Went here for a friend's birthday party. It was fairly quiet because we went a bit early. They opened at 9, we got there around 10.
Our IDs were checked at the door and there were a few people sitting at the bar. The music wasn't too loud, the dance floor was empty. The bartender was super nice.
I did a liquid cocaine shooter with the birthday girl, then we got black supermans. They were $6 at that time. They have great specials, so check the website for what the specials are! The group decided they wanted to move the party else where, so we left.
Overall, it was a good experience. Cool bartender, cheap drinks, just a bit empty since we got their so early. It was more like a bar experience rather than a clubbing one though.
Full disclaimer: I personally don't enjoy clubbing all that much, and won't seek out clubs... ever. I just don't like it, so chances are I'm going because somebody else wants to go. Clubs automatically get a -1 star from me;
Sad to say Brix is a shell of what it used to be. When Splash closed a few years back, it became the only dancey gay joint in the whole city of San Jose. They could have easily rested on their laurels, but this place was packed every weekend, and not just because it was the only choice. People genuinely were having a great time -- good music, good, stiff drinks -- all that.
Once Splash reopened, it's like Brix had an identity crisis. The music has changed from a perfect mix of dance remixes, hip-hop, and old school to almost exclusively the dance stuff that is played at every other place (namely, Splash). The sound system is also very inconsistent, sometimes too quiet; more often WAY too loud.
One of the great things about this place is all the room there is to move around. Two dancefloors on either side of the bar, plus a giant patio with a bar in back. Problem is, now that the vibe has changed, it's a lot more empty than it used to be, which is a buzzkill.
Still, this is the cheaper (and better, as far as what you get for your money) option when compared to Splash.
Came here for my birthday last month since it seemed like a chill bar to hangout with a couple of my friends.
The place wasn't too flashy like most bars nor was it too dull. They have a bunch of tv screens against the walls that shows clips of music that they play. The booths were extremely comfy and a great place to just sit down and have a drink.
The drinks were good but extremely inconsistant (price wise). I ordered a key west cooler (which was made perfectly) and that came out to a total of 15 bucks. Now, I don't know about you guys but 15 dollars for a drink was pretty pricey in my opinion. After my friends tried the drink that I got, they really liked it and decided to order two of the same thing. Once the drinks were made, the bartender calculated how much it costed and he told them "18 bucks." How did I get charged 15 for one drink while my friends got charged 18 for two?
I'll probably come back here again since my friends really like this place. Most likely won't be ordering any mixed drinks though. :///
Lets be serious guys... this is freakin' san jose. But all things considering I had a lot of fun... i also had a lot of drinks, so i don't know how legit my opinion is.

Used to really enjoy going out for a good Boogie here... Bar Staff friendly and generous, door staff friendly and inviting... A big let down on Sat 21st July 2012, the DJ was calling for requests,... We requested Adam Lambert, he said "sure, no problem" after some time of hearing no Adam, we asked him again!
The DJ felt it was acceptable to say he didn't have any Adam Lambert.... That he wasn't a fan!!! Surely asking for requests is playing what the paying patrons are fans of! Â Not an egotistical DJ??

The last stop in our mini visit to San Jose. Thinking we were going to meet up with a friend of my friend's we came to Brix. The bar was not busy at all however I think there was a b-day party going on because the supposed birthday girl was being serenaded by a drag queen. It looked like good fun but if you ask me I'd want to be straddled by a...oops forgot about who my audience is!
The bar itself is roomy with the bar being the centerpiece. Not much seating so standing around seemed to be on the menu. The energy seemed good but I bet this place is crazy on Fri and Sat nights! Oh and the bathroom was super clean too!
I could see myself coming back for sure!
Well, the staff was completely rude! We waited for our drinks for over 40 min. and the  bartender kept staring at us and going to the person who just approached the bar when we were there long before. We would try and get his attention and he just completely ignored me the whole time. I NEVER GOT MY DRINK!!! It was the rudest thing anyone has ever done! Also the music is too loud to talk to people with, but too quiet to get down... and the Djs suck! They play the played out songs for forever with lame, continuous beats that don't always flow, and once they play a good song everyone runs to the dance floor on... They change the song after like 30sec! You can literally watch the people get excited, run to the dance floor, get disappointed, and walk off the dance floor to wait 30 min for a damn drink!
GET IT TOGETHER BRIX!!!! BECAUSE YOU HAVE RUINED EVERY NIGHT I'VE GONE! SO.... SHAZAAM!

