The employees were all nice but clearly not interested in being there. The food was horrible, the hubby and I got some burritos. All we could taste was the awful chinese hot sauce they mixed in with the food. Our mistake for not reading the menu more closely. Since when does mexican food include chinese hot sauce?! The insides of our burritos weren't even warm enough to melt the cheese and the chips were stale.

For a specialty taco place it just wasn't adding up, hate to say it but del taco might have more flavor?  I want to give it a another shot, they should be able to work thru the kinks... However the chuck-e-cheese environment which in reality is the parents fault for allowing their kids to run on the adjoining benches but the mechanic horse in the middle of the dining rooms somewhat promotes it?

I thought it sucked. When we walked in the idiot standing there assumed we had been there before. I asked "sit anywhere"? He said yes, duh you order at the counter first, thanks for that dumb @$$. Next time i'll just go to pedro's if I want to order at the counter. Beer tasted flat. Stupid layout and the food, all though it was edible, was cold. Who serves a burrito in a basket? Is it a little league field or a restaurant? Lame bench seating. Looking forward to going to the restaurant that takes it's place in 6 mos. Go back to SD. Only gave it 2 stars because the waitress was nice.

Cool concept, great Decor, good food. Absolutely incapable of handling weekend crowd. Came during week when empty, no problem, food up in 10 minutes. Came on weekend took 35 minutes to get food, not ok. DON'T GO WHEN THERE ARE MORE THAN 3 CARS in parking lot.

I agree that the food was better than the service but not likely to give it a second try. Food was a six out of ten and service was a two out of ten. They put our entire order in one small basket and forgot one of our tacos completely. Credit card machine wasn't working as well. Just seems like they don't know how to run a successful restaurant. There are so many good places for Mexican food in San Clemente I will stick to the others unless they figure it out.

First visit took 20 minutes to receive a small take-out order.  The carnitas tacos contained meat that was burned and dry.

Second visit, our order was never submitted.  After checking in with the cashier, she finally submitted our order.  Took 45 minutes to receive food that was not even close to what we had ordered.

On both visits, the credit card machine was not working and had to use cash.

Ever since we switched offices to the North Beach location, we've been hoping for an inexpensive, quick restaurant option. Bull Tacos delivers.

Bull Tacos never gets old, with their always changing menus and variety of hot sauces. I really enjoy trying some of their wild card items such as the duck chicaharones and Oxtail/tongue tacos which sounds weird, but tastes really good! Their consistent menu is also very good as well. I usually opt for the chicken, pork and asada, which is a $1 each on Thursday. The menu staff is very friendly and I really like the laid back vibe of the restaurant. I also really like the beer selection too, it is nice to finally go to a place with PBR and IPAs on tap.

i went full of expectations. Cool interesting decor, nice beers on tap and a very cool place for the kids to hang out. Well, then comes to food. From the written menu on the board it seems very exciting, if it only tasted like it sounds... I had the lobster, bacon, chorizo taco. I couldn't taste any of the above... Just a bunch of fried gooey unrecognized stuff inside of a taco....  So I ordered a fish taco, mahi mahi, too fishy, so bad I had to put it on a napkin, I couldn't even swallow it... So, I went to tell the waiter it was fishy, she gave a blend look, took the plate off my hand and didn't say a word! Not only asked me if I wanted something else (!)
My husband had the carnitas, horrible as well... Not coming back, not recommend it. Not to mention that is not cheap....

Sad, I was looking forward to a nice cool kids friendly place in SC....

Just as the number of stars indicates, it was OK. I give it a pass for food AND service. I went for lunch on Thursday and ordered takeout to bring back to the office. FYI: They have 0.99 street tacos on Thursdays, can't go wrong with that!

The wait wasn't bad, and they gals at the front were helpful and friendly. Since I got take-out, I had time to look around a bit and absorb the decor. Not that it matters to me really, but I was slightly confused. Bright colors, bull heads on the wall with flowers behind it, fake grass stairs... I don't know much about Bull Taco and haven't been to any of their other locations, so it's not my place to criticize. I will say it was very clean, so that was pleasing to me.

