This use to be a decent restaurant but after tonight we will not be going there again. Â Service was very slow. Â Mostly family members. Â No organization on who was responsible for what. Â Took 45 minutes to get our food. Â The mash potato's were runny, they were out of different dishes on the Menu so you could not order some of the items. Â The final straw was the bathroom was a mess and no TP in the stall. Â If you are going to serve customers at 5:30pm on a Friday night might I suggest you clean the bathrooms, put fresh toilet paper on the rolls and have your help and food in adequate supply. This was a 3rd try at this place and it has only gotten worse each time.
Review Source:My boyfriend and I stopped in for a drink on night just to try it out, and hadn't been in since new owner took over. Â Heard bad things but thought I'd see for myself. Â We both got bloody Mary's and they were disgusting! Â Literally all she did was use tomato juice and vodka. Â It was offensive to me that they could serve a drink like they did with a horrible presentation and charge 5-6 dollars! There was no pepper in the mix and no garnish what so ever. Â We will never be going back because if that's what they do with their drinks I can't imagine what their food looks and tastes like now. Really used to love this place too.
Review Source:I used to take a lot of my business associates to this restaurant and we always had a good choice of food that was very very tasty up until today. Â They are changing the menu and the food has been downgraded. Â The choices are lacking also. Â The burger was dry and tasteless and my co-worker who had the new style BLT was very disappointed with the lack of tomato. Â The service was slow as I blame the cook coming out of the kitchen to introduce himself to everyone. Â He should have stayed in the back and got the food out of the kitchen. Â It seems that they have a new waitress staff who are friendly enough but a little slow with the service. Â Â I hope they intend to bring back the new menu and the old staff, otherwise I'll be looking for a new place in Canby to take my vendors and co-workers.
Review Source:I was at this restaurant back in July and had a blast! Food and staff were incredible and I wish I had one here in Calif. The owner of the restaurant came to our table and offered suggestions from the menu. We ordered exactly what he thought would suit our crowd and everyone loved it. Staff and owner were very helpful and tended to our every need! This place will be a huge success so I suggest you get in there soon before they get too busy. I have raved about our experience to many people and am sorry I didn't post this earlier!!
Joe.
Hit the fair today with the family and wanted to eat some decent food instead of the greasy fair food... should have eaten at the fair. Â We wanted to try this place a long time ago but aren't in Canby much. Â So today we thought we'd give it a try. Â The sign says new owners. Â Inside it looks like a nice pub and if we were there later I would have tried the happy hour menu. Â The wait staff was very friendly older ladies, but they were obviously short handed. Â They were running around from table to table. Â The food was nothing special. Â Kids had corn dogs which were ok and a personal pizza, which was obviously a frozen pizza I could have bought at the store for $2. Â The french dip was ok, but nothing fresh here. Â Canned mushrooms etc. Â Based on this I would say don't come here for the food. Â We wont be back.
Review Source:Sadly, tonight is the last time I will step foot in this establishment. Apparently it is under "new ownership" but the menu and the "chef" must be the same.
Service was pretty awful with requests not being fulfilled, plates not cleared, things supposed to come with dinners not coming with, etc. Mostly though, it is the food and the prices that will make it that I don't come back.
I hate places that don't have real butter and serve little margarine packets with bread or potatoes. I also hate places that use frozen vegetables and cook them to death. Mostly, I hate places that don't care about their food or what is served. Tonight the husband ordered chicken fried steak(previously enjoyed by FIL) and he who does not complain only ate 3 bites. He said the gravy tasted like paste and was inedible (of course, no waitress was around to send anything back with). I ordered a half rack of ribs and the meat fell off the bone but what fell off was bone dry-even with the BBQ sauce and the underside was all fat. Bleh. Each meal was $16.95 and quite terrible. I won't go into what the rest of the family ordered, but no one was impressed, and no one wants to come back.
