Bomb wings. The sauce stokes just the right amount of fire in my tongue pit and the crisp on the skin is palpable. It's no Duff's, but hot dam - them's some fine poultry appendages.
The atmos is confused, to say the least. It's like Cheers if everyone in Cheers died. Clever artwork on the bathroom and kitchen doors, dark dark dark (like tripping over the coffee table feeling around for a light switch dark) interior merrily brightened by free peanuts (shell the floors) and popcorn (don't spit the hulls). There's one dude at the beer that's been since opening, and you know will be sucking on the mop at close, while Grammy and Gramps gum some beef on weck a booth over. Muted TVs in the dining room, so nobody at your table will have an excuse to converse.
Beer selection is otay, but I'll echo a few Yelpers sentiments - clean your tap lines! There was some funk at the end of the house brown and no brown, house or not, should end in funk.
The BoW is cut waaaaay too thick. Four chapters of A Wrinkle In Time thick. More flavorful than the disaster of a beef experienced at my other Buffalo pub this trip (*cough*Brennan's*cough*) and on a heartier roll, yet the potential drops exponentially when each slice is Number 2 pencil thick.
Snarky service. We loved that part.
My friends and I head here a lot for a later dinner or if we just want some good old bad-for-you pub food. Â I have been going here since I moved to Buffalo between going to the bar and eating in and I have always come away satisfied.
Can't beat the free popcorn and peanuts (and shells thrown on the floor). Â They have a good selection of brews. Nothing too out there and it seems like the last few times I have been there, the one beer I order has been out, but I appreciate that they frequently change it up. Though I wanted to smack someone after I saw a waitress with two of those aluminum bottles of Coors Light being delivered to their table, really?
All the food I have gotten here has been fresh and tasty. Â I do not know what the deal is with some people getting "jellyfied" wings. I was just there after 10pm recently and we got an order of Medium wings and they were right out of the frier, crispy, and sauced. Too hot to handle at first! Had the spinach & artichoke dip for the first time and it was flavorful and plentiful, but was just served with generic round industrial tortilla chips. We always get the onion rings and they are very tasty. Â Other favorites include the pizzas. I got the Philly steak one before Christmas. Excellent flavor that was more than just some steak and cheese thrown on a flatbread. Â I took the leftovers to my parents and my dad gobbled them up! Â Also the burgers (black and blue, bacon cheeseburgers) are very good.
Service is usually pretty good. Â When it gets to be later, it can get a little slower (we waited a good 10 minutes until our waiter came back to get our cards to pay at 11:30), but everyone is friendly and accommodating. Lots of TVs around so if you want to catch the game, or many different ones, you can. In the same vein, it isn't so overwhelming that you are distracted from interacting with your dining companions.
In comparison to some of the places with a similar menu and atmosphere in the area, BBP comes ahead for me. Â Decent prices, good food, nice atmosphere.
I always enjoy going to the Brew Pub. The beer selection is very good for the area. Their own brew is consistently great and I make an effort to try each of their various brews. Beyond their own beer they also have an impressive collection of draft choices.
I usually only go there for the bar, but I have had food there before. Their burger is good as well as their chicken wing soup. I have heard good things about other menu items as well.
The free popcorn and peanuts are a fantastic plus. I could live on popcorn alone so I certainly abuse the free self-service all night long. Finally, worth noting is that they have two free dart boards. Seems simple but as a group we have sunk $10 or more in the pay-to-play darts at places like WIld Wings so having some free boards is a great touch.
Overall the Brew Pub regularly enters into our rotation of bars to frequent. It is always a good time I am always satisfied with the night.
For me, the Buffalo Brew Pub is the epitome of a three-star establishment: not fantastic by any stretch of the word, but not close to horrible, either.
I went yesterday as part of a party of six. The place is very "woody" with something of a log-cabin interior. Free popcorn and peanuts were on tap, and shells covered the (somewhat lumpy) floor.
It was pretty busy, but we were seated quickly, and our drinks were taken soon after. Beer selection was decent, with a fair amount of brews from local/independent breweries. I didn't try any of the BBP-brews, however. I rested on my favorite, Shock Top.