This place is apparently too good to have business!!! Music is usually too loud, with a few people standing around, charging cover even though not a lot of people are in there. I prefer going to Mac's or Renegades, no cover ever, people checking ID's are not too uptight.
All my friends had their IDs, one is apparently expired by a month, who is from the UK and clearly over 40. He just would not let him in, even though it was dead in there, lost their business again. I don't recommend this place, the "bouncer" was clearly rude about it.

It has a great floor set up, and the people are really fun and nice here. The drinks are amazing, good price too.

Brix has no lines, ever. Â Splash has lines out the door and more frustrating, up to the second level. Â I have waited twenty minutes to get into the door, then waited another twenty minutes to get upstairs (where the ONLY bathrooms are located. WINNER - BRIX
Cover:
Brix, for the most part has no cover on the weekend. Â The only time there is a $5 cover is when there are special events. Â I can appreciate that. Â Splash's cover changes, starting at $7-8 on a Friday/Saturday, then going down to $6 at 1:00am. Â WINNER - BRIX
Bartenders/Drinks:
The bartenders at Brix are fantastic. Â The know how to make a STRONG cocktail, their double's are only a dollar more. Â Most drinks max out at $7 ($8 for a double which will kick your ass). Â Splash can't make a cocktail to save their lives. Â Do yourself a favor and make them use a jigger or you WILL be shorted. It has happened every single time I have been there, I am the second most checked in person on Yelp, you do the math. Â Also, splash dupes you, charging $7.5 for a short bucket cocktail and $12-14 for a tall.

Atmosphere:
This one is a tie for me. Â Brix is comfortable, while Splash has a more SF feel. Â
Overall...can anyone guess who comes out the winner? Â Brix is by far the most superior bar in San Jose. Â If you want to get drunk, then come here. Â If you want to waste your time waiting in line, paying outrageous prices (btw. if you think I am cheap, look at the rest of my reviews...they speak for themselves), and leaving sober, then by all means go to Splash. Also, come see the cabaret show on Sundays, its a damn good time.

In high spirits, we discovered $1 drinks! Yes please! They make a delicious gimlet, but the tom collins was a tad too sweet. Bartender had a brain fart on how to make one, but for a dollar that is totally okay. Bonus: drink portions are HUGE like wtf. Okay, not HUGE but definitely more than what I had expected.
Bartender and bouncer were really friendly people. Bouncer was not afraid to get into a mini conversation with my friend about her shoes, and the bartender was attentive and really nice.
It's a really comfortable place to be. Crowd is older, but that is okay because older men and women tend to dress nicer than the younger crowd.

This was the absolute best idea for drinks just before diner. Â Brix is so chill and down to earth, for a night club, especially a gay club.
If your squeamish about two guys having drinks together, then move to a conservative state. Â Other than that... if you can handle the hard core grinding in any-given straight club, then you'll do fine with two chicks holding hands or God forbid, a peck or two!
Our bartender, Dallas, made the worlds best lemon-drop. Â Loads of sugar on the rim, just like I like it. Â And would you believe he's only been bartending for a few months.
I'm in love.
Next time I wanna get a "real drink" downtown, I'll be sure to stop by Brix!

The location is nice! There used to be a hookah bar next door, so we'd always hookah first then hop in here for some drinks. It's  pretty small inside and they have a bar right in the middle which also serves as a stage for their go-go dancers! Drinks are pretty cheap and their bartenders are pretty cool.  plus NO COVER! Another plus is that they have an outside area! If you wanna see this place "crackin" then come around midnight... It doesn't get packed till then.
Crowd's okay... It's usually the older crowd that goes here. I guess that explains why they play the kind of music they do here.

