A stone's throw from World Famous Trestles, this will serve the post-surf session good. The 99 cent bean and cheese burrito is the best bargain in all of Orange County. The fried tacos remind me of the ones at Casa Franco in Mission Viejo, with superb beef, cheese, lettuce and the corn shell dripping with the right amount of oil, like your mother made them from scratch. Golden.

One of the best breakfast burritos I've had.. lol.. sounds funny but I'm a truck driver and have driven through many places and had my fair share of them!.. but every time I'm driving by here I can't help myself.. the place is clean and the art on the wall is pretty cool to check out while your enjoying your food..

I have been here a handful of times. I like La Tiendita which I believe is their sister restaurant and that's why I have tried this place more than once. I must say that the food is pretty consistently good. The one star is for the awful service. I think that Del Sol takes the prize for worst service in San Clemente. I can't fathom why the owner thinks it's acceptable to have such a rude staff. It's pretty unbelievable. One bad experience I can give somewhat of a free pass. Every time? No thanks. To the owner - you really need to put your staff in check.

I often hit this place after surfing San'O just because its the first place you come to, besides Carls, on the way back. The foods pretty good, especially the carnitas. The only reason i hesitate going back is due to similar experiences as the one I had yesterday. I had to clean a table myself before sitting down, the Pepsi dispenser was shooting out carbonated water and the trash cans were overflowing. The workers are shouting constantly and the place acts like an echo chamber. After I put my drink, napkins, utensils and a bottle of tapatio on the table that I just cleaned, my number is called. When I walked up to get it a worker takes the tapatio from my table and gives it to a guy who was asking for some.

Parking there kinda sucks especially if you have a full size truck. Its a tiny lot with a drive thru lane running through it.

But like I said the foods decent and the prices are reasonable. Just a shame the place isn't run better.

Place is Filthy, Flies all around! Been over a year since my last visit, don't think it has been cleaned since then.

Stopped here a week ago. Have come here before. Their $1.99 breakfast burrito is large and tasty. Inside service is prompt.

I asked an employee for ketchup, and she gave me a weird look and announced, "We don't have ketchup here." WHAT???? Beg your pardon, miss. I thought this was a restaurant!!

The several times I have been here I have noticed a rude, "I don't care" attitude among the employees. If the owner had the common sense to correct this, it would make this a far better choice.

I went here this morning to get the 1.99 bfast burrito. Wait in the drive thru was at least 10 mins and there were only 2 cars before me. They sent someone out to ask me what my order was and then asked again when I got to the window and then it took another 5 min! A man handed me the burrito(which was good) but didnt ask if there was salsa or anything else I needed. The service could be better for sure.

The fried tacos makes my head want to explode! I have to stop by at least once a week to get my weekly dosage of fried and fish tacos, no place anywhere makes better tacos and breakfast burritos... I just wish they make tortilla soup.

Waited in the drive thru line for 20 minutes with 2 cars in front of me. I only ordered 1 breakfast burrito but it took so long at the window that I drove off without my food after paying. The person takings money was rude to top it off. NEVER COMING BACK -I'D RATHER STARVE.

Pretty bad food. VERY bad attitude from the workers. Absolutely digustingly FILTHY
inside. The kitchen is a heath hazard and the tables were dirty. Hard to believe since there was 4 people working there and they were more interested in goofing around in the kitchen than cleaning up the place. I am suprised that they pass the Health Inspection. I think that they need a suprise health inspection done so at least the FILTH will be kept to a minimum. I took 3 bites of the carnitas burritto and threw it out my window. It was that bad and my stomach was upset the rest of the night. Who knows what kind of bacteria was in that thing but I will NOT make that mistake again. I really dont know how this place has good ratings. Unless you are blind and completely
oblivous to the bad attitude from behind the counter and have ZERO taste buds.

I've tried breakfast burritos and tortas at this place and haven't been disappointed. They are generous with their portions, the staff is nice, and the service is fast. It's a bit off the beaten path (at the very end of El Camino just before Trestles) but I think if you're within a ten-mile radius it's worth trying.