Menu-wise, there was nothing extraordinary jumping from the pages-- it's all your standard pub-fare. My girlfriend and I decided on a double order of wings and the pub fries with gravy.
Wings were crispy and saucy (1/2 medium, 1/2 cajun). Cajun seasoning was blended nicely with the wings, as well. Although the wings were good, we could have ordered them from a number of places and the taste would have been the same....try breading your wings, dang it (haha)! The pub fries were pub fries, cooked well and tasty. I don't really care for gravy in general, so I can't comment much on that.
All told, the BBP isn't necessarily a place I'd name immediately when asked where I'd want to go eat. There are plenty of similar places in the area that offer either a bit more charm, a better beer selection, or some sort of exclusive menu item for which they are known.
However, if someone else recommended we go to the BBP, I definitely wouldn't whine or complain.
Like I said in the beginning of my review: not horrible, not amazing...just plain ol' "good."
Brewpub is a solid place if you're looking for some pub grub, fried food, a beer, and free peanuts and popcorn. NOT the best place if you're looking for a healthy balanced meal! But after work drinks in an easy to find location, generally central to lots of main office drags? You got it.
For the beer drinkers out there, they have a great program where you earn "stamps" (or it may be signatures now) towards having a custom glass made for you (with a name or nickname of your choosing!), which is kept on the premises for each of your visits. This is a great way to reward regulars and really makes you feel special. I was happy to hear at our last visit that our pregnant friend could pull up her previously earned glass and fill it with rootbeer to prevent it from being retired - which happens if the glass goes dormant and unused for too long.
A great stop for happy hour or late night drinks - real darts, all you can handle free salty snacks, and an extensive draft/bottle list to make every beer palate happy.
I've been a few times for lunch and the service is nice and speedy to keep you under that 1 hour limit. The food on the menu, while not the healthiest of selections, is delicious and I've never had a complaint. You'll especially like anything with "Buffalo" in the name.
The atmosphere of the Buffalo Brewpub is pretty typical of a pub. It is dimly lit and the tables are crowded. What you will find is that there are peanut shells on the floor, but in my opinion, that is not surprising at a pub as people will eat peanuts and throw the shells on the ground - it's really part of the whole experience. They also have complimentary popcorn which was a pleasant surprise too.
As for the food, I got a fish fry and I was impressed by the food that was brought out. The macaroni salad and potato salad that came with my fish fry were pretty delicious and came out in generous portions. The fish fry itself was pretty good as well.
All in all, the experience was good and I would go back. If you don't like a cramped intimate environment and are a stickler for a spotless place to eat though, this place may not be for you.
The beer selection is great. Â However the service and cleanliness is sub-par. Â I ordered a Dog Fish Head 60 minute IPA ( normally thrilled to have) and it taste like a coffee stout. Â Clearly their lines need to be cleaned. The "manager" Â served my husband and I our first beer and was far to busy flirting with his staff to care about us. Â Likewise on our way out, he paid no attention as we made eye contact as he was flirting with his teenage hostess. Â blahh. Â We have made our way from northern california to buffalo stopping every evening to taste the best of the local brew and this place left little to be desired. Â I'll take the brewery in Des Moines "Exile Brewery!"
Review Source:My husband and I did a casual search of "brew pubs" before we headed to Niagra Falls from Buffalo and found this gem. The Buffalo Brew Pub was nice and clean and even though we went for lunch and didn't get to throw peanuts on the floor, we had great wings. Â The beer list was amazing too. Â We would come back here again for sure.
FYI: Â We later went to the Anchor Bar for "the best wings" and they were NOTHING compared to the wings we had here.
I like to drink beer here. This time was family and food though. Hostess was pleasant and sat us as quickly as she had promised to (important when dining with a 3yr old). Our waitress came quickly and was an all around pleasure to have serve us. We started with the Brew City Fries but added cheese and gravy, a phenomenal choice! They loaded up the cheese, added a healthy (heh) portion of gravy, THEN gave us extra gravy in the side. Wowee. I ordered the Shepherds Pie with cheese and substituted the salad for French Onion, kid got a hot dog, and husband got the Buffalo Sampler Platter. French Onion- great flavor but would have like the cheese baked more, i like it browned and bubbled, not just melted. Shepherds Pie- good but had some strange (to me) additions like red peppers, not my favorite SP and if I'm going to pay a dollar for cheese in the top I'd like a little more than the sprinkle I got. Mashers were really tasty and there was plenty in the dish to fill you up. Kids Hot Dog- kid loved it and it didn't come out steaming hot, so she could eat it right away- perfect enough for me (I didn't sample a bite). Buffalo Sample- husband said the wings were good, but the Beef on Weck wasn't  his favorite, not bad but not the best. Overall we really enjoyed our night there and will defiantly be back.