The food wasn't bad. I got 2 chicken, and 2 carne asada street tacos. They were pretty bland, so the salsa was necessary to kick it up a notch. Once I dunked it in the salsa it made them better, but not the best I've ever had. Either way I was satisfied, kind of hard not to be at 0.99 a pop. I would go back to try the more eclectic meats such as alligator, shrimp curry and ox tail. Sounds intriguing! Thaco Thursday is the way to go for a quick, cheap meal. Until next time...

Not your traditional Mexican place, but who needs another traditional Mexican place in So OC.  Had the street tacos in five varieties all were great. Relatively new place but has improved in all areas over their short time. The food options offer something for everyone, especially for those who are looking for something new.

Place reminds me of a gourmet food truck gone stationary. Not a bad thing. Good beer and wine selection.

My buddies in SD are always talking about this place so I was stoked when the SC location opened. I have eaten there twice now and had similar experiences both times.
For me, Bull Taco can be split into two separate parts; the food and the service...

The food, for the most part really good! I love the variety of meats and the rice and beans are great as is the guacamole! The tacos are your best bet, go with the street style, less is more. The burritos are a bit tortilla heavy and dry. Still not bad but I've had better neo-mex burritos. The salsa is the best thing they have going, I would buy this stuff by the bottle! Very flavorful in evry incarnation from the mild to the super hot (I appreciate a salsa bar that's not afraid to actually put truly hot salsa in the mix). Food alone, this place gets 4 stars easy.

The service, ranges from bad to worse. I don't know if it's because this place is new and the staff are inexperienced or what but it just isn't good. The first time I ate it was take out. It took a while to order and a bit longer to get food, not too bad but they screwed up half my order. Overall it wasn't fast or accurate but they were nice and I can give them a pass.  The second time I ate there I took my wife for a sit down meal. The place was in no way busy but it took them almost 20 minutes to take our order! Mind you, we weren't sitting down, we were standing in line at the register. Apparently the cashier thought it was more important to do things like wipe down the counter, refill the salsa bar, talk to a coworker, etc... than to let us order. So we order and we have some specific instructions, my wife has a food allergy and can't have milk or cheese. She ordered veggie tacos without the cheese and explained that she was allergic to them. We sat down and waited another 20 minutes for our food. Two groups that came in after us got their food before we did. When we finally did get our food, my wife's tacos were covered in cheese. We called the waitress and sent them back. We got the tacos back and all they did was brush the cheese off the top. There was still lots of cheese in the taco! Do they not understand what allergic means! We sent the tacos back once more and they did the same thing again, still lots of little cheese crumbs in the tacos! Are you kidding me! At this point we didn't even want to deal with them so we just got up and left.

In summary the tacos are good enough that I would go on my own once in a while I suppose but I will NEVER endanger my wife's health by taking her here ever again.

I just went there with my wife on a Saturday around 4pm to try for the first time. We were the only ones there so obviously service was awesome. Their halibut, duck, shrimp curry and PB&J street tacos were delicious, and the lady at the counter was very helpful with recommendations. We even ordered extra because they were so good. One of the cooks came out and brought us 2 PB&J tacos for free! We left full and very pleased with the dining experience, and would recommend it to our friends. The fifth star will come (hopefully) when we visit during a busy time for the true test.

I looked at the reviews and I think they are listening! California burrito was awesome, they had a good portion of chips, the salsas were available. Good seating, cool vibe for a weds lunch. I see they have a taco Thursday for 99c. Daughter had the lobster chorizo bacon taco today and she Liked  it...Bean and cheese burrito also got high marks. Love we can have local restaurant who is listening to comments, adjusting, and making food and experience important. Wish you guys well, listen to customer comment. Fair prices and cool outdoor seating on Camino.

Bull Taco is an interesting experience. Eccentric decor, combination of goofy chic and cafeteria bland, but it works to an extent.

On the night we visited, my wife, daughter and I were taken aback somewhat by the femaie server wearing more tattoos than clothing, her wardrobe more suited to a dive bar than a taco shop.

Tacos are available in a variety of meats, two sizes, street, which are 4", and grande, which are 6".

We ordered chicken and pork tacos, beans, chips and salsa, couple of soft drinks and a draught beer, $22., very reasonable.

We enjoyed everything, tender meats, flavorful in every bite.

We heard Bull Taco has achieved cult status in San Diego and while we did enjoy the experience overall, we were not blown away..perhaps that is the problem, I was expecting to be.

