A good place to chill if you have time to blow. We visit often and from our experience a moderate hour to hour and a half dining experience are to be expected. They have a great selection of original and traditional dishes at decent prices. The service is friendly but slow

Good food. Went there for breakfast one day, happy hour another. The service was great and breakfast was good. Food during happy was average and the drinks were reasonably priced. Would go back, but wouldn't go out of my way.

I meet a buddy here once every couple of months for breakfast. Good selection of breakfast items. Biscuits and gravy this time. Get the half order as it is plenty. If you are an egg eater, they have a good selection of omelletes and scrambles

I live around the corner from here so I have had a fair sampling of the menu. They used to be a primo breakfast spot but lately it seems the quality and service has been sliding. We had a damn near un-eatable breakfast about a week go and the bill was pretty high. I dont mind spending a few bucks but for the price I want a damn good meal.
I did not get that. My corn beef hash seemed to be made from the meat you by at Winco for $2 for 2 lbs. My wife's omelet was actually burned on one side, and they served it to us anyway. Yes, they were very busy. That is no excuse for cruddy food, or the bad service.
Sure, its still a good spot for drinks and a few snacks but it will be a while before I consider them for a sit down meal again.

Love the breakfast options! Usually good, reliable service, although during the last visit, we must have waited an hour for our food. All previous visits were MUCH more pleasant.

Looks can be deceiving in the case of the Buffalo Gap. While you can tell it's a bar (by the beer and booze ads out front), you would have no idea how large the place is, until stepping inside.
For starters, this is a great place to see live music venues. From the outside, one would never guess they have room enough upstairs for intimate music venues. Or that they have an outdoor patio up top. I've been to several concerts here and because of the size, you will get a good seat, regardless of which table or bar stool you get.
If you aren't there for music, they have 2 rooms of seating, where they play sporting events and a back room with 2 pool tables and video games.
Not only is their bar food really good, but they have happy hour 7 days a week! I'm biased and prefer their corn dogs, teriyaki meatballs and nachos. I'm told their breakfast is great as well.
They also have a private parking lot. If that's full, there's also plenty of safe street parking.
This place is definitely worth checking out, for no other reason than to grab a beer and share a nacho to check out the scene.

An amazing experience for renting out space for an event! The manager, Troy communicated event information clearly and worked with my needs to accommodate my party and guests! We ordered the pizza package and it was more than enough food for 25 people! It included 6 giant pizzas, a hummus veggie platter, 75 wings, Caesar salad! I was afraid there wasn't going to be enough food so I ordered pinwheel wraps as well. But I was wrong because there was a lot of leftovers. The game room held 25 people comfortably with multiple spots to watch the game and plenty of things to do. 3 pool tables, the big buck hunter, the golf game, a juke box and some video poker. Our 1 waitress, Whitney was a super waitress! She took care of everyone quickly and kindly. She really made our party comfortable! We are happy to host our event at Buffalo Gap in the future!

Very cool bar and a great place to watch football. I just moved to Portland and am a life long Chicago Bears fan. The local Bears fans meet upstairs for every game and it is a fun time. Food is good too!

Buffalo Gap plays host to The Chicago Bears fan club and I love them for that! Once a week during football season we get together in the upstairs room, hoot and holler and cheer on our team! The beer is cold and cheap, the televisions and the sound are great and, most importantly, they have vegan options! They have a vegan burger, tofu tacos and a veggie/hummus sandwich (hold the cheese).

I always end up there for morning games, so the only item I've had was a tofu scramble. It's not on the menu, but the waitress and chef were kind enough to make it happen so I didn't continue to drink before noon on an empty stomach. And it was a damn good tofu scramble - better than most vegan restaurants!

My only complaint is it gets packed up there for games and there isn't enough wait staff. It becomes quite a challenge to place an order, get a beer or pay your bill. I don't want to be focused on hunting down a server when I'm trying to watch Julius Peppers sack Michael Vick, ya' know?

GO BEARS!

Local pub, it was ok, great service. Food was nothing to rave about. Just did lunch & drinks at this place, probably won't visit again, just didn't impress me. Might be different at night when there's more business in there. Don't order the Mediterrean Pasta or sliders, it was flavorless.

