Horrible, The burger was over cooked and the bun was cold. Â It's like they just gave me old food and didn't even cook it fresh. Â Extremely disappointed. Â The fact that nobody was there should have been a warning that the food would be bad. Â I have given them a bunch of chances and it keeps getting worse.
Review Source:Not bad. Pretty good actually for fast food. Similar to In-n-Out in many ways: micro seating area, longer then McD's waiting time, cardboard box o' food with tightly wrapped burger in waxy paper and hearty portion of animal fat soaked fries. Kinda reminded me of McDowell's, without Hakeem working the mop.
Normally not all that fond of copycat restaurants but this place happens to be close by (bonus points) and good for a quick fix of trans-fat. If In-n-Out is your thang, you'll probably dig this place as a substitute teacher.
And for those who complain about the soda machine being to complicated - Come ON! you push one button on a giant led screen to select your poison and then you hit the big silver "push" button to dispense with the sweet sugary carbonated nectar. So easy mom could do it!
I actually really like this place. I'm not a big fast food burger fan, but I've had food from here for lunch a few times and I am impressed. They have a lot of choices for burgers, including doubles, veggie burgers, chicken (grilled or breaded), chili burgers, and protein style. If you get fries, ask for "junkie fries"....they are similar to in n out's animal style fries, but in my opinion, the junkie fries taste better! :) I really appreciate how clean and well kept the inside of this restaurant is...you can tell that the owners take pride in their business..like other reviewers said, it is a little small inside. There's not really anywhere to sit inside, so plan to sit at a table outside, or take your food to go....
If you're in the san clemente area and are craving an in n out style of burger this is your place!
I thought the burger were pretty good.. Really reminded me of In-n-Out burgers. But the junkie fries were a little too on the greasy side and i ended up getting sick after eating the junkie fries... totally recommend the burgers and if you got a strong stomach (better than mine), try the junkie fries!
Review Source:I have been here twice, once with a friend and once solo just picking up some lunch to go. Â Since I work on base, and sometimes this far up north I will come here. Â Best alternative to all the taco joints, gotta keep up some variety. Â
However the inside is very small, and gets annoying when there is a long line, since it is just a single door to get in/out of the place. Â There are about 4 outside tables, 2 big tables and 2 small tables.
I like that this place offers veggie burgers, but I DO NOT LIKE that the price is DOUBLE for a veggie burger than a hamburger, that is completely F-ing ridiculous. Â AND your veggies burgers are not even great, they are probably the cheapest soy (if there is even soy in it) product you could find. Â THERE ISN'T ANY VEGGIES IN IT!! Â I couldn't even distinguish any rice in it either! Â WTF?
This is why I've only been here twice since you have opened. Â Next time I'll order a plain burger with no patty and save $2.50. Â
I tried the fries here and they are too salty. Â The onion rings are just okay, light batter, not a breaded batter. Â They had salt on them as well, which was disgusting. Â I'm assuming they put them in the same heating tray as the fries and thats how it got on there.
I don't drink soda so I really don't give an S about the fancy soda machine.
I think there is a Fatburger or something on the main road through the antique-y area of San Clemente, if your contemplating getting burgers, go there. Â They also have veggie burgers.
Completely underwhelmed. I heard so much about this place and the only thing out of this planet is the soda dispenser (which I admit is pretty awesome, but causes line-ups by people choosing to heavily customize their drinks). I'd give the chili negative stars. If you like chili, stay away from it here. Burgers are good, but I still prefer In-N-Out. Fries are mediocre. Solid fare though (except the chili. really. stay away from it.) when you want a good burger but don't want to schlep up the 5.
Review Source:This places is crap.  The chili tastes like it's canned and not very good.  I have been here 3 times just to give this place a chance. Well 3 strikes and they're out.  First time I went  I ordered a chili burger, fries and a shake.  While the portions are good sized with the exception of the shake the best part of the meal was the fries.  The next time I ordered a double cheese burger and it was blah.  The buns are like the cheapest you can get at a grocery store.  Today I ordered a chili cheese dog, almost 4 bucks.  I was the only one in there and it took about 15 mins to get my meal.  The service here sucks.  I have no Idea why 4 people cant put an order together in a few mins.  Anyway the hot dog was awful, the cheese was not melted and again with the cheap canned chili.  Overall the food is expensive crap. I'm completely puzzled by the comparisons to In-n-Out ??? Want a better burger then go someplace else, anywhere. Go to McDonalds (& I hate McDonalds)
Review Source:Do not eat at this rip off. A lot of people think this is like In-N-Out, but it's not even close. I just ate there, asked for fries extra well done because I like crispy fries. I could have pressed down on the fries with my fist and made mashed potatoes, they were so musshy. The cheese burger was so bland, tasteless bun, grey colored meat. I would have been better off eating the bag it came in. I am not a shill for In-N-Out, but I can tell you that if you are expecting an In-N-Out experience, because that is what these people are trying to emulate, then you will be sadly disappointed.
