My wife and I stopped into the Cannon Brewwpub as she accompanied me on a business trip to the area. Â To be honest, it's not like Columbus (or nearby Phoenix City) have a lot going on, foodie wise... so this place is sort of a must when in the area...
That said, we left far from disappointed!
It was a really nice day, so we decided to park ourselves on the patio (just a few tables right out front on the sidewalk) after checking in with the hostess and washing up in their bathrooms. Â We were seated promptly, served almost instantly (waters in hand), and given a chance to carouse the menus.
Looking them over, we decided on a couple samplers of their beer (gotta try everything they have, right?)... one of their burgers... and a pretzel ham melt sandwich.
Beer-wise... they were all just okay... with the stout being the only winner in the bunch. Â Nothing was terrible, but I don't think this brewmaster will be winning any national competitions anytime soon, ya know?
The food shined... and was fantastic! Â Everything was piping hot, cooked to order... and the sweet spots (fried sweet potato chips) were exceptionally tasty.
Our server was just as good -- friendly, efficient, an attentive... all while the price tag didn't break the bank at the end.
Next time I'm in town, for work, I'll make it a point to stop in (and secretly hope the brewmaster has explored a bit more to find a niche).
Cheers!
"Pretty Poor Service." Â
We ordered an appetizer and it came out missing the ranch dip the waitress suggested. Â 10 minutes until she came back again to check on us. Â Then she gave me an annoyed look when I asked for the ranch she'd offered. Â Meal came in shifts, from a server other than our waitress. Â My meal was the wrong burger, but the manager caught it without me having to say anything. Â He brought me a well overcooked burger to replace it, but without fries. Â He said he'd bring a hot plate of fries right out. Â They never came. Â Waitress strolled by sometime later and poured water in my daughter's $2.50 Sprite, and was gone in a flash.
I give it a 2 out of 5 for decent beer. Â The management should train the waitstaff on things like preparing the table before the guests are seated. Â That includes wiping the table AND CHAIRS. Â Our waitress seemed friendly, but she lacked interest in making sure our experience was a good one. Â I didn't mention the watery Sprite, or my fries, or my dried out hockey puck burger, or the fact that my wife was never offered another beer. Â I could tell the minute we sat down that our waitress wasn't interested in us or our experience. Â So I expressed my displeasure in my tip.
We'll go back, but will avoid this waitress next time.
My husband and I went to the Cannon during the Cutbait Music Festival, we have been going for many years but I feel that it is time to post a review. Â We prefer the "old" section as opposed to the new, bright and clean looking section. Â We were greeted by friendly wait staff and were seated immediately. Â Â My husband ordered the Golden Ale and I had a seasonal Mexican style beer, both were good even though it took a bit long to get our order. Â We ordered the vega matic pizza and Chuck's Spinach Salad and were surprised at how short a time it took to get the pizza. Â We were informed that the Cannon now has a state of the art pizza oven and it takes no time. Â The pizza and the salad were excellent and I highly recommend them. Â Â The only thing I would recommend is that the chicken on the salad be cooked a tad longer, some pieces were slightly pink and that the cherry tomatoes be sliced. Â Minor but just some suggestions to improve one of our favorite places to eat.