Now, I will have to suck it up and eat fast food or cook at home as the Pub and Grill is dead to me (kind of like my ribs tonight).
Took my wife here for dinner... Â once. Â The service was slow, the food was ok, but portions were very small for the price. Â I don't like huge portions, but this was very small. Â Perhaps I should give it another try, but with other options, it may be a while. Â On the plus side, it's one of the few places in town that I'd feel comfortable in wearing something nicer than a T-shirt. Â To the owners: don't try to save money on food!
Review Source:The waitstaff is very friendly. It's a beautiful establishment with it's original floors from the late 1800's (for real - I've got a book on Canby history and this building is in there. It looks like something out of LIttle House on the Prairie). Betty Boop doesn't exactly go with the motif though. Their prices are a bit high if you're not careful. Tam F. mentioned free refills on the soda. Not anymore... they changed this. You get only one refill before you're charged again. And they didn't bother to lower the price either. So, if you want to go in to eat appetizers and drink soda, think twice.
Review Source:The food isn't bad, but it isn't anything to write home about. Red wine was served in warm glasses. Service was very poor -- slow to get our order, slow to be served, slow to be asked how things were and if we wanted anything. I never did see the "pub" -- there's an unattended bar with bar stools, but no bartender and, therefore, no place to have drinks while you wait for a table. It's not a bad place if you have nothing to do and just want a night out, but it's not at all worth going out of your way for.
Review Source:I have been here a few times with a Canby lifer for lunch and the food has been hit or miss. It is nothing special. Our service has been either really good or poor. Very typical menu and just OK on portion size. It is not bad but not the best either. The place is very comfortable inside and that helps.
Review Source:I think Miz Tam T. hit the nail on the head with a 3.5 star rating. Â
Our misadventures in dining began with the hopes of a rare Sunday breakfast out with the hubby after an even rarer late night bar crawl the night before. Â Our first plan was to go to a small town diner we've been to before in the country. Â I took a look on the web and it said the place was closed on Mondays, so we made the drive out to the country and it was on reduced winter hours, so alas it was closed on Sunday, too. Â Big bummer. Â
So we had an unexpected Sunday drive through the country. Â Went through Aurora past the antique shops and didn't see any restaurants that looked interesting, so on to Canby. Â
This was my first time at the Canby Pub & Grill which is a block off Highway 99. Â It looked slightly more upscale then the other dining options around town. Â You walk in the door and are greeted by a large Betty Boop statue holding a parasol (random!), but the rest of the decor is old, worn wood floors, high ceilings, dark green walls, tapestry curtains and high backed wood booths in the dining area. Â There is a separate bar area with large screen TV and beer bottles lining the walls.
Greeted and seated immediately (yeah!) in a nice corner booth. Â Coffee came right after that while we perused the menu. Â Lots of tasty options. Â It was tough to pass up the Blueberry Pancakes, but I settled on the Vaquero Omelet (chorizo, black bean salsa, avocado, sour cream, etc.) and the man chose the Coastal Omelet (salmon and cream cheese). Â Choice of sides as well all for a pretty reasonable price of $9.
I must say the food really hit the spot, but there were a few little hitches along the way. Â The booth was clean but the creamer dish was filled with discards and hadn't been replaced. Â When we got our food our sides were mixed up and delivered to the wrong diner. Â I give both omelets a rave and I can't tell you how my biscuit with butter and honey hit the spot after a long night out. Â The hashbrowns and country potatoes were okay, but didn't have a lot of seasoning. Â
Our service was a bit of a mixed bag. Â Seated and got our coffee immediately and I think we were offered warm ups at least six times. Â But we had the snafu on delivery and were abandoned when we wanted to get the check. Â The servers were obviously working hard and were cheery, but it was a rush period.
So I can't offer more then three stars based on all of the rave reviews so many places in downtown receive where I'm sure the food and decor are a little more unique/trendy/cool. Â But, if you are in the Canby area, I recommend you check this place out.