Yes, their drinks may be a bit pricey, but you need to realize you're getting an LA style pour - see how much Stoli they give you? Ok, Stoli isn't my fav, but they have many top shelf vodkas on hand. AND THEY HAVE REDBULL!
This is what a gay bar should be. Comfy, roomy, killer sound, music videos, a great patio, hard as hell drinks... and I love the fact that they have two massive pride flags hanging up too, and the front of the building is all rainbow'd out too.
Plus it's right across from a parking lot - you drunk queens that can't handle your White Russians can easily cross the street and stumble back to your fag-mobile - holla!
Brix all the way! Plus they recently started using 5 STARS - you get a FREE card, and when you buy drinks, they scan it. After 10 drinks (or so many points) YOU GET A FREE DRINK. It's also good at many eateries, cafes, patisseries around the bay area. Spend, scan and get free drinks at a totes amazing nightclub.

Dear management, we are people and have feelings too.
There are more people in Santa Clara county than SF county by almost a million but all of the LGBT continue to go to SF. This bar is that reason. Â The management of this bar has no concept of how to facilitate a proper customer relationship within the context of the 21st century. No matter how drunk and close to alcohol poisoning one may become at this bar, the bar tenders will NOT serve tap water due to the management's stringent policy. Shouldn't my five dollar cover on a Saturday provide the tap water that the bar pays a menial amount of money for? Apparently not. This is just the start of the reasons not to go to Brix. Their website is inadequate. Their drinks are mediocre at best. And their management is downright degrading to the LGBT community of Santa Clara county. The silicon valley is full of young lgbt & money, but this bar neglects that fact to the very end.
My recommendation to the LGBT of Santa Clara county: venture outward to SF, LA, Seattle, Portland, or SF. All are far superior in terms of the LGBT experience. This place is not worth your time or money.
Brix is my favorite place in town and the best gay club between San Francisco and LA! Everyone is always welcome here, the drinks are cheap (I don't know why the summary says $$), and the patrons/bartenders are wonderful. The music is often loud inside, but if you'd like to sit and talk with your friends on a weekday there's lots of seating on the back patio.
There are drink specials every night, most notably, Monday's Power Hour between 9-11pm when all well cocktails are $1! Unfortunately, this brings out a trashier crowd than is usually found here.
A public service announcement: PLEASE tip the bartender well during Power Hour. They work their asses off and the cheap jerks who flock in for the $1 deal will buy 4 cocktails, pay with a $5, and take their change. Stay home and make your own damn drink if you don't appreciate the person doing it for you!
Tuesdays are karaoke night which is always amazing in the worst way! lol Lots of gay guys come out to showcase their best Barbara ballads. Some evenings there are live drag shows and most nights there are go-go dancers on the bar. Overall, a great time for minimal cash! Straight or gay, best place in San Jose!
 A note to Stephanie W.: Yes, gay guys don't buy straight girls drinks. If you can't buy your own $3 Kamikazes, strap on your heels and strut into your favorite straight club. A skeezy dude in an Ed Hardy hat would love to buy your drink for the right to follow you around all night. (Aw man, she edited her review to take that part out! lol)
***Update: They've opened a patio bar as well as patio DJ on the busier nights and I dig it! This is the only place to dance it out on Saturday night!
$3 on a Wednesday- SERIOUSLY?! Â Who has cash in their wallets these days, and three Ones at that. That three dollars could have been used for the dancer at the bar.
There was 14 of us that wanted to dance. It was well past midnight and the joint wasn't even full. They could have gotten more out of us from drinks if we were just let in. I guess it was Single Barrel who made out like bandits after that disappointment.

My (gay) best friend and I came here on a Tuesday night to watch the karoake, which was hilarious(ly awful). The worst thing about being a straight girl in a gay bar is that, well, gay guys don't exactly buy straight girls drinks.
That's almost okay, though, because Brix's drinks aren't really worth paying for, especially with a rude bartender.
- Water: $2. Bartender told me they don't have tap water, though obviously every soda gun has the ability to spew tap water.
- Kamikaza: $3. Tuesday night's drink special, but it tasted like water.
- Sex on the Beach: $5. Also a Tuesday night special, and it tasted like juice.
- Cosmo: $EIGHT. For this tiny little glass and a drink that tasted like...wait for it... water.
Also everything was served in plastic cafeteria cups.
If not for the entertaining/horrible karaoke going on, this wouldn't even be worth one star. Yayyyyy Brix!
I'm not entirely sure where other's are going for drinks, as they call Brix expensive, but I've been all over in SF and San Jose (Gay clubs) and have noticed that Brix's prices are in-line with everywhere else.
Just about every night as some sort of special, which is very nice, especially power hour mondays!
The improved seating, and new dance area are very nice. Most people still try to dance in the back like normal, but I prefer the front since I get to avoid people stomping around.
Bartenders are a little slow. But the fact they have a 270 degree arc to deal with explains that. I've rarely seen them pour slowly as they usually pour quickly. Joe would be the best, he gets it done.
Overall, the place is great. I enjoy it!

