Really not happy with this place. Â During the summer its fun and busy but $4 cans of miller light? Really! Â Just went for lunch during their off season which is winter and prices were still outrageous! Â My girl and I had a bowl of chili each which was bland, chicken fingers which were pre-frozen and a long island ice tea each. Â Total bill for a crappy meal... $39.00!!! Â Will Not Be Back. Â I pride myself on going to local restaurants but I've had a better meal at Outback.
Review Source:My husband and I moved down the street from the Broken Oar about 3 months ago, and we LOVE this place! We've eaten here a handful of times, and everytime we are impressed with their food.
I've tried their Jerk Chicken Sandwich, and it was amazing. Just the right amount of heat and flavor from the chicken, with a lil bit of sweetness from the pineapple to cool it down.
Their burgers are great too, and I love that they use brioche buns. Oh and their tator tots and waffle fries are yummy!
And last, but certainly not least, the Friday fish fry is out of this world. Perfectly breaded white fish that is moist and flakey.
The service is always helpful and friendly. We feel so lucky that we have this gem down the street from us, and we will continue to be regulars!
Rawson Bridge Road and the surrounding area makes for a great afternoon ride. The bars in this area are an interesting mix of cheap beer, sheltered suburbanites, weird "river folk" and hilarious incidents. We've been here when there was a genuine reggae band playing for to a slightly confused white crowd; we've seen a drunk lady puke in the river, then make out with some drunk dude and get in a boat with him.
The riverside benches are great for relaxing on a summer evening. It's great to get out of the city once in a while, and this isn't too far away.
Not much in the form of vegan food, but you can get a bucket full of fries on the cheap. The upstairs area seems to be the best bet for service and a slightly quieter environment on weekend nights.
Was there yesterday. My servers the last few times have been awesome. Though a phone call delayed my order, the staff saw when I was through and made my afternoon. It was busy, the folks were prompt and friendly. Â The food is what you would expect at a huge party stop. You go there for the atmosphere, the food is a bonus--- and good.
Review Source:No dartboard. Too bright. Expensive whiskey drinks.
Nice outdoor patio. Okay food. Ridiculous "carry out" charge to eat on the patio or bottom bar. .50 per customer!
Never any exciting crowd at night. That's a shame. Thursday nights attracts what appears to be a barely legal crowd because of their cheap drink specials.
Could definitely have a better "ambience" if they dimmed the lights a bit at least.
Have yet to go during the peak weekend "daytime" hours.
Used to be our go-to dive bar to chill & play darts but that's gone so we rarely give it a thought anymore. It's too bad being only 5 min from our house.
I would come here just to drink. The food is not good. The service needs alot of work. I don't get wait staff that walks by tables with their heads down not looking to see if people are trying to get their attention. Boggles the mind. It's fun hanging outside watching the boats going by. It is a great place to people watch.
Review Source:Well I come here often on the Boat , and in my last  review I mention the Texas Chicken was great  I have to rescind this as the last two times I ordered this  the chicken breast has shrunken  to the point its about half the size of the bread its served on  its a total rip off
But I did have breakfast there Sunday  for Fathers day  and the skillet was excellent  sitting out on the new upper deck  was great , and the staff was as friendly as can be
Thursday nights is great with $1.00 domestic drafts.
I started coming here summer of 2011 because Raging Buffalo Wakeboard school launches from the Broken Oar Marina right next door. My first impression was broken down biker bar, but the outside was nice because it's right on the Fox and there's lots of seating outdoors to enjoy nice weather and a nice view.
Since then they have added an upper deck and added on to their inside upstairs also. They've really cleaned up in a good way. The few things I've eaten are usual bar/pub fare so it's nothing off the charts, but it's yummy after a long day of wakeboarding and boating.
I love the atmosphere. That is my main reason for 5 stars. Everyone is welcome, bikers, car nerds, older people, boaters, wakeboarders, skaters..... i've seen every kind of person there. They have good live music and the people that work there are usually really nice
The atmoshere was really cool, a mixter of biker bar and river rat (in a good way). Great live music on a Saturday afternoon, the prices were good, the food was fast and also really good. The one complaint I had is that the Margareta machine ran out from a busy lunch and it took way too long to get frozen ones going again, so we didn't even get any.
Review Source:Went for lunch at about 12,30 on saturday and the place was not busy. I could really see this place getting crazy fun probably a little later in the day. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food we had was very good, we started with the barbeque quesidillas and they were cheesy and sweet with bbq sauce, tangy from the jalapenos and were pretty loaded with chicken. The wife had a burger with cheddar, bacon, bbq sauce, and onion strings. I had the cannon fire burger with jalapenos and pepper jack cheese. Her burger was a perfect medium juicy and very tasty. Mine came out a little more rare but also juicy and delicious, also they were both huge burgers. We both chose the homemade chips which were outstanding.
Review Source:After years of driving past and making mental notes to enjoy their deck on the Fox, a December visit warrants no return regardless of how enticing the deck may be come spring. Â I did not feel welcome. Â I did not enjoy the death metal music. Â I did not enjoy the bigotry that was loudly peppered throughout the conversations of others. Â The only thing I liked about this place was watching the locals coming in hot on their snowmobiles and head-to-toe snowmobiling gear. Â That was fun. Â Everything else, in short, suuuuuuuucked. Â Big time.
Review Source:If you own a bike and live within 50 miles of this place you have probably been here on a Sunday. The bikers (no colors) come from the Palatine, Barrington, Island lake, areas with their sexy ladies all in leather, The boaters with their bikini babes come from the Fox River and park at the marina. The band begins about 2:00 on the weekends and the drinks get the party started. Great people watching place. The food is hit or miss and you can't get the full menu outside. Only fatty foods outside I guess. The kitchen can be slow on the weekends. I hear that the breakfast on the weekend mornings is good. Come for the bikers, babes, and beer on Saturdays and Sundays. The bands are OK but please don't play Michael Jackson at a biker bar! Rock and Roll Heavy Metal please.
Review Source:This was our first stop in the quest to find a "NIghtlife"in and around Cary and Fox River. All in all, not a bad little joint. It was biker night and there were plenty of interesting people with interesting stories. It's casual and small, but outdoor bars make it spacious in the warmer months
What made it even more spectacular was it was $1 beer night so the place was filling up with what my lovely & talented spouse referrers to as Beer Whor...um...never mind. Anyway, that set everything up for a great evening of people watching. We had a great time, met quite a few people and enjoyed a night out for $5. Â Can't beat that!
We'll continue our quest to find this elusive "nightlife" we are hoping to find here. Until we do, this place will serve as a good fallback point.
LOVE THIS PLACE!!! My friend took me while i was visiting and i will have to say when we pulled up and i saw Harley's as far as the eye could see i was a little sceptical. Then we got to the bar. It was great! Everyone is nice, the food is great, the service is great. It's like hanging out at a back yard BBQ on the river.
Review Source:Broken Oar isn't the kind of place that's exactly my "scene," but man it's pretty fun! Â It's a popular destination for motorcyclist, vintage/muscle car enthusiasts, and boaters riding up the Fox River/Chain O'Lakes.
They serve a good Bloody Mary here, they have live music out back on weekends and girls flash their boobs from the 2nd floor windows down to the drinkers on the patio below. Â I think of the experience I have at this place as one that's as close to spring break in Florida as I ever wanna get!
Seriously though, the parking lot is a pretty cool place to be on a nice day- lots of great vehicles to check out in a pretty friendly scene. Â The area's a good gateway to some country driving/riding too.
