I am writing this because I have to. I have been to this restaurant several times over several years. It is a Detroit landmark and an ethnic treasure. Â
That is what makes this so necessary.
Mussels are a wonderful and tasty dish simply prepared, low in cost, and rather healthy. Â The Cadieux Cafe is......(was).....legendary. Â The meal I had last night was less than a bad night, it was prepared as if the people at this establishment had no idea how seafood.....especially mussels are prepared. Â
And it was not just my bucket. I saw others in the same haphazard manor. Â Not even the broth (which is rather hard to mess up) Â had hardly any flavor.
I will tell you how disappointed I am......I don't intend to return. Â There are far too many options where people understand how fresh seafood is prepared and served.
This is a shame.  After all these years.  I can't believe the people I saw here didn't complain.  Maybe overcooked  flavorless seafood is the new thing....it's not for me.
Bucket of Mussels and PBR has been my staple here for decades (yes, I am that old) - I used to live 2 streets over. Â And the PBR thing was way before it became the hipster drink. Â This place is a staple on the East Side of the D. E. T. Â Feather Bowling is so fun and usually booked months in advance. Â They usually have good entertainment. Â The prices are fair and I am glad this place is still around.
Oh - and don't be fooled about Bath City Bistro - their pits aren't dirt so they aren't really the true experience. Â Imagine playing bocce on concrete - not the same.
The one star is just for the fact that they had feather bowling. Â Food was overpriced, fish sandwich was a joke. Fresh Mussels shouldn't smell like low tide, they were mealy, I doubt very much that they were fresh. The rest of the place is just dirty and old, but not in a good way, grimy. Oh yeah and the waitresses are rude. What a shame, I used to live nearby and back then this was the place to go.
