Just had a afternoon drink at C&J's. Met the owner he is a heck of a guy! Very personable and thankful to all the patrons. The bar staff is super friendly and love to chat. As a women at a bar I was not turned off by half dressed bartenders or totallly drunk people. This is a great palce to have a casul drink at the end of your day!

Lame.  Only reason to visit this place is a lack of other options.  As someone who has frequented literally dive bars around the world, this one sucks at best.

Good dive bar. Lots of regulars. Drinks are cheap and poured well. Good place to go for a very casual place to drink. You can usually see a good shit show or two from the regulars. They don't serve any food, but there's fast food next door.

I love C & J's. I used to live right around the corner from this spot and the folks are always nice here. I love bartender April and Kevin. They are my favorites. They always do me well with drinks and provide me with great conversation and entertainment. Wednesday nights is college night and the rest of the week is always good times whether is it crowded or not. The restrooms are pretty clean and they also have karaoke here on certain nights. They also have a pool table and video top games.

Overall It's alright. Good strong drinks but sometimes I can smell the bathroom from my seat. Yuck!
Also the bartenders at night are cool. But the country one during the day isn't very friendly.
This place is a dime a dozen.

Went last night to see the California Cowboys (live country band) play at this place. The bar seemed like the majority if the people were there because of the band and probably weren't local to the bar. It was dark, divey and needs a new & bigger dance floor. There was Pliny the Elder in bottles available and Lagunitas IPA on tap so we were very happy with the beer. Really didn't like the chicks who dance on the bar and have men put money down their pants. Pretty trashy. Won't return unless the California Cowboys (or another great country band) are playing.

What a great sports bar. Very friendly and attentive employees especially on Wednesdays. Unfortunately a young blond woman pretends she works there and is extremely obnoxious. Cut the fake employee and this place is perfect!

Best Bloody Mary in Santa Clara is made by the Bartender April. She makes them just spicy enough, and they go down smooth. Great place to watch Football on Sunday morning. Between the morning and afternoon games, they usually have free barbecue.

This is a total dive bar and I love it. Granted I had a better experience because my friends are regulars, but even if I hadn't I'd probably still return. April, one of the bartenders, is a blast in a glass. She's spunky and totally sweet. They had great beer specials when I was there: $2 PBRs and $4 Stellas. I can hang with that. There are tons of televisions that were playing Sharks highlights and Sportscenter which is pretty much all I really need. The bathroom wasn't super clean but they had toilet paper, soap, and paper towels so I can't really complain. They had karaoke going while we were there and it was slightly pathetic, but I assume that's how karaoke usually is at bars. There was a girl there who thought she was the next American Idol and was hogging the mike. Several patrons' ears were bleeding, including my own. The vibe was great and I had a good time, which is why I'll definitely return here when I'm back in the area.

Minus one star for not having Patron and having to drink Jose Cuervo for my body shot.

My husband & I just moved to Santa Clara from Texas, and this is the first place we've felt really welcome since we crossed the state line.

The drinks are strong and reasonably priced, the bartenders are friendly and know what they're doing, and the regulars are more than willing to talk to strangers. Even after the DJ started up and the college kids started pouring in, the vibe stayed friendly and low key. The crowd is really diverse, which makes for a lot of fun.

I keep seeing reviews saying it's dirty, but it's just a little run down. The ladies bathroom was surprisingly clean, although I can't speak for the mens. If you need sparkling surfaces or table service, however, this isn't the place for you!

Not the cleanest but a fun and low key dive bar!

I wish I could rate this place 0 stars.

My friend moved across the street and we decided to check this place out on a Thursday. The bartenders were taking shots to the point that they couldn't function. We waited 20 minutes every time we wanted to order a drink. The bartenders were too busy taking shots of their own, talking to friends, dancing behind the bar, or letting girls motorboat their cleavage. The mixed drinks we ordered were watered down, the beer is well priced though.

When we were ready to leave it took us 30 minutes to be able to close out our tab. I'm surprised the bartender could even close it out, due to her intoxication. We of course left her a zero dollar tip, and as we left the bartender chased us out to verbally abuse us and call us ghetto for not tipping her. She was then joined by various other customers flipping us off and using racial slurs.

I would recommend this place for anyone that is looking for horrible service, watered down drinks, and the least friendly bar staff you could hope for. I will never be going back here.

check out the Giants Vs Rangers last night and had a great time! Arrived around 4:30pm and got a great seat at the bar. Plenty of HD Flat screens all over the place. Ask the bartender if there were any Giants drink specials and she said pick a beer on draft. (There are around 10 to choose from) I said how about Sierra Nevada Pale ale? and she said how about $3.00 a pint till her shift ends at 8:00pm. I said sounds good!. At around 5:30 the owner brought out Potato Salad, Chili, Egg Rolls and fried chicken and told everyone to help them selves. What is NOT to like, Cold beer at a good price, free food!
I will be back! GO G-MEN!