We'll try them again, albeit with reduced expectations.

Can I give no stars? You would think being a taco shop the staple meal would be tacos, not true here. Nothing is staple about this place. Everything taste old and prepped from frozen. I recommend going here only for the beer seeing you can't mess that up.

Bull Taco has a cool ambiance to it - one reviewer's metaphor as David Lynch-style is an apt one. I was looking forward to trying it since I had seen its facade when I moved to San Clemente last month, but I wasn't sure what to expect as far as food offerings.

There was a decent selection of all the basics - tacos, burritos, etc. What was NOT basic were some of the meats and flavorings - duck, boar, and curry shrimp. I decided on regular (street) size tacos, one duck and one curry shrimp - at $3 each they're a much better price than Taco Asylum, although with less fancy accessories next to the meat (though cilantro, salsa and cabbage are just fine for me). My brother went for the curry shrimp burrito. We also ordered an appetizer of chips and salsa (they don't come with the table, unfortunately).

Both our meals were pretty good. Actually, mine was fantastic. The duck was perfectly roasted for taco meat and quite savory, and the curry shrimp, which had a ranch sauce over it, was incredible. I'll definitely come back for curry shrimp anything. My brother really liked his burrito as well, though he wished the contents were mixed before folding, as the burrito (which was huge - 2 girls can split one, easy) was shrimp on one side and cheese ad rice on the other, making for uneven bites.
They also had an insanely delicious (and spicy) house hot salsa made with ghost chile. Yum!

I do have two suggestions for the place: first, the menu should advertise that chips come with all plates. We did not know this and if we did, we wouldn't have gotten a separate appetizer of chips and salsa.

Second, if the chips and salsa are listed as an appetizer, they should be brought out first. My brother and I were starving and were looking forward to taking the edge off our hunger with chips, but they didn't give them to us or at the register or shortly after. They didn't appear until much later, with our meal, at which point we realized that the chips weren't necessary anymore.

Too bad!  Cold chips and grey/brown film on the store bought tasting guacamole.  No salsa fresca?  Had the carnitas and fish tacos- carnitas = no flavor meat with onions and fish taco was just eh:(. Thought they might have some interesting preparations because they claim to be "inauthentic "  weird ambiance- not warm or inviting/ fun.

for San Clemente....this is the closest you will get to SD style MX food....I know, we are so deprived. But their street tacos were not bad. I enjoyed them....I would skip the side of rice next time though...love the awesome decor and will be back.

A few days later and we were still thinking about Bull Taco so we decided to try their BURRITOS for dinner... unfortunately, tacos are clearly their strength.

We ordered a carne asada and a chicken burrito.  They came with chips... well, about 6 chips each.  That was kind of PATHETIC.  Keep your damn chips if you're going to be that stingy!

Also, I would have tried the hot salsa, but someone had taken the squeeze bottle to their table so it was UNAVAILABLE.  Maybe add a 2nd (or 3rd) bottle to the sauce station!

Now the food:  My wife described the chicken as BLAND and boiled.  I tried it.  She was right.  The carne asada was seasoned only slightly better.

Both burritos were really quesadillas with meat on them.  There was sooooo much cheese.  Mine was dripping GREASE from the cheese.  These should really be on the menu as a chicken quesadilla and a carne asada quesadilla.  As further evidence, the burritos were layered so that half of the length of each burrito was the cheddar cheese, and the other half was the meat with a little rice.  No beans at all, which seems a little odd.

The food wasn't inedible, but for the quality I would've have thought it was from Taco Bell.  Check that... I would rather have had a Taco Bell burrito.

We'll be back... for the tacos.

Had the surf and turf burrito, really liked it, the salsas are all hand made, not like at the chain restaurants. Nice place for lunch. Like that they have unusual fillings for the tacos and burritos like duck and wild boars.

Just So So. Tried four of the tacos: Wild Boar, Shrimp Curry, fish of the day and the Lobster/Bacon/Chorizo. The, only one that was memorable was the Lobster. That said, it was pretty pricey at $6.50 They have 8 taps with a few good craft beers.  Flavors just not that great. NIce environment but generally I was  bummed, I was hoping for something great. Walk 100 yards south and hit Riders Club.

