Brass Tap easily has the best tap selection in Round Rock. Â In addition to rotating specials and limited releases, they have a great bottle selection. Â And a decent happy hour. Â Unfortunately, for a place of this sort, the waiters (who are invariably sweet, by the way) have a surprisingly scant knowledge of beer. Â One brought me three different beers before finding the one I actually ordered. Â Not a big deal. Â I'm sure this situation will improve with time. Â What I did take exception to was one of the managers (some bearded dude) rolling his eyes and looking annoyed when I asked a simple question about one of the beers. Â Let me tell you son, as someone who visits beer bars and breweries across the country, the best beertenders are helpful and engaging. Â They welcome questions and offer suggestions. Â Take a trip down to Craft Pride and see how they do it, for instance. Â While your servers are still working to learn about beer, I have a suspicion that your arrogance masks a lack of knowledge as profound as theirs.
Review Source:WOW! We loved this pub! The bartenders are nice and very helpful!! They KNOW how to serve a beer too!! The one waitress with the black hair and tats was awesome, she knew right away the kind of beer I'd like and each time she'd give me a sample I'd end up ordering that beer. The band can get pretty loud but they were actually good so it could have been worse, they could have sucked. They've got a few flat screen TV's and the interior is very dark and woodsy. Reminded me of a place Ron Burgundy would frequent. I already want to go back and it's only 10 AM...the day after.
Review Source:Its not Draught House!
Selection of beer is decent and if Round Rock residents don't want to drive all the way to town, this could be an alternative. My gripe is with both the prices and service. I don't think there is beer below $6, in town, most pints are $4.50-5, barring the premium ones. Our bartender did not know his beer. The chalkboard and the menu did not co-ordinate, which is excusable, since we went the first week.
Like I said, if you are in Austin, Draught House, Billy's on Burnet and plenty of other places offer great beer at honest prices with knowledgeable staff.
GREAT addition to downtown Round Rock! However, I think it's the only "chain" franchised facility in all of the historic strip downtown. Boo...We really love the local businesses.
But they did an excellent job preserving the history of the building. The atmosphere is really nice and clean/rustic feeling. They have the original wood floors, safe, ceiling, and other accents right alongside beautiful flat screen TV's and beer boards. Â It's very inviting and feels like a true classic style alehouse/pub. Checked the patio out, and it's really nice. Small fountain and lots of tables, very chic looking. They have misting fans for hot days.
Beer selected was great. We sat at a table and our waiter was very good, offered samples of beer to my husband before he committed to a seasonal. Â Obviously with a name like brass tap - they have of beer options. There were also some wine and mixed drink choices. There's a small humidor in the wall by the safe, we were informed that you can purchase the cigars and smoke them on the patio. No smoking inside. Apparently they also have bands play on the small front window indoor stage by Thurs-Sat evenings, but we haven't checked it out.
Overall we really liked it and can't wait to go back!
Lots of beers on tap but less than knowledgable wait staff, slow bartenders and way too much head on the beers  Since they don't serve food (but have very cleverly worked out a delivery deal with the cajun place next door) they'd probably be much better off having 3 REALLY good bartenders and no waiters. Â
Truly disappointing
If you like a WIDE variety of beer or wine choices, then this is your place. Located in historical downtown Round Rock (they kept the historical bldg as original as possible), the Brass tap is the kinda joint where you could easily become a regular. The menu is vast (some 60+ on tap and 200+ bottles!) and there is an available booklet to describe each type of beer offered. Prices are quite reasonable as well.
Parking is good, staff seemed friendly and outgoing but they are a tad bit slow and don't seem to have a lot of knowledge of their beer.
If you are looking for craft beer or local beers and want a pub vs bar feeling then this is the place. West Side Ale house is decent but it feels way too much like a sports bar to be enjoyed the same as a pub or bar. Â
The selection of taps was nice even though my first 2 choices were not available but still listed on the wall. Â
The only gripe I have is that not everyone at the bar is a beer person and this can be a dangerous thing if you love beer.  The first person I spoke with didn't know who Austin Beerworks was or that the Einhorn was around which made me sad and almost walk out. The second person rescued me by knowing who they were and suggesting Live Oak after asking for 2 other hefe's that  were not available.  I saw a few abuses of beer it was definitely worth the stay.

