    Disappointing...

Decor: The setting is upscale and well maintained.  It definitely has an older feel to it but makes it good for taking the rents out.

Service: Our server was very nice but overall wasn't fantastic.  We had to wait an extended period of time for our menu's, he forgot part of our drink order and barely came over to the table during our time there.  The rest of the staff was similar in being nice but unpolished in that they would pour water a haphazardly and wasn't very careful in delivery food or clearing the table.

Food: Wow, what a disappointment.  They say the Salmon is wild, I don't believe it.  The mashed potato's seem like they are out of a box and the other dishes I tried were not even as good as what I would cook at home.  And I'm REALLY NOT a good cook.

Although the pricing is reasonable for the atmosphere I'm not going to repeat.

Fancy looking and yummy tasting brunch for less!!  I am so happy to have found this place!  I have been looking for a fancy looking brunch place that is reasonably priced for some time now and have finally found a great little place!  Yay!

Not only is it upper scale looking inside but the food was yummy and reasonably generous.  I went there the weekend before Christmas and had an omelette with ham and Gruyere cheese..its was amazing!  The food quality was high and the service was quick enough.  The only comment about service that I have is that our waiter completely lacked personality and seemed a little bit like he was on auto pilot but no biggie.

All in all a great experience!

Can't wait to start taking friends and family there!  Also looking forward to trying them for dinner.  Their menu for dinner is also reasonably priced for what looks like upper scale dinning.  They also have seafood nights and stake nights, etc.

Came here for brunch on a Sunday around noon. The price was decent. Had the eggs benedict with salmon and it was delicious, although I've had better before. You get a choice of complimentary mimosa/tea/coffee. My friends ordered the omettele and oven baked pancake and they said it was really good too.  This restaurant is actually part of New Hyde Park Inn. There is a lot of free street parking nearby on a sunday.  I would come here again!

    OMG!

I love going here for breakfast/brunch/dinner you name it. You can't go wrong with anything you choose off the menu. Be sure to ask Victoria about the birthday Champagne.

I drag as many of my relatives here to come and enjoy a meal, so they too could enjoy the experience.  They honor the yelp discount, are very attentive and inviting. Did I mention that customer service is TOPS. They treat you like famiily and I have yet to be dissapointed.  I am biased I guess, it hard to get good service for your money nowadays.

    Enjoy!

    Thanks for listening/reading.

We went to Brasserie 214 on Saturday night for a quiet date, just my wife and I.  We've been here once before, not counting parties on the catering side, and remembered it well and gave it another try.

I can't point to anything in particular that drops this to only 3 stars, but it was just a feeling we got and a price/value issue.  The service almost got it up to 4 stars, but I'm just not feeling it.

The service was very good.  The food was good (not great) but my steak was a little over cooked.  Not enough to send back, but a $30 skirt steak is a little pricey and too easy to get right.  The other feeling we got is that if you're under 60 you're too young for this restaurant.

One other good note, when I did my standard Yelp! check in a 10% off coupon popped up on the screen.  No one on duty at the time had a clue about it but made no argument against letting me use it.

Took my Mom here for a $34 pre-fixe Easter Sunday dinner and was sorely disappointed.  My Mom's salad was wilted.  Even the cucumbers and onions in the salad were shriveled, as though they were cut several days before being served.  My lobster and shrimp bisque was thin, salty and didn't taste fresh.  Not a good start to our meal, but we tried to keep an open mind.

Mom's sauerbraten was "ok," but nothing to write home about.  My duck was dry (most likely from being cooked in advanced and reheated) and I couldn't detect any flavor from the "Grand Marnier sauce" nor the "sugared cranberries" that made me order this dish in the first place (actually, I did find two pieces of what appeared to be craisins under the duck leg, but not even a trace of the sauce).

Our waiter was slow and inattentive (and the area where we were sat, near the bar, was not busy at all).  He didn't bring us bread, although we saw other tables getting bread and butter as they were seated.  Halfway through the meal, I asked for bread because the food was so awful that I knew I would otherwise go home hungry.  The cold dinner rolls were brought to us without butter, so I had ask for that too...and it took quite awhile to get it.

After the busboy cleared our half-full dishes, our waiter brought us hot tea and the check.  Dessert was supposed to be included--but we had to ask for that too.  Both of our tea mugs were dirty and had "floaters" when we put the milk in.  I was so utterly disgusted at this point in the meal that I didn't even ask for a replacement tea, but Mom did--because she wanted the waiter to know about the dirty mugs.  He brought her another tea, but didn't even apologize about the dirty mugs.