Review Source:The burger was good, but the bun was too thick I could hardly taste the meat. The soda machine was fancy and had pretty much every soda under the sun, including Mr. Pibb Zero and Diet Barq. The fries were so good that my husband and I devoured them before we got home (we shared an order). Overall, its a pretty standard burger place.
Review Source:So a local burger shop copies a giant chain restaurant and we should be impressed? Â Go to freak'n In and Out if that is what you want in a burger!
I had a cheese burger and chili fries with a chocolate shake. Â The burger and fries were palatable in a fast food sort of way but the price was over $10 for this meal.
Burger Joint is a little crappy looking inside with exposed plumbing and all the works for the magical soda machine hanging out the back.  While I'm on it, let's talk about that soda machine for a few moments.  Do we all have iPods or iPhones or  laptop computers or cars with navigation systems, or 52" plasma TVs that get programming beamed directly from space?  Do our phones send live video all over the planet and our microwaves come web enabled?  Do our cars "know" when we are near and unlock for us and our dogs have ID chips implanted in them?  Hell yes.  This is South Orange County.  This is the land of high tech people.  I am not impressed by a serve yourself soda machine with a touchscreen HMI (human machine interface) on it.  You know what impresses me?  I order a cherry coke and the kid at the counter goes and gets it for me.  And it's on ice and has a straw and lid a on it and my job in this little transaction is to drink it.  I never want to get my own soda even if the machine does have an HMI from 1982 on it.  So forget the soda machine.  Bring your own soda.
Nows lets play Burger Joint/In and Out compare and contrast:
        BJ       IaO
Burger   eh?       eh?
Sauce    eh?       oh!
Fries     eh?       oh!
Price     bah!      oh!
IaO wins by three "ohs!" and grabs a hands down victory for corporate America and large scale capitalism. Â Burger Joint is sent packing back to the minors.
What's my beef really? Â I can get an outstanding burger, maybe the best burger ever, at the Riders Club just down the street for this kind of money. Â Burger Joint, instead of using creativity and skill to open an outstanding local place, has made a study of a chain restaurant and attempted to replicate it right down to the flavor of the burger. Â I suppose there is some sort of perverse creativity in copying a flavor so carefully but I won't give it any credit. Â
Eat at In and Out if that is what you want and give credit where credit is due. Â You'll save a couple of bucks including gas for the drive.
1) If this place is not sued and shut down by In N Out then they must have good lawyers because it is the EXACT same burger (literally) except more expensive and the fries are way worse.
2) The food takes forever even though I only got two burgers and two fries and I asked for it to go twice and they gave it to me dine in style.
3) The only reason it got 2 stars and not 1 is the soda fountain machine, which has every possible option and the menu is a bit bigger than In n Out.
*** Read the posts, there is a reason that every single one mentions it's similarity to In N Out. Â I wouldn't be surprised if I saw a BJ employee sneak in the back with a van full of In N Out
After hearing good things about Burger Junkies(and their amazing, but overwhelming soda fountain), I decided that I definitely need to give it a try.
I came in at about 8PM on a weeknight and there were definitely people eating and waiting for their food, but it was not overly crowded. I ordered a single burger with fries and while I waited, I toyed around with the soda fountain, which gives you the option of many coca cola products in the regular and diet varities(Coke, sprite, fanta, lemonade, powerade, etc) and also gives you the option to add assorted add-on syrups to your drink(vanilla, lime, cherry, raspberry, orange).
Anyways, my food came up in a very timely fashion and was quite tasty. Lots of fresh veggies and pretty tasty sauce(but in my opinion, there was too much). Fries were great, thin cut with a crispy exterior and a fluffy interior.
Not much seating inside, but there were a few large tables right outside. I would recommend eating there, so your food is fresh.
Definitely give it a second thought instead of making the drive up to In-N-Out
Happy to have a new place in town to eat.
Pros:
* Burgers are fantastic. Â Very similar to In-N-Out.
* Great central location in SC
* Friendly staff
* ITS NOT A GIANT FAST FOOD CHAIN!!!!!
Cons:
* They need a regular soda machine. Â The "high tech" machine they have always seems to be out of everything but sprite.
* Fries were a little too salty for my taste, but my friends seem to enjoy them.
* The inside of the restaurant is kind of small, definitely better for take out.
* Little on the pricey side (but again, I'm comparing it to In-N-Out).
If we can't get an In-N-Out in San Clemente, I am happy to have burgers in town that are almost just as good.