The taps are also listed on a giant board located on the main wall and easily visible from most places in the bar. They also have a small but varied wine list as well as a cigar humidor, and even a few signature/local style cocktails available. A large patio out back is available for those wanting to enjoy the night time.
My girlfriend (a recent NYC transplant) went right after the grand opening and the place was packed! We managed a comfortable spot where the head manager spotted us. We had previously watched when they had begun breaking ground and he gave us an inside tour of what it would look like upon completion. he even asked what styles/brands of beer we each liked. Seeing us at the opening he mentioned that I had said I liked Coney Island Lager (from Brooklyn), and low n behold, it's on tap! He was kind enough to buy us a round while asking us what we thought.
The wait staff, while slammed that night, still kicked butt at giving prompt friendly service to all waiting for a beer. There are several special usually going on as well as a "members" club where you can get tons of extras by joining. I look forward to becoming a regular as this is exactly the kind of place that makes it easy to hang out!
A welcome addition to Round Rock and a true-to-form bar where you can become a "regular". Â Even though it's a chain, it feels like one-of-a-kind.
Dozens upon dozens of beers on tap - almost half of them from Texas, and many of them from Austin/Central Texas. Â Beyond the tap selection, another several dozen bottled brews from all around the world, many of which you probably have never heard of.
The space is comfortable, free wi-fi, cold AC. Â Also, a nice back patio on which you can smoke cigars they sell.
Cool specials ($4.50 Texas beers the day we were there). Also, they have a rewards program that seems pretty legit if you're a true "regular".
No food (at least that I saw). Â The only negative thing is that the service is a bit off. Â There were a few staff people standing around, but none of them were doing anything. Â It seemed there was one guy doing everything while the others just stood there.
Great place for craft beer lovers. Â Went on June 21st, was the grand opening, totally packed and received great service. Â 50 taps, nice selection of local and national brewers. Â Never waited more than a few minutes for a beer. Â Nice addition to downtown RR, will be a regular here.
Review Source:The Brass Tap is a full bar with an excellent selection of drafts, bottles, and decent wines. They also are big on scotch and cigars. We unknowingly came during their grand opening which was a mad house. Despite the large turn out, they were very well staffed. After a few minutes we lucked out and scored a couple seats at the bar.
The Brass Tap is a franchise, but you could not tell by walking into this location. This area is made of historical buildings and it appears they have managed to maintain that look and feel. Inside is a small stage for live music and they also have a full service patio in the back of the establishment.
The wines are reasonably priced ranging from $5-$8. The twenty something ladies seemed to favor the sangria. I had a malbec for $6 and Jesse was happy with his Golden Monkey. We would have liked to order food but as I was looking at the menu a manager told me that there were employees walking around taking food orders. Â The menu I saw at the bar was actually from their neighbor, Louisiana Longhorn Cafe.
If you plan on being a regular join the Brew Crew. It is $15 to join and you will earn points for your lushy ways which will get you perks like t-shirsts and credit/gift cards to spend there. Drink beer, earn points and get rewarded.
The Brass Tap is a bar, which we know can get loud. Loud enough that after an hour and a half my throat was sore from trying to speak over the buzz in the room. This may not be the norm as I mentioned before it was their grand opening.
The Brass tap is a great addition to this area and next time I'm making the rounds on Round Rock's Main Street I will likely stop in but perhaps find a spot on the quiet patio.
Tips: Park in the city hall parking garage. It is close by and free.
They have purse hooks!
Can I give 10 stars? Â Because this place deserves it! Â Don't even know where to begin with how much I love this place but I'll start with the fantastic staff. Â They KNOW their beer! Â And I certainly do not know my beer. Â So I loved being able to tell them what I like in a beer and next thing I know, a fantastic tasting brew is sitting in front of me. Â I have never in my life liked any dark beers, until the staff here introduced me to one they knew I would like based on what I told them. Â And it was great! Â There is something for everyone, even non beer drinkers have a good selection of ciders that I'm going to bet you will like. Â The decor and feel of The Brass Tap is great. Â The inside feels like an old pub, with hardwood floors that were original to the old soda fountain that was once there. Â And the outside deck off of the back is extremely comfortable even in the Texas heat with the fans blowing. Â Round Rockers have a new gem in this place! Â I think I'm going to become a "regular" here. Â Makin' momma proud.