Our plan was to go to Motif on a Sat night and sweat up a storm to trance music. Â It turned out that they were closed for a month, but as luck would have it, someone opened the door to Brix as we were walking by and the sounds of Armand van Helden came pouring out. Â OK, House it is.
I guess I missed the huge rainbow colored light above the doorway because I had no idea this was a gay club. Â As soon as I got inside, it became pretty evident, though. Â Cool! Â The girls like going to gay bars and I haven't been to one in a while, so we were pretty stoked! Â
This place is fun! They have plasma tvs all around the place playing videos of the music and dancers (one of each, male and female) dancing on the bar. Â The bar itself has a good selection of beers, mixed drinks and hard alcohol and the prices are not out of line for a club. Â The dance floor itself is not huge, so it'd pretty intimate. Â There is a pretty large indoor standing area and an outdoor courtyard smoking area.
Considering this is a gay club, there were a good number of breeders around. Â The crowd was pretty mellow, but it's definitely a party atmosphere. Â The ladies I went with appreciated the fact that the place isn't full of leg humpers, and my ass wasn't pinched once, as would be the norm in a straight club.
Overall, this is a really fun club whether you are gay or straight. Â I can't imagine how you could go to Brix and not have fun. Â I'm looking forward to the next time we go!
This is the happening hot spot for the LGBT community and their entourage! This is my go to gay bar in San Jose: Trust me, I am a gay man trapped in a straight girl's body and I certainly have my own man-tourage.
Mondays: POWER HOUR--great people and cheap well drinks after 10pm. Bartenders are super friendly and super attentive to your needs! Best part: no cover!
Tuesdays: KARAOKE NIGHT--what a crowd of fun people with all different singing abilities! Their karaoke DJ is on point and rotates songs very quickly so everyone has a chance to sing at least twice! Plus again: no cover!
One of my favorite nights is when Club Papi takes over Brix. Club Papi Latino dancers are amazing and on those nights you would get charged $5, but it's so worth it!
Only downside is that it's CASH ONLY, BUT IT'S TOTALLY "I swear to God" WORTH IT. = )
All in all if you are in need of a great place to dance and be free without the yuckyness of people in your grill, then this is the place for you!
Being in the only gay bar in Downtown San Jose (well...at least until Splash opens up again in August) it's pretty much the default place to go.
Monday - Power Hour from 10 to 11pm. Â Two drink max per person at one time. Â Might wanna down your first 2 drinks and go back for more, the wait is kinda long
Tuesday - Karaoke Night. Â Some good singers, some really bad singers, you either get a good crooner or a mini-comedy show. Â Not much of a wait on drinks.
Wednesday - Nothin special, not a lot of people. Â No wait for a bevvy.
Thursday - Kinda busy, might have to wait for a drink.
Friday & Saturday - Pretty darn busy...expect a wait in line and inside for a drink
Drinks are a little pricey, wait time for a drink kinda sucks (especially if your thirsty), and the music is hit or miss on the weekend.
If you're with a group of friends it's pretty fun. Â It does get quite warm in there.
If you don't wanna haul it all the way to the City, then go to Brix. Â It's pretty clean and people are generally friendly.
If you are scared of the GAYS then steer clear from the Brix. Â They don't mess around here, even down the management of the line! Â After a "men in uniform" auction at Kaama, I still wanted to dance. I had the symptoms of a deprived dancer. Â My pals could see that my feet were twitching with more fervor and my hips were thrusting ever so violently....
What is the cure for this illness? A night letting go listening to CeCe Peniston...yes I said Cece.
First off, there is a fire safety maximum capacity limit. On this night...if you left the club...you didn't have cutsies. Â You exit the door, then you are out, and if you want to go back in, you had to go to the back of the line and wait like everyone else.
Secondly, the club is hot. Sweaty bodies grinding with little inhibition. Â If you have space issues...stick to the outside patio.
Thirdly, don't be surprised if you see someone from your work, or your gym, or your dentists office. Who knew people moonlighted as waiters from my gym....who knew?
Finally, let the beat heat you like it was intended to. Â No need to go all crazy...but enjoy the vibe, the scene, and the people. I sure did. Â I even served as a wing woman. Â
Regardless of your preference, the Brix is a fun night club. Â Dare I say...I will be back very soon!
Yes, I briefly made an appearance here to meet Kate from Season 4 of the Bad Girls Club on Oxygen. Â I tried to get my friends to come out to actually enjoy the club but all I could get was dinner out of them. Â So I dropped in quickly. Â They were carding at the door and were asking for a $5 in cash. So I had to walk down to the hookah lounge on the same block and pay the $2.75 fee to get $20 out. Â Boo. Â I just don't learn that I should carry some cash.
I didn't really meet anyone as I was in and out in a jiffy. I stood in line for a drink and the guy in front me was obviously indecisive so he let me get in front of him. Â The bar seemed to have a lot to offer in terms of liquor. They had the full line of Stoli flavors in the middle island. Â Mirrors decorated the brick wall and most people seem to be congregating towards the back of the club. Â I then became indecisive as well and decided to get my photo with Kate and bounce. Â There were two go-go dancers in fishnets, boots and bikinis. Â I laughed when Lady Gaga was played in the short time I was there because I read the other reviews here on yelp and they prepped me that Lady Gaga songs will definitely be playing. I got my photo with Kate and left. I wish I could've given this place more of my time.
After having NO luck finding a last minute spot to watch the Super Bowl, my husband and I ended up walking past this place and noticed they had the game on and the place was completely empty aside from the bartender. We figured why not???
We were impressed with the layout, the amaretto sours were the BEST I ever had, the bartender was super nice, and the drinks were cheap! Nice simple decor and clean bathrooms. I realize most people don't come here for watching a football game as it is a nightclub, but it was a perfect last minute spot to catch the Super Bowl, and by the end of the game there was good crowd of people. The guys we chatted with were nice and we had a good time!
I would definitely go back sometime, looks like a fun place to go out and get your dance on!

