This places is just ok. The pizza shop next door makes good food, and the bar itself has decent eats. As a bar, it is a real hit or miss. It seems to be a haven for bikers and seedy individuals, but a lot of off duty cops hang there as well. I go there is I want a drink and don't feel like going too far.
Review Source:We were here for a birthday party on Saturday night. It has been a while since I have gone out in NE Philly. We had a group of about 10-15 people and hung out from about 10:30pm-2am. I can't comment on the food since we didn't eat. I forgot how much cheaper going out to bars in the NE is compared to center city. The prices were very reasonable and the bartenders were quick at serving and made good drinks. My favorite thing about this place was that there was karaoke on Saturday night. They did a mix of switching back and forth between DJ like music and karaoke. And unlike most karoake places in or around center city, we were actually able to get in a good amount of karaoke without having to wait. The place is also pretty large and spacious so it is good for a group. The only dislike is that they could use more bathrooms.
Tip- if ordering a mixed drink, ask for a double- it is much larger and worth it.
Was looking for a new pizza place to try out. Decided to give the Brick House a shot. they were relatively new in the area and I hadn't heard much about them. I ordered a large pie with half pepperoni and half sausage. The pizza was quite enjoyable. Thin crust. Crispy on the outside with just a little chew to it. Cheese wasn't overdone. Stringy when pulled, but not so overcooked that it slides off the slice. The toppings were laid out evenly, though not as plentiful as you may get in most places. The sausage comes in slices of Italian sausage instead of using sausage crumbles. Sauce was a little on the sweet side, but not so much as to be off putting.
Also ordered the garlic fries. Wasn't sure what to expect. The fries were thin cut, similar to various famous fast food places. But they were drowned in the garlic sauce. The sauce itself actually tasted quite good, and was great for dipping your pizza crust in. But the drenching of the fries pretty much ruined them, creating a soggy, lumpy potato mess.
I'd definitely give them another shot, but probably would skip the garlic fries.
This place was recently changed to Brick House, and I ordered some take out pizza as I wanted to see what they were like. Â The dough was rolled though a machine and not hand tossed, but the pizza tasted quite good. Â It was a nice thin crust and crisp. Â The staff as they were not busy at all were able to accommodate my request for a topping not on the menu (meatball), but you could tell they were not homemade. Â Also asked for 1/2 broccoli which was skimped on. Â The main restaurant was nice and large with lots of TVs to watch the game.
I bet this would be a good place to hang for some beers, but I don't know about food. Â Pizza was good!
I stopped in here one Saturday night to have a drink with the boyfriend and his friends. It's a pretty large place, lots of TVs with sports games on, and a DJ was starting up with some old school tunes as we were heading out. The atmosphere was definitely relaxed enough for my liking, drinks were decently priced and our waitress was sweet. On the downside: one ladies bathroom, and there was no soap that night. I'm probably a little more concerned about bathrooms in bars than the average person, so it put a little damper on my feelings about this place.