Owner is a jerk! Insulted my intelligence on a order mistake they made!! Then stated he'll check to see if he can afford to make a new burrito! What a jerk! I read other reviews questioning their service. You'd think they'd learn!!!! Ya jerk!!!!

Mixed feelings about this place. Food is always good, authentic, home style cooking and prices are reasonable. Attitude of the staff is unpredictable; from warm and welcoming to non-plussed. If you like Mexican and want a quick meal in a reasonably clean (could be better) place with a cool San Clemente local surfer vibe you will like this place and go there for good food whenever you are in town, as I do.

I try to hit Cafe del Sol after surfing to have the breakfast burrito with chorizo. I won't lie... it's not good for you but ohhh it tastes so good. Folks running the place are awesome too.

Total ScumHole! Not Cafe Del Sol - Crapfe Del Hole!!
Roach Tacos and Maggot Enchiladas!!
I refuse to EVER EVER Go here again no matter how hungry!
"ASSada" Taco I ordered was Chunks of Pure Fat.. No Meat..
Staff was rude and more interested in laughing and talking amongst themselves then to actually help a customer. People who give this 5 stars are either Paid or Insane. Green Burrito @ Carls is way better for you and that is Fast Food..
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!! DO NOT GO HERE !!
If you do.. Bring a change of underwear, A Roll of TP, Pepto Bismal EXTRA Strength and some Anti Biotics and a Bible.. Cause you might DIE of Bacterial Overlaod!!!!!

After having some incredibly tasty dishes the night before, I just had to try my old stand-by, which always shakes the wheat from the chaff. A good cheese enchilada and a Chile Relleno.
Both of these were absolutely top shelf, and way to tasty to get anything other than the full monty... FIVE STARS.
It's always amazing when a restaurant puts these two very different dishes on one plate, and still keeps each true to it's own flavor palet. Cafe Del Sol did this, and more.
Each item was complex and yet still provided the wonderful taste of each that is the foundation of that item.
Each item had incredible flavor, and was accented by a really nice amount of heat.
For those people who don't feel a meal is a meal unless it will feed 5 people, the combination that I got was way too much for me (I don't really eat large servings any more), I couldn't eat it all. The night before, one of the people I was with felt guilty because we couldn't eat anywhere near all of our food.
The carnitas burrito that I had the night before was so tender, juicy and flavorful !! I hadn't had one like that in years, and the other ingredients in the burrito were perfect accents.
Once again, thanks to all the Yelpers who help make my dining decisions a lot easier, and safer :)

Awesome place to grind a huge burrito after a long trip down to Trestles. This place has good coffee and very flavorful mexican food. The burritos are pretty massive and you would have to be super hungry to power one down in one sitting. They also got drive thru if you are in a hurry, very close to the 5.

This is a great fast food joint. I am addicted to their 99 cent bean and cheese burritos. Great carnitas plate at a great low price, and really yummy hard shell tacos. For dessert, try the 7 layer bar!

My boyfriend and I stop here for lunch and it was delicious. The price is reasonable and the service was quick. I liked the crunchy chicken taco, but I absolute LOVED the tortilla chips and salsa! They were really crunchy and thick, and salsa was refreshing. Happy customers :)

Dear Yelp App: Find me a breakfast burrito close by while I'm hungover and stuck in traffic on the 5 freeway. -Erin.

Erin, we have found a lovely place WITH a drive thru, with beautiful burritos just 2 exits ahead. -Your best friend.

Fast forward to me driving on the side of the freeway to pass cars just to get to my hangover-remedy burrito faster.

Their breakfast burritos are absolutely amazing. Every single review on here convinced me that this is where I needed to be. Avocado, cilantro, salsa, egg, big chunks of potatoes, peppers and onions, perrrrrrfection. Granted, as usual, I was incapable of finishing my burrito, but dammit if it wasn't the perfect drive-thru burrito I've ever eaten in my life. I mean just look at this beast http://www.yelp.com/biz_…

Not to mention, the dude at the window who rang me up & gave me my food was super nice and even chatted with me for a little bit while I was waiting for my burrito to be done.