So when I stumbled upon Brix for the first time last night, I was overjoyed. There was a 20 minute wait with no cover charge but we managed to forgo the line with red velvet cupcakes.
Unfortunately food is not allowed inside the nightclub, so we ate the cupcakes outside. Bummer on that. Minus one star.
The vibe, people, and music was awesome. Loved it. I have never been grabbed by so many men (wait, are you really gay) and not care. So much fun.

On a random Tuesday night, it can be hard to find something to do
around downtown San Jose. The meatmarket-y clubs are closed and the usual dives are dead. What to do, what to do? Go home?

Without her I might have likely overlooked the local gay scene! So it was off to Brix we went...
We had hoped initially that there would be some music; with any luck, enough hip-hop or R&B to dance to as we were apt to when we used to come here for Huntress Thursdays under its last namesake, Hunters [<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/hunters-nightclub-san-jose#hrid:bV1ruzQ6CNqYQpe3JY_jqw%5D">http://www.yelp.com/biz/…</a>.
What we walked into instead was karaoke night and $3 drink specials! Â As we sat there, first round of Stellas in hand, talented vocalists belted out song after song over the sound system, a wireless microphone moving throughout the bar from singer to singer, lyrics scrolling past on any one of the large flatscreen TVs overhead. Â While we went downed kamikaze shots, someone sang a selection from the musical Wicked, causing Esco and I a moment of pause as we awwwww'd the sentiment of the play. And as we sipped down a second round of Stellas we reminisced all we'd done together over John Legend's "Ordinary People".
6 drinks and $24(w/tip, cash only bar) later, we were happily faded and had done something fun and different on a Tuesday night. Plus we ended up dancing anyway, just the two of us. That's a win in my book.
Saturday.
We stopped in just before closing Saturday night after partying it up a little elsewhere. Â With just a few changes to the decor (for the better, IMO), it proved to be the same fun, good energy scene it used to be [as Hunters]; full room, lively music, a packed dance floor , a busy bar, friendly bartenders, and beautiful people. Â
New name. Â Same fun place. Â We'll be back.