Review Source:I went here during Christmas time last year (2011) with my friends from work at the time. It was fairly packed on a Friday Happy Hour, which is to be expected. We didn't eat at all but had a few drinks. The bartender's were fairly nice and the prices weren't too expensive, I've seen worst. I would like to come here for food whenever I am back in Buffalo again. I will update my review when I do!
Review Source:Went here for my Mom's birthday and was pleasantly surprised by the many draft beers available and the friendly service staff. Â We were told that it would be 10 minutes for a table (walk in) and it ended up taking closer to 15-20, but that's because the table we were waiting for decided to stick around and chat. Â
The food is great, although it doesn't seem like there is too many "healthy" options on the menu. Â That's OK with me because when I eat out I indulge, but worth pointing out. Â
All in all I just love throwing peanuts on the floor! Â Free peanuts and popcorn while you wait for tables/beer/food is always a pleasure. Â They also make some wonderful soup's. Â I had the Philly Cheese Steak Soup and it was UGHMAZING!
Will be back.
Service was great, like other reviews the peanuts & popcorn was diesel but my husbands wings we're undercooked ...so I know your thinking long islanders what would they know but my husbands stay at Buffalo state might give so street cred. Otherwise our other food was great. I HIGHLY recommend the chicken wing soup best thing we had.
Review Source:It was decent. Their vanilla house draft was good but the meal was decent. I got the Southwestern Burger which was good sized but to make up for that I only got four fries. It was grossly disproportional IMO. Also despite ordering the burger medium it was well done. Overall the food was fair but the beer must be the selling point. It was better but not fantastic. I would recommend but only if you've had everything else in the area and want to drink beer rather than eat.
Review Source:What was once the Buffalo Brewpub, quickly became the Buffalo "boo-pub" when they recently gave me jellified lukewarm microwaved wings, nothing like the crispy deliciousness they usually provide.
As you can see from my old review, this place had some of the best wings in town, but now a couple of times I have gone there and they have clearly been microwaved (jelly-like) and reheated wings, especially for this price ($10 for a single), is disgusting and ridiculous so this place loses a star for that massive fail. They still have amazing wings but I don't want to go in there and have to cross my fingers that they're going to be fresh instead of microwaved and squidgy and jelly like.
Great pub.
More than 20 beers available on tap. 4 made by the brew pub, most of the rest microbrews. A nice spectrum of styles so almost any person can find at least a few they like. The maibock made by the brewery had a nice flavor. Other microbrew menu changes.
The wings were juicy with a light crisp and were moderately saucy. Very tasty. So far, the best we have had in Buffalo (3 places tried so far).
The free peanuts (shells to floor) and popcorn make it fun.
Brew Pub is one of those places you can visit during the day for a hearty meal or stop in at night to sample one of their many beers on tap. The food is solid but the real charm of Brew Pub is their beer selection.
With over 25 beers on tap, you'll be sure to find something you like. From IPAs to Hefeweizens, Brew Pub has you covered. The atmosphere is jovial at night, yet not so loud you can't carry on a conversation. The bar also has multiple flat screens for the sports lovers out there.
What really brings me to Brew Pub for drinks though is the two real dartboards they have, both free of charge. While other bars have the cheap, plastic, coin-operated dartboards, Brew Pub has authentic pub style boards for all to use.
Whether you're looking for a restaurant with solid food or a bar with a great selection, you can't go wrong with Buffalo Brew Pub.