My husband and I rented the entire upstairs to hold an after party for our wedding. After looking all over town, we decided the the Buffalo Gap was the way to go. Reasonably priced, many food options for big group, super accommodating, and we got our own floor! There were two rooms- one large and one small. You also get a private bar, private bathrooms, and a private patio! No smoking on the patio, which I like, but smokers can just go down the stairs from the private patio to smoke. No need to go out the regular entrance.

From the beginning, Troy (I believe he's the owner) was so friendly and great at answering my questions. Not the case with several other venues I contacted...He helped me put together everything, offering choices to accommodate several diet restrictions, how we wanted to run the bar tab, etc. He also helped coordinate with our baker who delivered a cake and our coordinator who came early to set up everything. He even allowed me to create my own cocktail list.

Which leads me to the next part- Hannah and Megan were our bartenders, and they were awesome! They had to learn a whole new drink menu, and serve around 45 guests who were all ready to party! ;) They kept us all in drinks and were fun and easy going. After the party wrapped up and they were off, a few of us continued the party downstairs. Hannah found me down there and bought me a shot and we did a celebratory wedding shot together. See how great they are there?! Go now, and get some pizza and a cocktail. Or better yet, have a big party!

This is a good go-to spot for a nice neighborhood bar. For an area that is a little more sleepy than the regular inner-Portland areas, this bar has a lot to offer. There's a huge menu full of all the bar food you could ever imagine. I can't give it 4 stars for a restaurant, but I could for a late night bar spot. Lots of TVs to watch games, and overall an enjoyable atmosphere. Late night happy hour is pretty solid.

Great food, when it came. The service was a little slow, but the waitress apologized, which, in my experience, is a good thing. I much prefer a kindly, apologetic, server than a contrary, arrogant one.

I ordered the Wild Boar Burger, Sweet Potato Fries, and an IPA (which, for the life of me, I cannot remember). The only memorable piece was the burger, everything else was "meh".

I loved the joint though, fun atmosphere. A little dark, but I guess that's the feel. Definitely eclectic in some senses and very friendly people.

I don't think they're shooting for a 5 star joint, but if the tavern-esque pub feel is what they're going for, they're spot on!

Apparently, I need to try the pizza...

The name of the restaurant pretty much says it all- its a saloon, however its not TOO country. Drinks were fairly priced, and the food was really good!! Our server was very attentive, which is a great since we had a party that constantly changed its headcount. And we even re-located on her since our party got to be too large for our initial spot.

Buffalo has a nice pool table room, too. Three tables, with plenty of room for them. My biggest peeve is when you have pool tables that are too close together, and you get stabbed with sticks every which way.

The upstairs section had live music!

Overall, A+

Pretty cool SW spot.
Good variety of Saloon food.
Nothing too special.

Burger was decent.
Chili was cold.

They have music and good drinks.
Service is also good.
Nice local place for some music/late night eats.

We went there for a reason, to hear Throwback Suburbia play live. I thought it would be a perfect way to review another restaurant, we have gone ONCE before, from hubby's recommendation - from someone @ work.

It was well maintained establishment. "The restroom were extremely clean - the men'" hubby told me, but not the women's. The linoleum floor have couple holes in them, they looked like they need to update, the whole bathroom NEEDS updating!. They have live music every night playing upstairs, except Sunday. So, enjoy your food & get a free VERY CLOSE-UP concert too! Plenty of free parking on the back.

I asked the waitress, if I could substitute my cole slaw for salad, and she did. My sweet potato fries were also good. My ribs was excellent, so tender! Hubby's dinner was Sirloin Steak & Shrimp, steamed yellow & green zucchini with broccoli. He didn't finish his, and I wanted to take them home, but the waitress took them away before he had a time to ask for a box. He was so into listening to Throwback! We could have stayed until midnight, but sorry, we had a long day - but we both enjoyed the evening!

I wasn't that pleased with the Chocolate Fix.

In the heart of Southwest Portland, there lies a mythical neighborhood known to many as John's Landing. The Landing is full of history, mystery, and intrigue. Today we visit a humble building near its southern boundary. The Buffalo Gap.

