I had to update my review after the last few visits to Briana's.
There's been a dip in quality and consistency. My wife has been told on several occasions that she can not order fish taco's because the kitchen is out of fish. Okay, I understand that. Elgin is not exactly a sea town with fishing boats coming into port all day. But she's also been told that the kitchen is out of ice tea on more than one visit. Who runs out of ice tea?
Also, the waitstaff - which was so fantastic previously - has taken a dip. The restaurant seems to be staffed by a single waitress these days, and it seems to be a NEW waitress every time we go. I'm wondering if something has happened to the management of this place.
My wife and I are conflicted: we like Brianna's because it's inexpensive and close to home, but we're more likely to go to a different restaurant that is consistent in quality and service.
I didn't want to, but I had to drop my review from 5 stars to 3. Sorry Brianna's....
Great Tacos!
I stopped in to Briana's today for Lunch. (Hey's it's Cinco de Mayo... why not?)
The menu was extremely varied, Tacos, Enchiladas, Tortas, and even Burgers from freshly ground beef.
I decided to go for the Tacos. You get 3 for $5.69. I had a combo with 1 Chorizo, 1 Pastor (Pork) and 1 Chicken. Â You can chose Flour or Corn tortillas; I went with the Corn. Â I liked the fact that you did not have to stick with 3 of one type like some restaurants force you into.
All of the Tacos were heaping with the meat fillings. I was quite surprised with the size. The Chorizo was very good. Nice flavor, but a bit salty like most Chorizo. The Pastor had a nice kick to it. The Chicken was also very good. I had all of mine Mexican style, which on their menu is with cilantro and onion. I also asked for cheese, and they were happy to add that.
They brought some nice home-made sauces to the the table in squirt bottles. One was a red sauce with a nice kick, and the other was a somewhat milder green sauce. Both had good flavor. Â
The Tacos also came with complimentary Chips and Salsa. Â The Salsa was decent.. it was kind of a thin style, but with some chunks of tomato. Â My only nitpick; the Chips could have used a little less time in the fryer. No big deal.
I'll be back for more... this is much better than most of the Mexican in the area.