I went to check this place out since it was one of the few spots out near the airport that had more than a handful of Yelp reviews. Â The atmosphere is definitely more restaurant than bar, but I came to eat so that wasn't a problem. Â Staff was friendly but a bit scattered. Â I would call the service acceptable but nothing more. Â While I love beer more than most I'm always a little disappointed when the beer list is the best part of the meal. Â I started with a bland side salad that may have come out of a bag. Â I ordered the south western burger, and while it was big it was very average on taste and cooked well short of medium. Â The food was acceptable and reasonably priced but don't go with high expectations.
Review Source:Casual bar food. Â Love it. Â I heard a rumour that some of their food is frozen/prepackaged, but my Bacon Avacado Turkey Burger certainly did not appear or taste that way. Â All coworkers (there were 7 of us) reported that their meal was fantastic too, so...
Love the Beriodic Table on their beer menu:

Very helpful in helping a novice select a beer they'll actually want to drink. Â I had the Great Lakes Conway's Irish Ale & loved it! Â Service was good. Â I've never had a bad meal or bad beer here, and I often take out of town guests here for an authentic & GOOD Taste of B-Lo.
Free popcorn and peanuts AND you can throw your peanut shells on the floor! YAY reminds me of Roadhouse Grill (RIP on Transit). I would have given BBP 4 stars IF they hadn't ran out of like 123128093 beers! One of them being Labatt Blue! I get that it's Canadian..but this is Buffalo! We're practically Canadian, aye?
So fine, you ran out of Labatt Blue. How about Sam Adams Winter? No can do! This happened with a couple of more beers that I don't remember. Point is, this is a beer joint and it sucks to have decided on a beer from their relatively extensive menu and then having them not being able to serve it because they ran out!
I've been to the Brew Pub a few times and every time I have a 3 star experience. The most recent time, I ordered a oatmeal stout and a pulled pork sandwich. I was sad to learn they no longer have the stout, so I ended up with one of their other house beers, it was not memorable as I can't remember what it was. I could tell the pulled pork sandwich came from a sysco can, so it was nothing special. My friend did like his burger. Parking can be a pain but I do like the popcorn, peanuts and beer selection. I'll go here again for beers but not for food.
Review Source:Ah, the old Melonie's gone brew pub.
We had very slow service when we were there and it was about 2/3 busy, Someone had the fried bologna and someone had the wings and there was a burger involved. We were pretty much in agreement that it was all pretty average. Not sure why it gets so crowded and parking becomes challenging.
I'm being nice. Â This is more of a 3 1/2 star review. Â Why not bump it up to 4 though...because the service was good. Â I stopped in for a quick beer and some food. Â The place is dark- I like that when I drink... there was free popcorn and peanuts in in the back to "help yourself" to-- another plus, and they had buffalo wings. Â Considering I was in Buffalo this is where the other plus came in. Â
Beer was good, they had a double IPA on tap (Maybe they do deserve their full 4 stars) Â got my wings hot, and they lived up to their spicy-ness. Â
Good spot for a quick run in, I wouldn't stay all night... especially if you are stumbling out after too much to drink.... you might slip on a peanut shell-- they are scattered all over the floor. Â DON'T SLIP!
Go for the beer, stay for the dinner. Â I don't remember the dinner being anything spectacular (and this is not the fault of the beer), but I do remember that the menu has good variety and that we were all happy with what we ordered. Â The wings in particular were good.
More importantly, they have a lot of beer on tap. Â They will do small beers, but not flights. Â I can't remember what size they were, just that they were smaller than half pints and totally manageable if you want to try 4-6 beers in one night and still drive home after dinner.
I would recommend this place if you're in the area. Â It's also got a nice ambience. Â It was crowded, but we had reservations and enjoyed the 15 minutes or so while we were waiting in the bar for them to put together tables.
3 stars? Really people? For fresh, tasty food - that is, I might add, at a reasonable price - and a lengthy and eclectic beer list, Buffalo Brew Pub is a great choice. Having visited there on two separate occasions for two different meals, I can safely say that their wings are good and their salads fresh and tasty. Plus, they didn't think I was bonkers for ordering honey mustard dressing on the side of a Greek salad. What can I say? I like shaking it up a a bit.
The vibe isn't exactly downtown, but if you're after *that* well, the city and Elwood are very near. For a quick bite, great beer and non-scary food, Buffalo Brew Pub is pretty freaking fabulous. So there.
