Tried the Blue Crab cakes and Gnocchi appetizers. The crab cakes have a great warm flavor with the sweet salad. The Gnocchi was bland.
Our entrees were Mushroom Ragout and Spaghetti & Meatballs. Both were excellent.
The check was about $52.00 which we thought was reasonable.
I would highly recommend Cafe Italia.
When I was here I had the nightly special (swordfish) and I couldn't have been more pleased. It was cooked exactly how I ordered it and they even carried out my request to place the sauce that came with it on the side. The wait staff was very helpful and knowledgeable, and the coffee selection was also excellent. The portion for my dish was quite large and I was happy to pay $25 for it. I am not a big fan of pasta, so if I came here on a night when there was no special that didn't include pasta I don't think I'd be quite as satisfied. I also really appreciate them giving me extra vegetables instead of pasta. If you like good Italian food (all of those in my party raved about the pasta) or good food period give Cafe Italia a try!
Review Source:I cannot believe the two poor reviews for this nice place.  My wife and I have eaten here several times, and have taken friends who all enjoyed it.  I took a businessman from Denver who is very much an experienced and knowledgeable diner.  He had the Osso Buco and was blown away.  He told me that he goes there every time he's in Billings now.  The ambiance is warm, and the food and wine reliably excellent.  If I want to buy  a restaurant gift certificate, I am comfortable getting one from here for anyone.  Have never had a bad experience here.  We are well travelled and select the finest reastaurants at which to eat, so we are not just local critics.  BTW, we have no connection with the restaurant or anyone connected with it.
Review Source:So sorry, but we really didn't like it. Then someone who seemed to be the manager seemed annoyed that we didn't like it (not that we broadcast it, my husband and I were talking quietly with each other, but it's a small place, and sound must travel in a crazy way). We really wanted to like it, but just didn't.
Review Source:Thought this was going to be a great experience...decor was fine, mellow and in a lovely old building. Server was knowledgable and quite capable...she was alone  on the floor.  Wine was yummy an  ETC Merlot from CA.  The beet salad with grapefruit vinaigrette (had bleu cheese crumbles not mentioned on the menu) was yummy. Bread was great...crunchy crusted roasted garlic served with EVOO and balsamic. Then it went south...Gnocchi in browned butter was like a paste like goo...the special Prawns seared served over pasta with a Putanesca sauce, prawns were way overcooked and it was a tiny amount of pasta for the price. Really wanted to love this place, but ended up having a great wine with a salad and bread...maybe would try again.