Stoked on this place! They have killer burrito's (Lobster, Bacon, Chorizo)...A great breakfast sandwich, and exotic meats that I have yet to try....

The first time I went, they did have the " cheap napkin roll" that the primadonna's Todd S, and Cameron C are complaining about... I went back a second time, and they had nice soft napkins for those two..

It's a bit different in terms of seating, but I enjoy it.. I pulled up a TV Tray to the fake grass and watched TV and had a feed.

The WORST Mexican food I've had.  I had Bull Taco for the first time at an event that they catered and the street tacos were delicious. I was so excited to try this one and went with my sisters and our boyfriends.  The food was barely edible and pretty expensive.

We tried the quesadilla (deluxe or whatever) with chicken. The whole thing was flavorless - tasted like boiled chicken.  The carne asada tacos (the boys had these) were gross - meat was fatty and gristly... Which I guess some people like.  One of the guys got the California burrito and said it was okay.  My sister had the pork burrito and said the same thing as my sister that got the quesadilla - everything inside just tasted like flavorless meat.
The tater tots with carne asada and all the toppings tasted like they were deep fried 3 times over.
The chips and guac were just mediocre.  Cold chips and pretty flavorless guac... Decent when you mixed some salsa in.
They were out of beans and didn't tell any one in our party... So nothing had beans on or in it, which was a huge bummer.

I give it two stars for the wine and beer selections and the awesome interior, when you walk in to order.  I REALLY wanted to like this place as I've heard nothing but good things about it, but it was just so bad.  :(  The reality is that there are much better places in San Clemente to get GOOD Mexican food.

I don't know what some of you are talking about. This place is amazing. The food is great, good beer, good wine, the salsa is out of this world! Sorry if tearing off your own paper towel is too hard for you.... I will be back tomorrow!!

Burritos had gross "refried beans" from a can in them. Cheap paper towels like one would find in a public school restroom.  The burritos are dry...dry like a Santa Ana wind.  The salsa cups are the size of thumbnails.  On top of all this, the service was confused and slow.

I'm not going to simply give them a good review because they have beer. Beer is always good...and it has nothing to do with the kitchen.

They had better serve some better Mexican food if they want to stay open...San Clemente already has some solid Mex. options like La Seista, South of Nicks, El Mariachi, Chronic Tacos, Las Golindrinas, etc.

Oh yeah... The vibe inside is like a David Lynch movie... but without the deep meaning.  If you like skinny scarves, skinny jeans, fake grass, MMA, and cattle skulls....this place is for you!

Still... I am a hopeless romantic, so I will probably be back to try a taco.

You can't go wrong with the Surf and Turf (Shrimp/Carne Asada), LBC (Lobster, Bacon Chorizo) or the Ceviche. Also, they will accomodate changes to the menu if you have dietary restrictions. The fish of the day was seasoned and grilled to perfection as well. My daughter is a vegetarian and was more than happy with the vegetarian options. Basically, there is something for everyone and I love that they are "inauthentic"! Nice beer and wine selection and a helpful, friendly staff to boot.

OK people this place rocks! I have lived all over Southern California and had my share of great Mexican food. That said this is instantly one of my favorites. First off with any restaurant the food is amazing. The breakfast burrito is hearty and has just the right amount of crunch to it. Sometimes a breakfast burrito can be a little on the mooshy side but theirs stand out with a little crunch from the bacon, tater tots, and chorizo (there is also a vegetarian option). At lunch I love their Tortas and my new favorite the California Burritto. Decor is funky, but thats the point. they arent trying to be swanky, more of an artsy hipster in a surf town kinda vibe. Staff is super friendly. Just because there are three of these restaurants doesnt mean its a chain. The people in charge are the people working the register and if you ask for the manager you just may get the guy who grilled your carne asada. Fresh local fishy options abound as well but you will just have to go down and try it out. I personally cant wait for the wild boar carnitas I have seen on the seasonal menu at the Oceanside location.

Just ate there. Felt like they opened three weeks early. Nice people, but:
No drinking water (they did give free water bottle)
    Chips were cold
No napkins, just a paper towel roll sitting on the counter
No paper towels in the men's bathroom
The serve yourself salsa on the counter had some empty bottles

Food was good enough that I might try again in the future. If I do and it improves, I will update my review.