If this saloon and eatery were located in one of the other trendier neighborhoods found across the river, my review would be lost in a sea of stars. But I for one, am thankful it is not. Without pretension this establishment produces stiff drinks, and belly warming food with ease and clip. But today I am struck, as I have been many times before by the house made cinnamon rolls. A meal in itself, this behemoth of glutenous delight layered with sultry sticky cinnamon, is topped not only with a healthy portion of frosting, but an even healthier portion of bacon. To say that I think about the moment of slicing into this and raising it to my mouth with the same passionate intensity that is often reserved for thoughts of coital bliss, would only be a slight overstatement.

If you come for nothing else, visit the Buffalo Gap and the quiet neighborhood of John's Landing for the Cinnamon Roll. But please leave any attitude or presumptions at home, as even the space in front of and around the door is reserved for laughter, and music streaming from the Attic.

Looking at these reviews I am really surprised that I don't see more 5 stars for the Buffalo Gap!! This building has so much history (apparently like 80 years ago it was a brothel!) and it is just such a cool place.

I used to frequent this place for many reasons, good drinks, awesome food, good music, a great pool room, and taco tuesdays! I don't know if they still do taco Tuesdays, but I hope so!

More importantly, the Buffalo Gap serves some of the best breakfast I've had anywhere in Portland. I've had some damn good breakfast around town, but the Gap just might take my #1 spot of all time. "The Cure" probably my favorite on the breakfast menu, is to-friggin-die-for! Leon's Omelete, the Big Ole Biscuit Bowl, the Biscuits & Gravy... Its allllllll good yo! Never had a bad meal at BG and I've eaten there probably 100 times (used to live up the street). They have some unique dishes on their menu, both breakfast and dinner, that's what I love about BG.

They also have a lot of TV's and makes it good to watch games there, they used to have $5 bud light pitchers during Seahawks games, which is unexplainably awesome, as well as $3 mimosa's on Sundays when you go in for breakfast and are super hungover.

My friends and I used to always run into Ken Bodie (local news guy, channel 6 i think) puffing cigs playing video poker there, he's a really nice guy though! Don't judge!

Still very much enjoy the Buffalo Gap. The food is good, HH prices fair, plenty of live music in the evenings, sports watching, and pool! Drinks are a bit spendy and unfortunately no deals during HH.

Yesterday had the 2 tacos (fish) and Hummus plate. Overall good food. Fish tasted slightly salty and hummus a bit runny. Haven't had this issue before. New ingredients?

My one thing to say about the experience last night...and reasoning for less stars is the service. Did we come at the wrong time? The bartender was our waitress. We were seated at a table right near the bar. The first 45-hour of service was fine. Never got water but the drinks/food came out promptly and we were checked on every 20 min or so. After an hour ordered one last beer and never saw the waitress again. Never checked on, never asked if we wanted any more food or drinks....nothing. We sat for quite some time, tried to make eye contact and still nothing. With our drinks finished we were nearly about to get up and leave. We had to ask another waitress if we could get our check. Overall time spent there was 2 hours....we were finished after one. How frustrating. Did I mention it wasn't entirely busy either?

While on the quest for a sports bar to eat chicken wings (see other reviews), and to watch the Rose Bowl on January 2nd, the boy and I decided to come here. We arrived only about 15 minutes before the start of the game, and even though it was busy, we were lucky enough to find our own booth, in a cozy little section of the restaurant.

The place was warm and inviting with a lot of nooks and crannies, and meandering rooms. Decorated with farm-style touches. The menu was extensive with traditional bar like options. We decided on the chicken wings of course. We were lucky it was 30-cent wing day too (Which is every Monday night apparently), and got them the "Gap-Daddy" way. There were plenty of sauce options, but seeing as I prefer my wings spicy, this was a good way to go. It had a good flavor of Tabasco in the sauce. The wings were kind of small (but I am not complaining as they were only 30-cents a piece!) and crunchy. You can choose between the traditional wings, or drumsticks with this option. Definitely not enough celery on the side however!

We stayed there for a few hours of course (GO Ducks!), and got a couple of pitchers of beer, and some waffle fries too. Our waitress was attentive, despite the busy night. We left with a relatively cheap bill, and happy tummies...and the Ducks got a Rose Bowl title win to boot! I'll be back for more sporting events for sure!

I don't know why I've put off my review... maybe because I frequent this establishment far too often to admit!!

The drinks are always flowing and the food is always frying- it's a great place for some casual fun. I wish they had a few more beers on tap, and that they didn't always feature a seasonal from Bridgeport... but I'm amenable.