However, it is highly inappropriate to play Just Dance, five times during the course of three hours in the night. We get it that, that's the subliminal point you want to get across, but you are differing from your purpose by repeating the same song.

We headed here after a birthday bash at Pearl. This was a much smaller, less full-of-themselves environment.
There were tons of neat Halloween decorations adorning the walls.
And outside there was a very cool disco ball covering everyone with bright lights. Very nice.
My friends thoroughly enjoyed themselves as did I - as much as I could for that night.
I loved being told how cute I was by this adorable gay guy. I think most people thought I was a tranny because of how tall I am though. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!)
Brix is the newest gay club (formerly Hunters) in downtown SJ. Â From the outside, you can tell by it's rainbow led lights. Â It will totally get your attention. Â Inside looks just the same as Hunters except for some slight changes with the lighting. Â The lighting will trip you out. Â They come in green and red as if it's "floating" around the room like stars in slow motion. Â The flat screens are still there though with videos playing in the background which is nice. Â Music here is usually high-energy dance pop. Â The bartenders are great, drinks are strong here. Â The male go-go dancers were entertaining as always, and the crowd here is fun. Â No matter what you are gay, straight, bi or whatever - everyone is cool here.
Outside in the patio or smoking area is chill. Â Again lots of lights. Â It would be awesome if there was a live dj out here but the music on auto was fine. Â It's definitely an area to socialize. Â Once in a while you'll see peeps dancing to music. Â If you're a non-smoker watch out cause it tends to get pretty smoky out here. Standing outside in the patio area I realized I was surrounded by bricks? Â Is that why they named it Brix?
This was the closest stop while bar hopping. Â Didn't realize it was a gay bar T_T.. (I love but the guys weren't expecting it)

Didn't stay long... $6 for 2 drinks won my vote. Â That is all.
I totally recommend this club regardless of who you are - gay, straight, undead - it doesn't matter because like AR mentioned, this mixed crowd gets along so great!
The drinks are strong and reasonably priced, especially the rum and coke. Although we were dead, this nightclub on a Wednesday night wasn't. There were enough people at the bar area, patio area and back patio area to socialize with, but it wasn't so packed that you couldn't hold a conversation with a fellow zombie.
I like this place a whole lot better than Splash for the simple fact that you can have a really great time without fear of receiving an unwanted dry hump on the dance floor.
This is a fun place to make your own night. its a very unique gay night club with a mixed crowed that gets a long really well compared to a lot of the ones around it
i never had a bad experience there yet, and i really don't expect to have any its a really clean night club that throw some pretty cool parties every weekend.
I love they dont have a cover charge and if they do its cause there is entertainment or a really big special event going on. and 5 dollars is not a big deal to pay. for those who bitch about, go take your broke ass home!
drink prices are fair, they serve you well with big portions especially for Long Island style drinks, and you can ask to get a taller glass if you like to have a nice big drink. they dont force you to drink out of small rock style glasses like some clubs do.
the size of the club is a bit tight but im sure now that the owner has it all to himself and is no longer apart of a franchise hopefully he'll do something about that giant bar. Â
the bartenders are always fun to watch running around the bar, but with everyone around it, its kinds hard to know who's next so you try to find a way around them. although i usually just end up going to the far side of the bar closest to the front door cause for some reason people forget that there is a bartender just standing there lol.
as far as the gay experience goes, i have no problem being my gay 'ole self at Brix, no one really cares or notices, its very chill very relaxed during the week and very active and lively on the weekends.
for a gay bar, if it is a gay bar, there are  females and sometimes even more than males,  and on some occasions i see a few straight couples enjoying there night which is pretty cool. I dont see it as a big deal i'd love to bring my straight friends and show them that gays party better then the straights lol.
I had to wait in line a few times but not a big deal im learning that on the busier nights its best to come in early like around 10 its not as busy.
music is good lots of pop and urban and house music. sometimes they will throw on a little old school or blast from the past kinda music and thats always fun to hear.
