If i could i would give this place zero stars. If your ok with managers  with no teeth allowing people into their bars and ALLOWING A MAN TO PUT HANDS ON A WOMAN then go ahead. This "manager" is disgusting and said my friend was "causing a scene at his bar" when she went to tell him that a man pushed her, TWICE. Not to mention this "manager" witnessed the altercation both times and let it slide. ARE YOU F*CKING KIDDING ME? if your a female only come here if your ok with being abused, molested, harassed and having people threaten your life saying they are going to kill you (all in front of the douchebag manager) then this is your place. F*CK THIS PLACE but more importantly  F*UCK THE MANAGER... but shout out to the bomb guard security guard and DJ who were killin it tonight. but for real f*ck the manager. A genuine piece of sh*t for a human being.
Review Source:Nice laid back neighborhood spot!
I live less then five minutes away from here, and it's a fun place to hang out if I feel like getting out of the house for a drink or two (or ten).
I'm a fan of it on the "off nights" where it's more of a dive bar as opposed to nights where they have a DJ and clear out the tables for a dance floor. Â Crowd is mixed from the "I just turned 21" to the older people in their 40s.
The drinks are very cheap, even the $3 wells are very stiff. So no complaints on that, they take cash and card. So that's always a plus.
Taco Bell next door and a 24 Hour Jack In the Box right across the street for drunk munchies, and we have a winner!
I like the fact that they are right down the street from me which equates to a cheap cab ride home if need be. To be honest, I liked the old gully, gritty, grimey, slimey B.L better under the old management, back when Natalia and Marina were serving drinks stronger than Bill Kazmaier. They also had way better personality, and were much easier on the eyes. The new regime has a constant yuppy crowd, usually a sausage fest, weak drinks, bartenders that get way too drunk, and on select nights the music is the same playlist from my 8th grade dances. Drinks are priced ok, just ok.
Seeing how I love the Cardiff, I thought this would turn out much better than it did. I'd rather fuck with the Brit. At least you'll catch some cougars there. Fact
This is a great bar, guaranteed to have fun. Â Exceptional bartenders, top beer on tab, and a super sound system. Â Cozy bar and couches with a fire place. Friendly crowd, every one to have a good time. Comfortable kick back place for a date. Â Thursday night is reggae by awesome roots and dancehall DJs. Â Tonight was my second Thursday and I will be back on Thu and other nights, Wed karaoke night.
Review Source:San Jose needs more of these lounges.... I give it a 4 out of 5 only because of the crowd that it brings... It's not their fault....also in all of San Jose in every good bar, there's TV's and I'm not a fan of that because it gets between people actually having a conversation because they're so fixated on whatever is on TV, but if you bring your girls or boys and want to meet funny people, this is the place to be. Out of all the bars in the Almaden area, this is by far my fav one.
Everyone that works behind the bar is very attentive. I even enjoy coming in on Thur day time. They have a nice happy hour and the day crowd is fun. I go about twice maybe three times a week..... Hope to see you there!
I just found out that the Branham Lounge turned down a couple of good friends of mine because they had tattoos and mohawks. They were told they weren't dressed properly. That's garbage! Just because someone looks a certain way doesn't give an establishment the right to turn them away. Way to stereotype. Two bad the person that turned them away didn't know that they are two of the most talented musicians in the Bay Area form a local band called Pounders who played on the main stage at Warped Tour and San Francisco Pride this year. They are tow of the nicest people I know and I really feel Branahm Lounge did them wrong.
Review Source:This is my homegirl's local dive bar halfway between her work and home. Â Dimly lit, it's got a slightly retro, possibly because they haven't done a full remodel yet. Â Lots of TV's all around, and a live DJ every so often, although the dancing really depends on how packed and poppin' the place gets.
Drinks are strong and cheap - less than $10, and there's $5 specials all night. Â Bartenders are cool, and the crowd is late-20's/early30's locals - some sitting around to chat, and some out to party - it really depends on the night.
Love the fact that I live right down the street from this place. The Branham Lounge has new owners & a different type of crowd now. (Nothing like it used to be) Strong cheap drinks. What more can you ask for? Oh, yeah a DJ that plays good  music? Check that off the list too. Always a good time when I go. Alissa the bartender is always on point & will not let you down. She is infamous for bringing out the slap shot & surprising you with killer shots!!