The food was good, the wait staff was friendly, the atmosphere was charming, and the view of the pond across from East Beach was pretty. Yet with all that this place has going for it, the wait to get seated was a while and the wait to get service after being seated and receiving our menus was even longer. To top this off my Margerita was not well made and was left behind with the forgettable memory. Overall, I might revisit this one to give it another chance, but then again with all the SB area has to offer, I might not. :/

You get what you pay for...right? Most of the food is good (as far as taste, quality---well it is Mexican food).
The sauces I can do without. Depends on who prepares the food, sometimes it is really tasty, other times it is in question.
They are very slow in getting the food to you, particularly the drive through, so if you are in hurry, call ahead.

I believe all Mexican places should be judged by their carnitas tacos. Let's run through the elements: corn tortilla, soft and eatable not too moist from sitting in a steamer all day, meat plain which brings out the flavor of the pork a little on the dry side but forgivable, garnish fresh onion, cilantro and green onion.

Overall this place is interesting, nestled between a CJ's and Rip Curl shop this place definitely has it's share of dude bro's that visit after high tide for breakfast burritos. It seems to be recently renovated with nice wood tables and a contractor grade fireplace, a Marine flag is flying over the coffee garnish and Diedrich coffee is on the shelves. I will come back and maybe bump up the rating.

Our go to Mexican drive thru. The Del Sol Chicken Salad is what I always get. They use fresh mixed greens along with black beans, corn and avocado along with a huge portion of chicken and vinegrette on the side. Delish! My husband loves the carnitas nachos. If I have my dog with me they give him a treat!

Cafe del Sol opened a few years ago, but since I stopped spending a whole lotta time in San Clemente, I just managed to go there for the first time the other night. It's owned by the same people who run La Tiendita, which if you haven't been, is the most freakin' fantastic hole-in-the-wall place in San Clemente. It's on Avenida Victoria, right downtown. This place is at the south end of the City, like a stone's throw from the City/County line. We were meeting some friends there at around 8 p.m. The place was deserted, but they had three cars in the drive-through lane, so I figured they were open.

The menu is half coffeehouse, half Mexican restaurant. I asked the cashier if I could order off the breakfast menu and what she mumbled was incoherent, so with determination, I ordered my favorite breakfast item: a machaca burrito. She half-heartedly asked the dude in the back whether they could still make one -- he answered yes and off we went. We placed the rest of the order and grabbed a set in the empty restaurant.

The decor is "sunny" with artwork for sale on the walls. I really liked the interior, with the exception of the soda machine... all of the syrup boxes and their tubes were exposed, lessening the glamor of a magic soda dispenser. Boo hoo.

The food was fantastic. That machaca burrito was second only to the one at Los Golonrinas, but far exceeded the quality of most others I've had. It was meaty, flavorful, and fresh. YUM. My friend's tacos looked fresh and huge. The fudge brownie that we all shared at the end was fudgy, dense, not too sweet, and pretty darn perfect. The price was right too. All in all, a great experience.

Then, at 9:01, we were told by the dude who made the awesome machaca burrito, that they were closed and had to ask us to leave. Now, I've been in many restaurants after they closed, but no one has ever blatantly asked for me to leave, especially since we had just finished eating like at 8:57. Seriously! So, at 9:03, I left the restaurant thinking, GREAT FOOD, GREAT VALUE, MEH service. I'll go back though and if the service improves, we might have a fourth star in the making!

My friend and I were riding our bikes up from the state park and happened upon this place, and I am so glad we did! At first I was thrown off because it looks more like a cafe/coffee house than a Mexican food place, but it's nice inside and has a nice patio so I was happy. This is a counter service restaurant, so it's nice for a more casual lunch.

Had the taco plate with a beef and chicken hard taco, both tacos were great!! A little too much lettuce, but beggars can't be choosers, right? The meat was great and the shell had the perfect crunch. I will definitely be returning to try some of their other options.

