Carney's

Carneys has officially jumped the shark.  My wife and I have been timing here since 1993.  Even as recently as 2 years ago, the place had great food, solid prices and always good service.  

Every time we go to Cape May (at least once every 2 years), we look forward to going to Carneys for clams and beer in a relaxed, good for the kids environment.  That hasn't changed.  The place still looks the same, but he menu has changed and the prices have skyrocketed.  $19 for linguini and clam sauce.  At a bar?  

About the food:  My hamburger was significantly under cooked.  The clam chowder was very watery and not like it used to be.  The clams casino were very small and for $9, we only got 5 clams.

Also, we came in at around 6:00 on a Thursday and couldn't believe how dead the place was.  What happened Carneys?  Please, please, please stop whatever you're doing and go back to what you were.

Nice looking place.   Odd 70's music.  Had spicy steamed clams as appetizer.  They were the highlight of the meal.  They were quite good.  Had a cheeseburger.  Looked beautiful, but lacked any flavor.  Wife had crabcake sandwich.  Same thing.  Looked great but no flavor.  Will not return.

Let's be honest here, this place is kind of a dump. I've not experienced the food, so I can't comment on that, but once the "party" starts at night with the band, you can't move anywhere. The way the building was designed you've got several "choke" points where people need to be funneled in and out of. Talk about a major fire hazard. Furthermore, the stage is small and cramped, making even the smallest band seem cramped and uncomfortable. I  highly recommend Cabanas which is two or three store fronts down.