Review Source:I popped in on a Friday or Saturday night and immediately walked out. Â The seating looks comfortable, but this one redeeming value is rendered utterly worthless by the businesses's other attributes. Â It smelled awful inside, the music selection was so bad it was embarrassing, and the music volume was so loud you would literally have to shout into someone's ear to get them to hear you. Â The crowd looked like some creepy Jersey Shore wanna-be clique, and there was a security team at the door.
I can't imagine who would enjoy this place.
Nice fire always going. Friendly bartenders. Bathrooms are dirty, Â but what bars doesn't smell like piss. The nice staff and the stiff drinks make up for it. Great hangout after work.
Good music. Not to many grenades. Â Comfy seats & old school wallpaper!
Glad they ripped out the carpet.
One word...discriminating! Tried to go in for a nice time with my boyfriend and another couple and they would not let the guys in because they insisted that their pants were too baggy only to see some caucasion guys walking out with the same fitted pants...when the bouncers were questioned on it, they couldn't give us an answer other than you have to be friends with Mgmt in order to be an exception...BS!!! The Branham Lounge wasnt this way before, very sad.
Review Source:This place is great the new owners have really made it a place I feel comfortable going to. They no have added a DJ booth for a better feel and crowd. I love the freindly service and great drinks. This a great place to go with your co-workers and unwind after work. cocktails and dreams all the way!!!
Review Source:My husband and I have been in to Branham Lounge a few times while living nearby. This it not your super classy place nor a place to dance or hang out with the gals. It is simply a bar and the atmosphere as such changes depending on the day and people in it. I have found it to be a relaxed atmosphere most of the time and drink prices are reasonable. Everyone is friendly in my few experiences but I'm not sure I would visit this place with out my husband. Nice place for drinks but not a hang out for the girls sort of place.
Review Source:Just got back from a night at this lounge.
The location is great as it is off the main expressway. Parking is easy and there are places to eat right next to it.
The bottom line is that this place is professionally run with a great vibe. DJ plays great music, the drinks are stiff and well priced. Need I say more?
The new outdoors have done AN AMAZING JOB redoing the place. It still caters to the "regulars" during the day (and by day I mean 10am and on), but is still a great time for the younger crowd come evening. Drinks are cheap and strong. HOT bartenders, if you could take home any of them you would be proud of yourself when you woke up in the morning.
DJ's on some nights, 8 huge flat screens for all sporting events (they have all the sports packages too), and $12 all-you-can-drink PBR when any bay area team is playing on tv.
Well it takes a lot to get me to type about something but here we go! First for all you talking about how it was ghetto and the remodel is nice well let me tell ya something!!! The new wallpaper is the same as the old stuff and the seats are just cleaned and they added 134 speakers so you can't hear anything and they raised the prices on drinks!
Now this isnt my chief complaint. So we are in South Side San Jose and the BL has Sharks posters all over supporting the Sharks. So why is it that when a person wearing a Sharks jersey comes up on a Thursday night, after the game, they make him take it off?!?!?! So this kept me from getting since it held up the 1 ID checker. Then they wouldn't let some guy in for his tat slightly coming up his neck. Now I have tats and the owner of the place, Sam Cardiff, was there and has sleeves as well. But this guy was in his 40s and was an old greaser with a part of a star sticking up but he did his best to cover it. Now they let him in finally after a long conversation about respect and no causing trouble and acting nicer blah blah.... So I finally get into this place after the Vegas style dress code and what do I see behind the bar???? They have a bar back that has Zombie like stitches tatted on his head and face, along with some big ole word tatted on his throat and other random things on his neck!!!! Now I am not bar owner nor do I own a business but I feel that if you hold your guest to standards you should also hold your employees to the same!!!
After last night I am putting this place on my list of places never to go! And I am not allowing any of my friends to either. If you are the type of person that keeps his shirt before his shirt next to the nair and hair gel out in your TOOL shed then this is the place for you!!!! If you want a nice local bar in deep south side go to the Brit or 5th quarter while you wait for the old owners of Branham Lounge to open back up!!!!
Peace out!