Mom's chocolate mousse cake was standard catering hall dessert but, again, I got the shaft.  What was supposed to pass for tiramisu turned out to a layer of mascarpone with cinnamon sandwiched between two layers of stale (freezer burnt?) white sheet cake--and the mascarpone layer was served still FROZEN!!

For $100 with tax and tip for two people (I had one glass of shiraz for $9 and Mom had a soda for $3), we would have been better off at a diner for Easter supper.  Brasserie 214, you should be ashamed!

As we entered Brasserie 214 we were greeted by the hostess. You walk into the bar area, which seemed to be filled with regulars . We we walked to our table and met by the waitress. As I looed over the wine list I noticed their extensive list of imported beers including 15 beers from Belgium, plus more from Poland, Germany and Scotland.  Though I didn't try the shnitzel, they claim to have one of the largest selections in the area.  We started our meal with Baked Clam Oreginato.  I thought they were pretty good. Next up was out entre. I has the Filet Mingone with mushrooms. It was very good and cooked to a perfect Med rare.  My wife had the chicken with duck bacon . It was excellent. We finished our mean sharing a piece of cheese cake. This was our first time dining here and were impressed. We will be back!

We decided to hold our company party at Brasserie 214 this year. Situated inside the New Hyde Park Inn, I wonder what kind of place it could be, but the pictures on the website were beautiful. Driving there on a Thursday at around 5:45PM, the surrounding neighborhood area near Jericho Turnpike is packed! I could only park one block away deeper into the neighborhood side street, but I would suggest caution because on some streets, there are no parking signs until 6PM. Valet parking is available, but do I really want to spend the extra money?

Once inside, there's a big bar and the area for regular diners. A lot of men were at the bar in their business suits. At first, I thought this was such a small place until my co-worker led me further into the building past the bar. I thought there were only two private rooms at most, but there were so many rooms further down the hall. The place looks like I am inside somebody's house with carpeting and indoor glass doors to divide each room. Our room was small, fitting four round tables and a bit of room in the middle. I heard, if needed, we could have upgraded to the floor above, where there is enough space to hold wedding parties.

I'm not sure what kind of package my company bought, but we were served h'orderves three times while I was there (I was about half an hour late): pigs in a blanket, crab cakes, and something else that looked like chicken, which I did not have the opportunity to try. I don't like how when they run of h'orderves, they don't come back with a fresh batch anymore even when my co-worker requested it.

Our appetizers were served at the middle table and it was self-serve. Everything tasted delicious. The cheese was soft, the salad and fruit platter looked delicious, and I hear my co-workers wiped out all the olives.

Each one of our tables has some white wine: Pinot Grigio and red wine. I sat next to a beautiful fireplace, completely decorated with lights. We even hired a DJ and there was enough room for him to play some songs. To me, the wine wasn't that strong. I had two glasses of wine and I didn't even feel buzzed. Maybe my alcohol tolerance was high because the rest of my co-workers went wild the rest of the night.

We had a first course, which consists of salad in what I think is raspberry sauce and three pieces of shrimp. It was really delicious, but this is where I begin to feel full. How will I have room for the entre? No matter what I thought, I cleaned up every bit of my entre, which was shrimp in lobster sauce. We had a choice in entres. Salmon was a popular choice at my table. My shrimp in lobster sauce with a side of brocolli was definitely a heavenly meal. Why do we even need to go to a catering hall when we can go to Brasserie 214?

For dessert, it was served at the same small table in the middle were the appetizers were situated, only this time, a quiet staff member scooped up the ice cream for us. We had a choice of either chocolate or vanilla ice cream. The toppings were self-serve and included, M&Ms, Oreos, whip cream, and cherries.

The staff was not rude, but they do not talk much. They are courteously quiet almost all the time. Even a "you're welcome" would have put me at ease.  I've seen a person who looked like a manager come in and give command orders but I still didn't hear the staff member respond verbally.

The rest of the night, we danced like crazy in a small carpeted space until 9:00PM when the party had to end. Even though there wasn't a dance floor, we still managed to dance and have a good time. Even the people from the next room joined us because we were having so much fun. I would love to come back here next year!

    PROS: The food was excellent!
CONS: Missing h'orderves, staff is on the quiet side

The food at Brasserie 214 was just amazing.

