Don't be tricked like my mind did to me when I bought my Les Miserables show tickets thinking the show would be at the new Kauffman center.  My mistake not verifying the address until the show date to realize depending on the show it can either be played at Kauffman center or this music hall they call the small theatre.

Old style, but still a great place to watch a show.  Don't forget your binoculars if you have balcony or high seats, another mistake I made since you can see the stage and hear, but you won't see the details or clearly see actors faces.

I have mixed feelings about the Music Hall.

I was lucky enough to get free tickets to see the Broadway show "Billy Elliot" which is about the 1984 coal mine strike and a young boy with a dream to dance. The boy playing Billy Elliot was a fine actor, but  I didn't think that the show itself was up to par for a Broadway musical. The dialog and the effects just weren't stellar Broadway, in my opinion. But you can't judge a building by it's show, right?

Show aside, the lobby was very sophisticated. All the stairways and flooring and even the ceilings were beautiful. There were multiple drink vendors set up, provided by Aramark services, for your refreshments needs before the show.

Once inside the theater, I wasn't impressed. I know the place has history and background, but the seats and the carpet need a desperate re-model. Yet the sound quality was great and the seats, albeit old, were comfrotable.

Perhaps I was spoiled seeing Wicked in Chicago, but I was pleased I got the tickets for free; definitely not worth the full ticket price.

Lovely Art Deco theater that manages to be surprisingly intimate. Great for Broadway performances and concerts. It's a piece of Kansas City history - the lighting fixtures inside were the inspiration for those sculptures/spacehsips/curlers/whatever else people call them atop Bartle Hall. My Dad still says the best concert he ever saw was The Who at Kansas City Music Hall. I hope the Kauffman Center (which I also love) doesn't hamper its business.