This place is a great local hang out. Stiff drinks & the best bartenders in town!  Bands & djs on the weekend & the locals love this place. I think this is the best little bar in Santa Clara.

Other than the bathroom that smells like piss.  I still give it 5 stars!!!!!

Why is it that I get hit on by weird and/or old guys? Why can't I attract the right crowd?!

Came here to prep for the Tottenham Hotspurs and SJ Earthquakes soccer game. Oh yeah this place is divey, and since it was early in the day, we had the grandpas hanging out at the bar. Arturo, an old drunken regular, said I was a pretty lady and questioned why I didn't wear a skirt or shorts. Who in the world asks that?! Then he would be blatantly rude and put down the lady bartender by calling her fat. Another regular asked me and my friend to excuse Arturo's actions. That was funny.

Even though it was a dive bar, they didn't pour it heavy. My friend also pointed out that his draft Coors Light was old. Ugh. Our three beers, three wells and a shot cost $31. Oh well. At least we were ready to roll for soccer!

I went to the bar for the final soccer match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. I walked into the bar and the atmosphere was relaxing. People seemed nice and the bartender was very polite to me. At first I saw some baseball and then, when it was about 11AM, the screens were switched to the Netherlands versus Spain match. I ordered a beer and the bar started to get crowded. During the second half I ate BBQ and beans. I ordered a cocktail and a beer then. The waiters were nice and people seemed to have fun. Some people were playing at the pool. During the competition, I had the opportunity to chat a little with the bartender who, if I understood correctly, is also the owner of the establishment. I was disappointed about the condition of the restroom for the men. One of the sinks was broken and some serious work needs to be done. Overall, including tip, I paid less than $15. The BBQ was also free. I recommend this bar to anyone. The screens are big and the atmosphere is cool.

Not the nicest little bar but the beer selection is good and the drinks are stiff.  I remember preferring this to the other local Santa Clara joints when I went to SCU because they usually had live music (sometimes sucky sometimes great of course).

I agree with Louis L.'s review, bring purell.  Its a divey bar.  Meh.

never really been a fan of c&j's.

went here last night for a promise of $1 beers...

even THAT was not enough to change my mind..

when i went to santa clara it was a last resort for the students...so yeah it was nice to every once in a while get away from the rugby-shirt and ugg boot crowd.  and to take in the aroma of sweat, smoke, and alcohol seeping out the pores of people who are somehow able to start drinking in the middle of the day...

    as well:
the parking lot blows--huge potholes everywhere.
AND you're right down the street from the SCPD station...so watch your six.
everything feels like its falling apart.

    nice touches--
-poker nights where people bring laptops and play online
-dice to be loaned out by bartender
-good selection of bottled beer--hieneken light for example
-jack in the box right next door!  clutch for late night munchies.

    oh yeah: BRING PURELL!

I usually perform standup there on Sundays, so I get to hang out there for awhile before doing my set. No complaints here. There are nice people, great atmosphere and maybe it's just because it's sunday. The bartenders are awesome too. I had my first long island iced tea there and holy crap...perfect and kicked my ass lol. Definately worth a try.

C&Js is pretty awesome, I've only been there a few times but each experience was enjoyable. I recently went there on Sunday and there was a Stand-Up Comedy thing going on which was also great. The bartender was very attentive to when I may have needed more and very easy to talk to and shoot the breeze with. Definitely need to go there more often. I'm not sure what days are the busiest, but regardless with a small crowd or large there, good times are sure to be had.

Ended up here after a party.  Good cover band, less than ok service.  I stood at the bar for about 20 minutes while it was slow and only got service when a regular walked up to the bar.  The bartender asked him what he wanted and he informed the bartender I had been waiting longer.  That's the only way I got service.  The bartenders are more concerned with talking to customers who already have a full drink in front of them than helping people who don't.  Odd way to make tips.

I had a good time purely because I was there with friends, one who happened to be a regular.

It's worth checking out, but I wouldn't expect to be served unless you know a bartender personally.

We ended up at a bar that's located a little too closely to the college.  It was crowded and the drafts were served in little red party cups.  When the bartenders did actually decide to pour a few drinks, instead of texting, they were rude.  Not my style.

Not sure how this place got so many 4 star ratings but take it from me, it's no where near 4-star quality let alone any stars at all.  It supposed to be a cool local sports bar for all crowds to hang out.  It's really an oversized rec room that happens to have a few screens, alcohol and a pool table....a layout similar to what you'd would find in your neighbor's garage, but marginally nicer.

If you happen to end up here, don't put money into the jukebox.  If the song playing isn't to the liking of the bartenders, they'll just turn the volume down and ask you to leave.

I'm not sure how always seem to end up here, apparently it's a favorite hangout of my pals in Santa Clara.  That being said, they usually have some kind of live music, and the college crowd generally shows up in full force after midnight.  Drinks pours are fairly generous, and prices are relatively inexpensive compared to those of the city.