HIGHLIGHT = the Naan Pizza... it is delicious and totally guilt-free :)

The Gap and I go way back to 2003. Every "Friday" night a bunch of my Christie School (holla!) colleagues and I would venture here to share, no wait, commiserate over pints about our work weeks and the kiddos we dealt with .

Fast forward to 2007 and my new job at LC brings us here occasionally for happy hour and appreciation nights from the dean. The food is ok, not anything special, but good enough to bring us back from time to time.

Fast forward to this last weekend. Seahawks have an early game and we need breakfast with a t.v. so the man can watch, and subsequently complain how he hates football and the Seahawks. (Fast forward 2 hours and he loves them and they win, weird). Anyhow... i digress. The Gap serves BREAKFAST! Who knew? Not this elite.

The portions are large but nothing fancy. You get what you'd expect from the Gap. Heaping portions with a little more grease than your stomach wants. We also had the Bloodys and they had too much W sauce for both of us. In fact, that's almost all we could taste. If you're gonna drop moolah for a something you might as well go wait in line like the rest of Portland. In the meantime, I'll be introducing DVR to the man.

Surprisingly douchey. I'd guess this is a hot spot for the upwardly mobile Lake O denizen not quite brave enough to go downtown.

Also surprisingly family-y. There were like six brats in the area we were in.

Service was good. I arrived late to meet former coworkers and was approached by a waitress right away. I decided on food quickly and had a beer and a solid reuben in like 10 minutes from sitting down. And no problem splitting checks. Boo yah.

I got the sense they were slightly understaffed. There were a few times I wanted to order but couldn't find our waitress. It seemed more like a systems failure than a service one.

The cinnamon roll is amazing. Get it. Even if you'll hurt afterward, it's worth it.

Came here for another hangover remedy after another long night of drinking. Belly a rumbin' an tumblin'... must get food in me quickly before something goes terribly wrong! We found ourselves at Buffalo Gap Saloon and Eatery. T'was a sunday mornin, week 2 of NFL on, large televisions in their room, speakers blaring through the entire restaurant. Good times.

I ordered the Corned Beef Hash - Hashbrowns, onions, bell peppers, topped with deli style corned beef. Served with 2 eggs any way and a side of fresh fruit. Very large servings. Corned beef was okay, nothing special, hashbrowns weren't crispy enough for me, a lil too soggy for my palate. The good thing was when I left...no heartburn! Surprising.

What else others ordered: one ordered the Bob's Red Mill Hot Oats - apparently these are famous, they won some sort of prize in a contest, hmm, who wudda' known? They look appealing to me, my friend liked em...Hey Mikey! He likes it, he really likes it!

Had a vegetarian at the table, she ordered the vegetarian hash, looked decent, didn't try it, but she ate almost 2/3's of the plate, pretty good for a girl.

Buffalo Gap was an a-okay brunch place, only thing keeping it at 3 stars was the football. Service good, food good, not the freshest I have eaten, chairs very rustic and on the uncomfortable side.

Stopped here yesterday for a quick bite. I didn't really care for "Please seat yourself sign". It wouldn't help if the place was busy. As we walked in there was no one around until we walked through the bar.
The bathrooms were a hit and miss. The men & women's signs were camouflaged which I didn't care for either. The service and food was good.

It's a rare occasion that I am tasked with ordering lunch for my team at work. And let me tell you that the Buffalo Gap has borrowed the Staples Easy Button. Their website has the to-go menu with enough of a selection to please every appetite. You know how usually someone is not happy on the restaurant choice? I did not have one complainer in the group! In fact, they loved every bite.

I couldn't have been happier too that the manager made my job easier by providing a scanned receipt (for that damned expense report!) and delivering the food on time! I got nothing but easy in placing an order for 19 people and I cannot thank them enough.

Sunday afternoon rolls around and I'm sitting in a puddle of sweat. I decided to meet a friend at Buffalo Gap and try their happy hour menu which starts at 1 pm and goes till midnight. I had 2 cocktails (not well), a caesar salad which actually had large shavings of parmesan cheese and very yummy, also had the nachos which was disappointing because there was so sour cream. No sour cream!

My bill came to $15! No type-o here, $15! This place has ample seating, a/c, and separate areas that could be a little more romantic as well.

