiced, not at all flour-y like it could be. My boyfriend often gets the steak tips and the sauce on them is really good. The tips are very tender too. Â I am not a fan of their onion rings, though. I am really surprised at the negative reviews because this place was such a pleasant surprise for a strip mall tavern. While I haven't tried everything on the menu, I can definitely recommend the fried chicken and steak tips. The fresh veggies are excellent too.
Review Source:This may be a weird review for a restaurant that I gave 4 stars to but the staff is a 5, the atmosphere is also a 5 and the food is pub food "light" (2 stars) so you do the math.
If you want casual food to watch a game or have a drink with friends go here. If you need a place to celebrate your wife's birthday choose elsewhere.
If anyone from The Boston Tavern is reading this PLEASE hire a true professional chef, it would make you a force to recon with!
Cheers,
I went here a few times and I liked the atmosphere, as it was a big step up from the restaurant that used to be there. The food wasn't awesome, but the salads were pretty good. The reason why I stopped going was when I realized they were watering down their liquor. Heavy, heavy pours, yet barely any taste of alcohol, not even a hint of a buzz after 3... At first, I thought it was me until my friend and fellow bartender started voicing the same concerns. Sorry Boston Tavern, but you pissed off someone who works in the industry and who likes her drinks. I'll never return.
Review Source:Let me start off by saying the timing of the delivery of food from kitchen to table is way off. I rec'd my entree before our app. and before the 3 other people in our party. That was the start..... My buddy ordered a burger and specified no cheese, butter, etc. he has a lactose allergy. He had his burger delivered to him with butter, not once but twice!! He questioned the mgr and waitress they basically had no answers. Bun was yellow, etc.. Overall experience SUCKED!!!! Food was rather bland, barely ok. I personally will NEVER return!!! Gl to future patron's.
Review Source:Chowder was average. Pizza was sub-par. Service was excellent. Prices were rather high for pub food. The total on the check gave me sticker shock. Could have spent the same money at one of our favorite upscale restaurants and had much better food for the dollar. However, the restaurant was extremely busy, so it's obvious that a lot of people are bigger fans of the place than I am. I guess you'll have to judge this one for yourself. You won't be sorry, but your wallet might end up a little lighter than you were expecting.
Review Source:Gave three stars, would go 2.5 if I could. Stopped in on our way to IKEA, seen the sign on the highway and figured we would give it a shot. Had a beer and a burger, wife had a grilled chicken sandwich. Thumbs down for not having Guiness on tap, come on, it's called Boston Tavern and you have Guiness in a can? Burger was cooked perfectly give them an A+ for that, we chose the Sweet Potato fries, nothing special but they weren't bad either. I'd go back if I was in the area but wouldn't make a special trip for it. One thing worth mentioning is we sat at the bar to avoid the wait, bar staff was real good and cheerful too. $32(before tip) for a burger, chicken sandwich, Tall Killians, and one green Coors Lite not too bad for lunch.
Review Source:Love the food, love the people. Very comfortable and friendly. Great comfort food: Daisy Mae Chicken - fried chicken breast w/mashed,gravy, veg. The burgers are terrific, and the French Fries are the best (and I really mean that, the best). The Cobb Salad is great as well. And the Pastrami sandwich is great as well.
And if you want to sit at the bar and eat with friends and watch a game on their many plasma's that is good as well
Lunch is great too. Free soup at lunch.
Me and two of the kids took grandpa to lunch here; a first time for me, third or fourth for the kids. Â And the verdict was...
* Big Papi burger: we got 2 of these, one ordered well done, one medium well. Â They came exactly as ordered and they liked them a lot. A+.
* Crazy Manny burger: excited by all the jalapeno/pepper jack talk I ordered this. I ordered it medium-rare, and it came medium-rare...it was a little confusing to see all our burgers come the way we ordered them, but well done Boston Tavern! Â And it was a delicious burger, but barely spicy. Â A-.
* Fried mozzarella: "A". Â I'm not sure what my son's rating guidelines are, but whatever.
* French fries: these were good! Â Thick and julienne-cut, and they weren't greasy. Â A.
Prices were exactly what I expected - reasonable. Â I'd happily come back here.
So I was really surprised that I liked this place so much.  I had driven by it for months and never really thought too much about it because it's in this sort of unappealing strip mall.  I went with my husband and two children (9 and 10) and everyone liked it.  There was something for everyone.  It's got a great sports bar feel to it so it's loud and busy and kids fit in well (up to a certain time of the evening.)  The food was tasty.  It's nice to find a non-chain restaurant that has great food, great service and a fun atmosphere.  Parking is a breeze and the restaurant was clean and nicely decorated.  I'd go there again in  a heartbeat!
Review Source:Boston Tavern is a cozy, pub-like establishment that serves up a wide array of bar-type dishes in a sports-y atmosphere. Â Came here this past weekend for a late lunch. . . absolutely starving. . . and was pleasantly surprised by their large selection of dishes sure to fill my innards with their greasy goodness.
Opting to sit at the bar, our party of three dispersed around a corner and immediately delved into the artistically drawn menu. Â Claiming to be the "Purveyors of Freedom from Hunger & Thirst", I was delighted by the selection of comfort "Hub Happytizers" (including wings, chicken fingers, and onion rings), "Boston Garden" salads, "Big League Sandwiches", "Boston Fish Pier" seafood dishes, "Beantown Burgers", "Monumental Sandwiches", and "Freedom Trail Favorites". Â The full bar had a limited selection of beers on tap but made up for it with cleverly named cocktails such as the "Green Monster", "The Boston Tea Party", and the "Back Bay Dirty Water".
I enjoyed El Titante's Smoke Stack Burger. Â It was made with certified angus beef, cheddar cheese, applewood smoked bacon, bbq sauce, and a stack of crispy onion strings. Â Holy cow was it huge! Â Served with a pile of french fries and a side of ketchup, this meal hit the spot. Â The food was well made and flavorful. Â Not the best I've ever had, but certainly worth what I paid. Â To drink, I enjoyed a Blue Moon draft in a chilled glass and had a great time kicking back with friends. Â
The atmosphere of this restaurant provided a welcome escape from a lazy, hot, and very bright summery afternoon. Â The air-conditioned, low-lit, friendly environment added to the experience. Â As we left, the previously barren lot was filled with activity and loads of cars toting patrons out for an early dinner. Â I would certainly come back here in the future for more pub grub and beer. Â I can see why this place is so seemingly popular! Â Flat screen tv's and keno too!
Amazing menu and atmosphere. Â Menu is busy and colorful. Â Popcorn is offered while waiting for food. Not a fan of their jerk marinated turkey tips which came with potato and smash squash and a little cup of baked beans. Â The kowloon chicken sandwich was alright. Â Even with all the toppings, I felt like its missing some flavor. Â It is a big sandwich. Â Comes with sweet potato fries ( which was delicious) and baked beans. Â
I did not try the burgers, but was big and looks great.
Cool new place that took over All-Season's location. Has your typical tavern menu: burgers, hot sandwiches, tons of apps and comfort foods. Everything is reasonably priced. All sandwiches and burgers come with Boston Baked Beans and your choice of crinkle fries, sweet potato fries, macaroni salad or onions rings (rings addt'l 99 cents). Everything has a cool boston/mass name.
I had the Kowloon chicken sandwich, which is grilled terriyaki chicken breast with grilled pineapple, hula hula sauce, guacamole, red onion and lettuce and tomato..I think it was like 8 bucks and well worth it. The roll was soft, fresh and the sandwich was delish.
Definitely will be going here when I'm in the mood for a hot sandwich or burger. Thumbs up!