I went last night on "date night" with my boyfriend and we were seated in a cozy corner overlooking the really nice murals and paintings.  I loved the aura and the server we had was just stellar - precise, witty, and really attentive.

We ordered two glasses of wine that were generous on the pour (great wine list to boot - and happy they promote a few local Long Island wineries).  The appetizer of pierogies was delicious and perfectly cooked.  While they held up their own, the caramelized onions on top were a meal in and of themselves.   My boyfriend had a chicken dish with bacon and mushrooms and potatoes, and I had a special on the menu - hanger steak.  Both had so much flavor, and my steak was cooked perfectly as I wanted it - medium.

The room had moderate level noise so you could indulge in good conversation, and the place was PACKED, all the more indicating how great all of the food is.

Looking forward to going back soon.

What a complete and utter disappointment.

Sorry, but this place is just that.  Disappointing.  My gf and I went here with such high hopes.  The menu sounded so interesting, and there seemed to be a bunch of glowing reviews on another site, so we decided to go.

The restaurant is part of The Inn at New Hyde Park, a large hall that looks like it would be a beautiful location for a wedding or other large gathering.  The interior of the restaurant was somewhat nice, though a little cramped.  None of this bothered me.

My gf ordered the Belgium Steak Frites, a Black Angus strip steak with Cognac peppercorn sauce, frites (fries), and salad frisee garni.  I ordered the Bone-In Tuscan Rib Eye,  with Rosemary Garlic Butter, roasted Fingerling
Potatoes, and Broccoli Rabe.  Both of these dishes were fairly pricey.  (near $40 each)   Given that a "steak for two" is roughly $80 at Peter Luger, and the overall interesting nature of the menu I had high hopes for these dishes.  We also opted for the appetizer & dessert add-on.  I ordered the chopped chicken livers and my gf ordered a salad.  I also got a glass of wine.

The salad looked pretty good - mixed greens, a good bit of blue cheese.  My livers were tasty enough for chicken liver.  It seemed like nothing more than chicken liver processed in a magic bullet with diced red onion.  Seriously!  I've made dog biscuits that involve processing chicken livers in a magic bullet.  This was very close in taste to that step.  (what?  its just chicken liver)

My wine came out and this is where I should have known that the evening was going to take a downward turn.  The wine smelled and tasted like vinegar.  I don't know how long that bottle had been opened, and I'm no serious wine expert, but I know when a bottle has been open way, WAY too long and stored in terrible conditions, and that was my wine right there.  UGH.  Undrinkable.  I got a new glass from a new bottle, but the idea that the restaurant thought it was OK to serve that to anyone....  awful.  Clearly, wine was not something this place took very seriously.  Look, I'm not expecting them to go out of their way to make wine their first and highest priority, but I do expect some basic level of wine storage to be in place.  I've been to restaurants that are nowhere near as extravagant and they knew how to respect their wine well enough.  You would expect that a restaurant keep raw meat in a refrigerated area, right?  This wine tasted as though the bottle was opened 2 weeks prior and left out at room temperature, which in this heat has been fairly high.  It was no longer fit for drinking.  Cooking, maybe.  Not drinking.

Our steaks came out and although they were tasty, they weren't exactly excellent.  In the past month I've had 2 steak dinners (Bonne Saison, Danny Brown Wine Bar & Kitchen) that completely blew this place away in terms of quality, taste, and price.  The steaks tasted like they got some decent meat at Whole Foods and grilled them up.  Not bad, but at that price I could have had dry aged awesomeness (with a side of pretentiousness and scorn) at Peter Luger!

The Cognac peppercorn sauce was very tasty, but there wasn't enough of it.  The frites were thick, semi-soft, and bland.  The salad frisee had a ton of blue cheese on it, so that was tasty.  Too bad it wasn't mine.  My steak was... dare I say it?  Dull.  Tuscan steak with roasted rosemary and garlic butter should be amazing, but it was so dull and lacking in flavor.  I took half of it home.  Maybe for lunch I'll make a sandwich with the steak and some Dubliner cheese and enjoy it with a pint or two.

Since dessert was already included with our meals my gf ordered tiramisu and I ordered rice pudding.  The tiramisu was a lie.  It was not made with lady fingers or anything like it.  It was made with a generic tasting sponge cake on the bottom, and the top didn't seem to be the marscapone/egg white custard I'd expect.  The rice pudding.... well, I'd say it was like Kozy Shack, but I think I like the Shack's pudding more.

We will not be going back.