I've always had a good time here, but beware of deceptively savage mixed shots they pour.  They will taste good, but kick your ass.

This bar doesn't quite live up to the status of a dive bar or a sports bar.  I think it is having an identity crisis.  Not as cheap as it looks either.

There was something about this little bar that I liked, but I can't quite put my finger on it.  It was definitely a regular crowd of sorts.  The bartender appeared to have worked here for awhile, and seemed very content standing behind the bar and just hanging out.

It's a small bar, and not at all busy(at least on thursday night), but it was cozy, comfortable and stress-free!

The cool thing about this place was while seated at the bar I had committed a party foul and knocked over and spilled my only 3/4 drank beer (hemp ale) all over. and the bartender refilled my glass... on the house. Nice.

    The crowd?

So a cowboy, santa claus, and macbook geek are at a bar..... and..

Sounds like the beginning of a joke but actually, that's what I saw as soon as I walked right in. The macbook dude hooked up his laptop to play some poker on the projector while having a beer at the bar right next to some old guy with a big ol' super white beard. The cowboy was the bartender with his 10 gallon hat. So that's the type of random crowd you'll find here.

So THIS is what I've been looking for!

Old-school dive bar with locals, regulars, and everything in between, this bar could easily be mistaken for another in the middle of some no-name town. But this isn't a bad thing.

    In fact, it's pretty nice.

No frills, strong drinks, loud crowd and nice bartender. We were there in the late afternoon...I think she introduced herself as Jen. Any bartender who can convince me to take some random shot that I've never had before gets points in my book.

$5 Imperial pints of Guinness made the bf happy. $6 large and strong Absolut Pear & Sprite made me happy (times 3).

We had planned to just stop in to check it out, maybe stay for one drink. We ended up staying a couple hours. That says a lot!

P.S. Jack-in-the-crack right next door if you get hungee afterwards.

    There *is* karaoke on Thursdays..

i've only ever been here on wednesday nights. it gets busy after midnight, but while the dance floor is packed, there's a little bit of breathing room by the pool tables.

the dj on wednesday nights is good too, usually plays the same music, and gradually adds newer songs on to the playlist. sometimes, you'll get a random song that you don't know, but other than that, it's fine. wednesdays nights are definitely the best nights to go. other that then, i've never really gone. i definitely like going here better than the hut.

the drinks are alright, not too expensive but not particularly great.

tiny parking lot in the back, i would count on street parking, or parking in other nearby lots (i wouldn't try the jack in the box lot though)...

Went here for post-drinks after dinner in San Jose last Saturday night. Our friends mentioned it since it was close to Santa Clara Univ. so it's quite a dive bar and surprised of how spacious this place was. There's a pool table, table hockey and a few arcade games. Drinks are less expensive.

There was a dj who spun mostly 80's rock, R&B, hiphop and disco. The bartender was nice enough to keep rounds of tequila shots to our friend's dismay.

It's fairly a mixed crowd, seemed like it was typically 35 years old and over.

This is a typical sports bar.  It's pretty small and dark/hole in the wall and divey.  The bartenders are very friendly and it usually doesn't get crowded here.  You could get the drink you want and some other creative concoction that the bartenders stir up.  If there's a pretty bartender who looks like a pinup doll, or a guy named PJ, ask them to make a carrot cake shot.  It tastes like carrot cake...or an oatmeal cookie :)

There's a pool table, fooze ball table, and a couple arcade games.  The counter vending machine games are cool too.  The one farther from the bathrooms deletes all records almost every night, so if you want your name to stay on the record wall after playing an awesome game of photohunt, use the machine closer to the bathroom.

This is best dive bar around Santa Clara.  It is an interesting mix of folks.  They have good prices.  The bartenders always seem down to take a shot of tequila with you.  The drinks are cheap.  The live music performers/djs always seem to be blessed with talent.  The layout is cool too and surprisingly big.  This place has a decent dance floor, 2 pool tables, and a variety of other bar games.

Oh yeah, this place is far better than the Hut.

This bar is just a short stroll away from my crib, so I've been known to come here every night of the week.

Usually a very motley crue, but after attending two C&J party buses, I feel like one of them.  Everyone is friendly, sometimes they have decent music, and they keep coronas on ice just for me.

Tuesday is Country night, with live country music.  Wednesday is college night, which can be a little crowded.  Never know what sort of scene you'll find.

I forget which night of the week it is, but one of them is college night.   This place is stuffed to the glands with Santa Clara University students, mostly the bro-ey kind.  If you're like that one hit wonder group L.F.O & you 'like girls that wear Abercrombie & Fitch' then this is the place for you.

The last time I went I was approached by a very intoxicated girl in a hoodie & a sarong who asked if I knew where to get some 'white sugar'.  I looked around at all the caucasian women in the establishment, held my tongue & said 'No'.

There's an asian bartender girl & every 5th word out of her mouth is 'Fuck' or some other variation of the word.  I want to marry this girl.