I am saddened to see that my old hang out only received 3-4 stars. I loved this place. I used to be quite a regular when I lived in Buffalo. Actually, this place was right down the road from my former employer so we used to call it "Conference Room One" and would meet there at least once or twice a week (as needed - wink ;) a week for our "staff meetings".
I love the homemade beers and over Christmas I had to go back and give my mug a spin (if you don't know about the mug club you need to ask). The "Kringle Lager" is so smooth and only available seasonally. I made my brother try it and he loved it too.
I think where they now fall short is their service isn't what it used to be. I always sat at the bar but over Christmas my brother and I got a table in the dining room and the service took forever. The food was as good as I remember. But our loaded nachos and panini took over an hour and if I wasn't already busy with my Kringle and peanuts (they give you complimentary peanuts and fresh popped pop corn) I probably would have been upset but truth is by the time the food came I was already full.
I hope they can get the service issue resolved because this is a great place. I used to be a regular and they really take care of their regulars.
The Buffalo Brewpub is a local favorite for a lot of reasons that have established its long tradition:
1. Always 5 home brewed beers always on tap - I think these are pretty good. For my palate, they taste a little too unrefined. They are extremely fresh, though, so I will make this a question of my own personal taste.
2. Lots of other taps featuring microbrews, local beers, and European beers. there's something for everyone, even if Blue is your go-to. I took advantage of the Flying Bison Rusty Chain on draft last night.
3. Self-serve Popcorn and Peanuts in large supply! You can throw the shells on the floor.
4. Real cork dart boards and a league
5. An excellent mug club: after 20 beers, you get a mug with your name on it behind the bar. It's yours only to use and you can buy it if you want.
6. A great annual Oktoberfest.
7. Lots of hardwood, a large bar with a few TVs, and a fireplace for chilly nights.
8. Good pub fare, which is as good as anywhere.
9. Ring-hook challenge, which I've overcome.
10. Since college, Brewpub has been the traditional spot for my friends to meet and catch up. Most of us lived in Williamsville so it was always the best place within reach. I live in the city now, but have recently re-established the Brewpub tradition with a few friends. This will always be a place close to my heart, and has the atmosphere to be the same for you.
Really attractive bar area, wide variety of house made beer available. Serves all of Buffalo's classic meal options including chicken wings and beef on weck.
The crowd is usually middle aged, buisness or local type people. Â Place gets pretty packed on the weekends, but during the week can be a quiet place to go have a drink with a friend. Although there are peanut shells scattered on the floor (from peanuts offered on either side of the bar), the Brew Pub, I think, is a classy bar for those looking for laid back, clean, and comfortable.
Go to the Pub and drink Beer. :)
This was my first time visiting Buffalo Brewpub. Â My wife and I visited between lunch and dinner and found the restaurant mostly empty with peanut husks scattered about under tables. Â Since we saw no signs of peanuts, nor were offered any peanuts, it seemed like a gimmick to add some sort of atmosphere. Â It also seemed unclean having the husks under our feet as we slid into our booth.
The waitress was extremely friendly and helpful throughout our visit. Â I started with a course of the four house-brewed beers. Â All were disappointing to me. Â The Amber Ale was the most drinkable of the four.
The house salad was pretty lame, containing iceberg lettuce, tomatoes and red onion. Â The blue cheese dressing was all liquid and had no chunks of cheese. Â The tomatoes in the salad were sliced and looked exactly like those on the burger--making us wonder if the kitchen had a bucket of sliced tomatoes that were used for all dishes. Â The main course dishes (black and blue burger and tuna melt) were decent.
The music being played during this time was awful. Â I think it was music (love songs) from the 1970s. Â In my opinion, these tunes were bad three decades ago and are no better now. Â Thinking back, I wonder if the restaurant plays such music to keep customers away during the pre-dinner time to give the staff time to cleanup all the peanut husks.
On our way out I noticed that the restaurant did have some other local beers on tap. Â I strongly recommend trying those beers over the house beers. Â We also noticed that peanuts and popcorn are available near the back of the restaurant (near the restrooms). Â Too bad the hostess didn't mention that when we were seated.
