I love it when the word "authentic" is used to describe a totally Americanized Mexican restaurant that lists items like potato skins, calamari, cobb salad, Caesar salad and "gringo burgers" on their menu. Yeah, I'm sure their waffle fries taste just like the ones Abuelita (Granny) used to make back in Puebla.
On our visit the Tex-Mex offerings were mediocre at best. The service was pretty good, but the margaritas were no bueno. Actually the marg was terrible. Whatever they use for the mix tasted really artificial, and completely killed the flavor. Unfortunately there was nothing that made this place stand out, or make us want to return.
Dropped by only for a quick bite on our drive back to New York since we didn't have a ton of options in this small town. The place was literally empty when we arrived on a Sunday around 1pm.
It looks like your average bar, though I guess it's a Tex-Mex restaurant by day. Food is decent and there's a free chips and salsa bar (feels so dirty, but we didn't get sick so I guess it's fine). I ordered the caliente burger and waffle fries, which was tasty. They also had a Sunday Mexican pizza "especial" for $11 that included a pitcher of skunky Bud Light. Pretty sure this food is not "authentic" as another Yelper claimed, but maybe it's as good as you can get in the area.
Overall, not bad for an informal lunch. It feels grungy, but the service is nice and we survived.
Came here 1 nite w/my kids 4 some good mex food &it was authentic! I didnt see but 1 other "family" in there that nite..even though they say its family friendly. The restaurant wants 2 b I could tell but w/the whole "bar feel" w/ the crowd that was present..we decided 2 eat fady & run. Great food, good prices, atmosphere is the norm w/ people looking 2 drink their nite away & "meet some1". Hopefully the owners will encourage families 2 become "regulars". We'd like 2 go back but I'm not keen on bringing my kids 2 a bar scene. Â ;)
Review Source:Not bad; we went on a Monday night. Â Atmosphere seems good; probably better later in the week.
They serve traditional Mexican. Huge portions are served here, so keep that in mind when you order. I had the Nachos Grande (Large portion) and couldn't finish it. Â Tasted good, but a little too much of the chili seasoning for me. Â I would've prefered just the ground beef with the other toppings. Â Most beef themed dishes use shredded beef, rather than ground beef. Â My wife had the Gringo's Burritos (chicken) and liked it.
Service was fine and we sat outside.
