This is one of my favorite restaurants in Georgia. The food is magnificent, and the service is always friendly. I usually get a Buttwich combo, which is a pulled pork sandwich with a side. I love the sauces they have. Their sides are delicious too! The Brunswick stew is good, and I love their mac and cheese. The price is also very fair. I took off a star because I really miss their Baxter street location. Macon highway seems so far compared to Baxter...
Review Source:Not bad, not great. I Â Had the butt plate with beans and okra. Â The meat and okra were both pretty good, but I feel this place falls flat with their sauces. Â It doesn't get much better than Jot-em-Down that used to occupy this location, so I feel they've got big shoes to fill. Â I'll probably be back, but can't really rave about it to friends.
Review Source:Meh. Â It was okay, but nothing special. Â I wouldn't recommend it to anyone visiting Athens, but would probably eat here periodically if I lived in town. Â The pulled pork was the best dish we had, and the ribs were okay. Â The brisket was pretty lousy, and was oddly watery. Â If Yelp let me give a 2.5 star review I think it would be more accurate, but I did enjoy the BBQ sauces and the onion rings.
Review Source:Recently found this place. Both times I have eaten here I had the butt plate. All pork is chopped and tender. The BBQ sauces are great, I love the vinegar and hot sauces. The sides are where it's at, they have a ton of sides, and most plates come with 2 sides. I love the Brunswick stew. I like that this plea is no frills, straightforward, tasty, and cheap. Meets my cravings for BBQ.
Review Source:A couple of weeks ago, I ran into some friends downtown. Â It was lunchtime, and we were all more than a bit peckish. Â They gratefully allowed me to be their third wheel as we all climbed into the car to drive to the Butt Hutt. Â
As someone who never relished the thought of eating somewhere adjacent to a gas station quickie mart, I'm surprised that I have found two such delicious places in the last year (El Sol on Tallassee Rd. & now the Butt Hutt). Â
I got a plate special, complete with a side and a drink. I think the deal had some clever nickname (probably with the word "butt" in it), and I was sure the serving would be tiny for the price. Â It wasn't! I had just enough BBQ pork to try out all the sauces at our table. Â Everyone working there was friendly, but one person in particular (a woman in her 20s or 30s?) was extremely attentive, making sure we had everything we needed and that we were enjoying the food. Â For a place where you go up to the counter to order and then sit, I was impressed with the waitstaff's follow-through, atypical in that sort of setup.
Not my favorite barbeque in town, but the Butt Hutt's is yummy and worth a visit. Â Oh! They have some other strange soup concoction my friend ordered--it's rumored to be a common dish at Southern churches and get-togethers but it's rarely on restaurant menus. Â I think it has Saltines in it? Â Sounds strange, I know. But the spoonful I had was salty and rich; seems it'd be filling.
