AJ's is located at the southern edge of the Pendleton Heights Historic District. Â When the Pendleton Heights crew (comprised of young professionals and artists) converges upon it, it turns into Fun Central. Â We love this dive, it's owners, it's employees, and it's colorful collection of regulars. Â AJ & crew are good people. Â It's a small, no-frills joint with some excellent top-shelf choices. Â I've never seen a cockroach in the house, nor have I had the odd privilege of spotting a shopping cart full of someone's personal effects. Â The former certainly wouldn't please me, but I'd probably be strangely charmed by the shopping cart!
Review Source:A friend of mine had told me about this place. Â "I was sitting in there drinking a beer and suddenly the door opened up and some guy came in pushing a shopping cart loaded up with TVs," he told me. Â "Then, a few minutes later, a huge cockroach scampered across the bar."
I had to see what he was talking about. Â Â I found myself in an old, worn down neighborhood bar that somehow still felt very comfortable. Â Most of the patrons were quite a bit older than me.
I never saw a roach, however there WAS Â grocery cart in the corner full of someone's belongings. Â Â And, I have to admit, I've been here a few times and someone has brought in a grocery cart full of something just about every time.