I've been coming here since 1995, and I cannot think of one time when something has not been just wrong. Food, service, length of time to get served, no vodka in the bloody mary's, overcooked hamburgers...

I keep coming back because I live nearby and friends seem to invite me.

Their beer selection on draft is about as good as some frat bar in ohio, (Bud Bud Light Miller and one local).

The service is generally lacking, and as I sit here typing this, very very lacking.

If you can write a yelp review in less time than it takes to get you a beer, the service sucks.

I wish this bar was closer to me so I could walk home drunk.

From the outside it looks like your sterotypical sports bar with a trendy name... but, once you step inside you notice seperate areas to sit in along with 3 pool tables and video poker.

*they stop serving full menu at midnight and then start serving microwaved pizza by the slice-stay away from the pizza after midnight it doesn't taste so good.

It's definitely a what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of a place; it's a sports bar, lots of TVs around, wooden tables a dark paneling, etc. They have chosen a Western-themed decors, which is fine. It's a good place for watching, yes, sports, though we watched the vice presidential debates here as well and had a great time.
The thing that moves this restaurant into 4-star territory is that the food is surprisingly better than expected. A sports-bar like this has every right to serve mediocre food, giant burgers etc. But they have a great selection of sandwiches and salads that are really good. I got soup here one day, fully expecting it to taste like it came straight from a Campbell's can, but it was clearly homemade and delicious. I love their veggie sandwich, which comes on toasted rye bread.
A solid John's Landing establishment.

So, I just saw Yelps E-mail about Mac & Cheese. What is the true definition of great Mac & Cheese? Being a childless man, I can only imagine that truly spectacular Mac & Cheese means it's so good that a runny nosed crying machine would turn their nose away from it. Kids don't like good food. So, if they won't eat it, it's got to be good.

The Buffalo Gap has that great gooey baked M&C that I wish I had known about when I was in college. And the only thing that makes it better is that they will also serve you up a dish of Chili Mac. Yes, Chili Mac. It is of my opinion that the BG has the best beanless chili in town. Mix that up with a bowl of artery clogging pasta and melted cheese and you have been given a bowl of love.

A friend had a gift certificate to this place so we ventured out on a Monday night to get some eats.

Monday night is 30cent wing night but the funny thing is the server didn't mention that. What she did mention was that the wings were much smaller than the regular order wings and that they only come in the spicy sauce... well no problem for us. 30 wings for 9 bucks is a pretty good bargain in my book.

We also tried the fish and chips (fish ok, chips ok, didn't even touch the slaw it looked so nasty), reubin (not bad), cheese burger (decent burger but expensive), tacos (nothing really mexican about the taco - tastes like american made taco mix from the store). Beer wasn't all that cold.

Probably would go back on a Monday night for the 30cent wings but that's about it. Outside seating is pretty limited.

Date Visited: Tuesday 5/27/08 (Happy Hour)
I was there to attend my first Karaoke event with http://Meetinportland.org. I quickly looked at the menu and thought "HUMMUS!" I was also seeing "QUESADILLA", so had to order both as they were very cheap after 10 p.m.

First, the Hummus plate....it was a lot more than I expected (quantity-wise) and though it didn't have a big pop of flavor, the bread and veggies made it really good. I was able to share this dish with others and still have more than enough for myself.

The Quesadilla was also a good sized meal, especially with the Hummus. It was accompanied by sour cream and, I think, salsa. This is what happens when you type up a review over 2 weeks after the meal.

Just as a sidenote: Karaoke is held upstairs here and gotta say it's not a bad gig at all. I mean....you can't count on the singers to be good, but the set-up is pretty decent and the song selection is pretty sweet. When one member started to sing Howard Jones' "Things Can Only Get Better", that was ALMOST enough to get me hooked. The 9 p.m. to Midnight time-slot for Karaoke here is the thing that prevents me from making it a regular thing.

My continuing quest to Yelp as many business lunches in PDX continues....

Hit up the Buffalo Gap on the recommendation of a colleague today. It's close to the office, so getting there was a snap. Parking was a breeze, and we were seated immediately.

The atmosphere here is mostly in the "Roadhouse" aesthetic, without the peanut shells and such. The menu is gigantic, and has more options than it probably needs (does all that pasta really fit with the program?)