They also serve Diedrich coffee, which is excellent.

You can't fault the value you get for the meal....they have $1 Cheese Quesadilla's which are awesome!

I ordered the Chorizo Breakfast burrito which was very large for about $5 - the reason for the 3 stars instead of 4 is I don't value size over taste. I felt my Chorizo burrito wasn't very flavorful - though filling.

Good place to get breakfast cheap - just next time I will order something else.

Inside decor needs to be improved....looks messy in presentation especially the drink fountain area.

Pretty good breakfast burrito and quesadilla. I got a 2 egg and potato breakfast burrito which came with tomatoes, onions, etc. The burrito was very filling. The quesadilla was very has a good amount of cheese served nice and hot. There were quite a few other mexican option as well.

I was definitely full from the two items I ordered. I could have just survived on the burrito alone. I didn't know that it was going to be so filling and solid.

To top it off, the price was very good.

My husband and I are back in San Clemente and need to find our "Go-to" places again, and Cafe Del Sol has made my list. We were hungry on a Friday night, had no food in the house and didn't have enough time to do a full on sit down dinner (friends were on their way). So, our roommate suggests Cafe Del Sol because they had a drive through. We both ordered the Combo #1 that came with a burrito with your choice of meat, chips and salsa and a small drink. Plenty of food for a good price. The wait was a little long, but I took that as a good sign. The burrito was tasty and pretty large. I saved mine for a late night snack and it was even good reheated in the microwave.

The other store set up by the good folks at La Tiendita. This one, close to the Rip Curl Store in San Clemente and the Trestles parking lot by Jack in the Box/Green Burrito is a good place to get some grub after a long day out. I've also swung by on my way back from work to pick up some food for dinner. Staff are always nice and my only pick of four stars is that it gets crowded sometimes while at La Tiendita it's got more of that Barrio feel to it...

I do dig the Art up on the walls.

Gross. 1.5 stars. I'm still tasting it, 4 hours later...

This place is quite interesting. Located near the Trestles parking lot, it hosts breakfast food (Diedrich's coffee, pastries, etc.) AND Mexican food. How weird/gross is that? I decided not to judge and go with the flow. I should've gone with my gut and bolted!

I ordered the chicken enchilada plate; my husband had chicken tacos. Both orders were horrid. Though my enchilada was - dare I say - "ok"; the rice on the side was dry and bland, and the refried beans very lard-like. My husband's tacos were sopping in grease. Grease literally poured out when he picked them up. He refused to finish them, and couldn't stop talking about how nasty they were for the rest of the night.

The restaurant itself is quite small, which makes the drive-thru almost a necessity. The walls were covered with local art, which was a nice touch. The tables were clean, and the workers moderately friendly.

This place has NOTHING on Pedro's. Save yourself the trouble and drive on by.

Wow what a great find! Being the first to review a new restaurant that is actually really good brings me a special joy that only serious Yelpaholics can understand.

I first noticed this place when visiting the Rip Curl shop next door and it was still under construction. It's in a really nice new building and even has a drive-through window! When I first walked in the first thing I noticed was it was really nice and clean inside, and the walls are covered in all kinds of surf art. The other interesting thing is that they carry a full range of Diedrichs coffee drinks, pretty much making this a great pre or post surf destination.

The menu is pretty standard Mexican food. The burritos are Mission-style, so they have all the meats pre-made and you tell then what you want put in it. I got a red chili beef burrito with beans, rice, onions, cilantro, and sour cream. The thing only cost $4.25 and was a monster. I knew as soon as they handed to me that there was no way I was going to be able to finish it. It was however, amazingly delicious.

The chicken, carnitas, and adobada also looked really good, and tons of people were ordering the breakfast burritos even though it was 12:30 pm. Actually, for Cafe Del Sol being such a new place, I was surprised how busy it was. I guess word spreads fast in San Clemente.

I think Pedros Tacos has just found its first competition for where I eat for when I'm hungry and driving through San Clemente, and if you've ever been to Pedros you know that's a pretty monumental achievement.

Thumbs up!