Murdoch
The vibe was dope, and it was a good crowd.
the only funny issue i had was when i handed the bouncer my ID he said "lift up you glasses" really? i bet hes one of those people who still gets thrown off on who superman is, must have a great disguise! made me laugh tho.
when we walked in the music was blasting and good picks too!
the only issue i had was even tho it was a good size crowd (more women that men! always a good thing) people were kind boring just standing around! cmon the music is bumpin and you are all just standing? wack!
anyways i would come back to this place! oh plus is next to a taco bell! score!
I was not a frequent frequenter of the old Lounge. I stopped in once or twice for a beer because of the location and its simple, straight to the point approach.
Im 28 so a nice spot, with good drinks and better people is always appreciated. I feel the "New" lounge has done a lot on all three fronts.
The look is refreshed, new furniture, fireplace, chairs, etc. Give you the option to sit down when you want.
The Staff as mentioned is solid, both in service and to look at. Im sure what little areas they can improve on will get quickly ironed out (give it a couple months people! its essentially a new business).
Management is cool and friendly and seems to be engaged as to what their customers want to drink, see and hear.
I ordered a shot of Jager and received a small bucket. Not that I am complaining!
I think this place has a ton of upside and has the right ownership, management and staff to make it a cult hit in South SJ once again. The variety in night themes makes it attractive to many different types of people but in the end, we are all there to have a good time.
Keep it up BL.
This place is amazing. Pure and simple. For those of us who truly enjoy a great lounge, it offers ample opportunity to do so. For those of us who like to get after it and get wild, it's is perfect too. If I'm not at the San Jose Arena for a Sharks game, this is where I'd rather be.
Beautiful female bartenders and very cool male bartenders as well. Everyone here is fun to be around CARE about what they do and how the clients are treated. I love this place and hope to meet my wife there one day.
Ok maybe not, but you will not find nicer establishment to wet your whistle, tie one on, or completely lose your mind. 5 Stars all the way.
I remember about a year ago that this bar was tor up and trashy and it was a real drive bar, the seats were radded up, regulars would sit at the bar and had an old joot box playing music, it was considered a dive bar.
Now it's really Fixed up, the whole inside is replaced, completely new from floor to ceiling and DJ in the corner. The vibe is very city like, very night clubish, Vegas feeling, NOT a Dive bar vibe, with a completely new crowd, not it young crowd, Â small tight sequence dresses and heels?? Not dive bar attire
it seams very random and out of place considering the Location of the bar at the intersection of two busy streets Branham Lane and Almaden expressway with no other bars surrounding it. a Night club in middle of the highway.
Its alright, just not my scene
Ugh. Me and my boyfriend went here on a Tuesday night and the bartenders were a**holes! They were very rude.
We were waiting forever (and it wasn't even that busy) Â for a small cup of PBR for $3! What a rip off! I'm a bartender at 2 different bars that have tall cans of PBR for $4! I got a glass of champagne that cost $9.. wow. This place is expensive for how unpleasant it is.
We had an awful time and didn't stay for a second drink. There are better bars that are cheaper and have cooler bartenders!
This place is nothing like it used to be. ... no offense but I party on the south because im not trying to party in Campbell and now when I go to THE Branham lounge I feel like im in campbell. Â The bar tender is extremely rude and stuck up. My girl ordered a double vodka cranberry and it tasted like a watered down cranberry juice ..... I don't like paying 10$ for a non alcoholic beverage. The music sucked on friday night it was a bunch of techno. If u liked the old Branham lounge then you'll probably like the fifth quarter... the old Branham lounge dj wks there on Fridays .... way better scene. Sorry Cardiff wish u stayed in campbell! !!!
Review Source:Sadly I never got to visit the original Branham Lounge. My friends and I thought it was still in it's original location and were confused circling the parking lot a few times. Luckily there was a Weinershitzel close by and our girlfriend figured they moved two blocks up.
The parking lot was under construction that Thursday evening but I managed to find one of the last parking spots. No line and no cover. Inside you will find dim lighting, sexy velvet walls, plenty of cozy stylish vinyl booths, and a modern litted bar. The new Branham lounge provides a mature, classy, chic atmosphere without the pretentiousness. I absolutely loved the DJ spinning that night, he played a good variety of modern music, hip-hop, house, and old school. The crowd was definitely a lot older, finally a place where everyone isn't in their early twenties! Lots of Sharks fans were hanging out, Go Sharks! Lastly getting a drink isn't a timely ordeal. It's always nice to get acknowledged and served within 5 minutes!