The service was quick, friendly, and not at all overbearing. I got the Reuben, and my colleague had the meatloaf sandwich. We're pretty health-conscious guys...

The food was great, and the atmosphere was pretty neutral, which means the Buffalo Gap stays on my "will return" list!

I have only been here once before and it was probably 5-6 years ago. The place hasn't change much since then. I think the only one I noticed was the large plasma on the wall. Otherwise, same old, same old.

That being said, I was jonesing for a good burger as I've been off red meat for a few months. I ordered the Bacon and Blue burger with sweet potato fries. OMG! I was in heaven. The burger was juicy without being greasy, the bacon was the perfect crispiness and the blue cheese sauce was tangy but not too sour. I would have preferred the fries to be a little less shoestringish, but they were still mighty fine. And the portions!? Get outta here! Out of control big. I could only eat about 1/4 of the fries.

I was in the attic for the music so got a good eyeful of all kinds of yummy food. Everything looked and smelled wonderful and again, the portions seemed quite large.

I thought the service was pretty good considering there was only one waitress for the entire area.

The only drawback is the parking. I was lucky enough to find street parking about a block away, but I got there about 2 hours before the music started. I can't imagine how far away some of the others had to park.

I'm going to put it on my list of places to check out again - for breakfast. They have a sizeable breakfast menu and most importantly, they serve a 21 oz. bloody mary!

I have always enjoyed this place for drinking and listening to music, but I was pretty disappointed with my eating experience. The food itself was pretty good, but they gave me something extra on my plate that i didn't order...ants.

The waitress treated me like an inconvenience when I told her, so that kind of bummed me out too.

Good place to go after work and have a beer, but I will not eat there again!

Recently stopped in for an OMRRA meeting. The service was definitely friendly. The food was tasty. I had the Dakota burger or basically a burger with blue cheese and hot sauce. Tasted great. Most everyone else's food looked good too.

My only complaint is this is a bad place to try and have a meeting since there is generally music going on and the acoustics are bad.

Parking can be kind of tough as I don't think the lot is as big as the place is and the street parking can be limited by the neighbors.

I have been here three times, once for breakfast , once for burgers and another time for drinks (maybe we ate, I don't remember). I really like the laid back atmosphere, the servers have been friendly, the food is good and the menu has a lot to choose from.

Breakfast was great. We both chose a different omelette and both were delish! There is just something about going out to breakfast and enjoying a bloody mary or a mimosa with your meal. Ok or maybe I just like drinks with my meal ;-)

The burgers are good, too. I have yet to find my favorite burger in town. For me, so far this place is in first. I do enjoy a McMen's burger but I think I like these more.

This is the place I think of when in the area and I just want a laid back place to go for a bite and a drink. They have a decent wine list for a bar, too, which surprised me.

One of these days I am going to head upstairs for some music.

This place kinda has something for everyone. I've been here so many times, and never had a bad experience. And I've never even been upstairs for the tunes. They have a cozy and large varied space downstairs with pool, digi jukebox, low ceiling dark woods cabin-y tables near the bar, booths near the sporty big screens and a patio for the smokers.. Also those scary little alcoves of Lottery games. For the squares there is a more formal restaurant area near the front door.

Generous burgers (buffalo too) with all the fixins, sweet potato fries (!), crab cakes, salads. The menu is hugehuge.. almost too much to choose from. The staff is usually busy, and sometimes forgetful, but they get 'er done. A decent selection of microbrews, not extensive, full bar. Depending onthe night you can snag a great table near the big screen for the game or near the pool tables/deer hunter video game.

Classic saloon offers laid back vibe

You can go to a pub, bar, club or in this case, a saloon and there's a big difference. Leave your pretentious high heels at the door here and bring your boots instead to kick up some good old fun. You get the feeling that there's fun around every corner here when you walk inside and are surrounded by wooden walls and games abound. Although this definitely has a lounge around feel, there's plenty to keep you busy with pool tables and live music upstairs. Although I didn't eat, there were dozens of food items on the menu, which offered a great variety for a pub. What I liked about this place most, though, was its vibe. Very friendly wait staff and live entertainment. This is the place to go with friends when you don't feel like dressing up or putting up with any bull. You can kick back and have a good time and enjoy some great microbrews on tap.

Tip: Head upstairs for live music every Tuesday through Saturday.
