  I've heard lots of bad things about this place -- that it's dirty and gross and awful -- but my best friend and I both thought it looked cute from the outside and wanted to give it a try. What a big mistake. It is VERY much dirty and gross and awful. We told the bartender it was my best friend's 21st, and she refused to serve us more than three shots, apparently because she thought we couldn't handle more than that. Meanwhile, the other customers (obviously regulars, who were certainly not limited to three drinks) were making crude advances to another friend. I won't say I'm an expert in bars, but even at 21 I could tell that this was a place to avoid.

  For years I had heard this bar repeatedly described to me as the nastiest, dirtiest, scummiest bar I would ever see, with the most vile and insufferable clientele I could ever imagine.
  
  Well, that may be true from your perspective if your idea of a dive bar is Applebee's or Harry's Country Club.  But when you've been to as many bars as I have and seen the things in them I've seen, Calico Cat is not that bad.
  
  The bartender was pretty nice, and the other customers were friendly too.   It's not THAT dirty, and it didn't smell too bad.   It's just a regular neighborhood lounge in an old part of town that's seen a lot of years.    There's really not anything wrong with it as far as I could see.
  
  Yelp's map has the location off by a few blocks.   It's actually located a few blocks southeast of the location shown, at the SW corner of US-24 & Hardy.