Since the remodel, this place is finally the way it SHOULD be!
(if you saw the old bathrooms, then you know what I mean!!)
Happy Hour 7 days a week til 9pm!!! Â Need I say more?!?! Â
Great crowds at night with some pretty good DJs.
Fast service at the bar from really friendly bartenders. Even the bouncers are polite, not rude like some on the other side of town.
All in all this is a really fun place to have some cheap drinks during the day/evening. Sun-Wed are chill lounge nights, and great to watch MNF and Sharks (bottomless PBRs -$12). Â But be prepared! Weekend nights go off here like a killer-ass club party!! I know it's a small place, but think Union Square dance club...but in Almaden... and it holds over 150 people... doesn't seem too small to me!
The BL is worth trying out, and it will become your new spot... Seriously, this place is fun!
My roommates and I have been looking for a good "local" bar to call home, unfortunately in the area there are not a lot of options (sadly they closed up the cardinal!). Went there for the "grand opening" last night at the suggestion of a friend and was pleasantly surprised. While a bit crowded and at one point even a line to get in the place seemed like a big improvement over the old spot. The staff was friendly and the drinks were strong and cheap, and even tho it was crazy packed it didn't take them long to make our drinks. Would certainly go back there again and bring a few friends.
Review Source:The decor is nice inside, it feels welcoming and fancy.
I went on a Friday night at 10:30, short line outside, we got in after a couple mins. I honestly didn't know what to expect beforehand, the atmosphere turned out to be very club like. Unfortunately even though the place was packed no one was dancing. Everyone just stood around and tried to talk over the loud music.
The crowd is mostly 30+, there were some 'older' ladies standing near the jukebox surveying the crowd, perhaps looking for potential candidates. The DJ span some hits, I expected people to start dancing at some point but that never happened. I guess on a weekday this might be a better place to come to chill, however it was definitely not good for dancing on a Friday night.
I went here last night for the first time and I was surprised at how small it was. Â They had a DJ spinning music and the inside areas were packed. Â
The drinks were pretty affordable and it didn't seem like they marked up the prices on busy nights. Â The DJ spinned some decent music but there wasn't really much dancing. Â A few couples and some groups were dancing but since there really wasn't a dedicated dance floor, it was very scattered around the room. Â
They have a Throwback night on Thursday nights with 80's and 90's music so I definitely want to come back to check that out. Â I miss the old Poly-Esther's in downtown SJ! Â This is a nice place to go as a backup to the Brit located down the street for a smaller low-key environment.
What happened to this place? Â I used to go here years ago, then I moved away. Â I just moved back, and came back to BL, and there are a bunch of rowdy shitheads hanging out here.
Never again. Â If I wanted this environment, I would go downtown to a club. Â This used to be a nice quiet place to enjoy a drink and conversation. Â Now, it's like a rave.
I have been here before but stopped going because of the crowd that plagued the old B lounge. ..... After spending some time at The brit this night  we decided to go here...Came here with some family and friends only to be stopped by the door person and said I could not enter because of "sagging jeans".....LMAO whats funny is i dont sag nor was i dressed wearing specific colors as a matter of fact I was wearing a collared button shirt.  I dont allow my children to sag so why would I sag.
WE happen to go there because I had heard that the lounge had improved its look and crowd. I would never return as I felt as though maybe it was because I am Latino. I could see no other reason why the door person would say him and his manager believed me to be be "sagging". I frequent The Brit, Cardiff and never had any issues.
I dont write many reviews but this place bugged me enough to have taken time write a review.
Once again...A happy customer tells one friend, and unhappy customer tells everybody.......
This place has been there since 1969! Â It has gone through some rough patches let me tell you. Â But the new owners have outdone themselves. Â WOW.. This place looks amazing! Â Like it probably did brand new in 1969.. with some added flavor! Â It is super hip.. very comfortable.. extremely reasonably priced.. and the staff is amazing compared to the previous owners. Â It has a DJ booth with live DJ's often.. but the jukebox is where its at... They have a jukebox for the ages!! Â Apparently the new owners are something called the <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Flastcallgroup.com&s=4508c99db165d0bcec28b786b80de993da92f595963ad268c1bc8ae33add478b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://lastcallgroup.com</a> ? Â Who cares.. this place rocks!