I took Rich's advice and went back to the Brew Pub for dinner Saturday night. Â Previously, I had only had one of their winter home brews, and it was very disappointing.
I asked the server for a sample of each of their home brews. Â I tried the Pilsner, Buffalo Lager, Red Ale, Oatmeal Stout, and Amber Ale. Â I enjoyed the sample of each of them. Â They were much better than the home brew I had last time I was there.
The food was much worse than the last time I was there. Â I tried the special prime rib. Â It was okay, but the sides were terrible, frozen vegetables and lumpy mashed potatoes. Â The soups were also disappointing, brew pub chowder and the french onion. Â The most disappointing part was the chop salad. Â It was covered in way too much dressing, and the greens seemed to be a few days too old.
I am not changing my score, because this time the food was the disappointment. Â This is a place for beer and bar food (wings, cheese fries, sandwiches). Â I wish they would make the menu smaller, and improve the quality of the fewer dishes.
I think this place has a great beer selection, and intelligent barbacks to help answer your questions (dont ask your waitresses about beer , ask them about the food!).
Its not hoity toity and won't make you feel like you should pay 80.00 a person, its on the cheaper end and the bar has peanuts you can toss on the floor so if your allergic beware..
But its an awesome place to meet up with friends and grab a beer or some wings (or both) and have a good time with popcorn and peanuts and laughs. It doesnt pretend to be pretentious and so don't expect that.
Expect a warm good ole time.. you should be like that when your in Buffalo anyway,, its how we are!
I like beer. I'm back in Buffalo. Â What better place to go than Buffalo Brew Pub, right? Â Well, based on my first experience, I wasn't overly impressed. Â But I'd be willing to go back and try again sometime.
I ordered the Buffalo Lager and Buffalo Burger, just because I was going for a theme here. Â The husband ordered wings and a Kringle Beer. Â I was more impressed with his selections than my own. Â The wings were big, crispy on the outside and meaty/juicy on the inside. Â The sauce was perfect. Â The Kringle, despite being described as having a rich malt flavor with an aggressive hoppy finish, was not hoppy at all. Â It was, however, smooth and delicious. Â The Lager was okay. Â The buffalo burger tasted like beef, was rather thin and had no zazz. Â I've never had buffalo before, and based on this experience, I wouldn't have it again.
I felt a bit hurried while we were there. Â Granted, it was Xmas eve, but it was 5 PM. Â The experience wasn't awful, but it definitely wasn't as good as I was hoping for.
Hmmm. Â Not only do I NOT think their home brew is swill, I would rate their microbrewed Octoberfest beer as one of my all-time favorites. Â At the risk of being branded a beer snob (I've been to many of the highest-rated microbreweries and bars in the country, and beyond), I respectfully submit that those who label BBP's offerings swill are perhaps the same people who prefer Coors Light or Bud (possibly even in a can).
Their draft selection has roughly twenty high quality offerings (possibly more) from a variety of countries/regions and constituting a wide range of styles (pilsner, lager, stout, ale, etc). Â Honestly, how could a genuine beer lover/enthusiast not love this place? Â I'm perplexed by the negative reviews.
Their food is adequate. Â Their wings are marginally better than average. Â Their soups are serviceable. Â The peanuts and popcorn snacks are a nice touch. Â I suppose their TV placement could be better, but I say this place rates solid 4 for beers and a 2.5 for food. Â
So, yeah, I'm a fan. Â But then, I also have a BBP growler that I regularly get filled when I'm in town.
NOT A BIG FAN.
I have been twice, and dined twice. Â Can't say I will recommend Brew Pub. Â They have TV's in cheesy locations. Â They have outdated decor which does not make it more "nostalgic".
I have had better at many places in the Buffalo area. Â I have had a better dining experience sitting at my coffee table. Â
Wings = not very good. Â Prices = Meh.....
Service poor. Â Restaurant not very clean. Â Food quality average.
This place is a classic, and is in fact the very first brew pub in New York state. Â They offer a big selection of home brewed beer, along with bottled beer and hard cider. Â The menu is extensive, nothing fancy, but lots of good, well-priced bar food is up for order. Â You'll want to grab a table, fetch yorself a basket of fresh-popped popcorn and peanuts and hang out for a while.
