Wow....wow... all I can say about this horrific attempt at Mexican food. I should've known I was in for a ride when I came to bainbridge isle looking for dinner with the wife an child on a day trip but really... The food is bland and tasteless. The margarita is a cup of tequilla and a splash of something else that made my wife nearly vomit! 2 adult dinners, 2 dribnks and a kids meal = $57.50. Hardly worth it and No appetizers ordered. Sorry to say this place needs a serious makeover. From the staff to the food to the bartender. IF I COULD GIVE NO STARS I WOULDVE.
Review Source:Authentic looking mexican restaurant on Bainbridge island. We liked the atmoshere, reminds me of Mexico. In fact, most of the personnel are Mexicans. The food was ok, nothing extraordinary, but more on the pricey side. As it was one of the few options on the island, I don't compain, but it's really just ok.
Review Source:I really didnt' care for the food here. Â Tried it once, won't go back. Â I'd rather go to one of the other mexican places down the street, or even go to taco bell before I'd come back here. Â Go to one of the other mexican places or better yet, go to Local Harvest in the same building where the food is fantastic :)
Review Source:Wow. Â This was the most bland Mexican food I have ever eaten. Â I spent most of my meal - I ordered a carne asada burrito - wondering if the sauce covering the burrito was canned tomato sauce. Â Service was slow, and I imagine the lack of options on the island are what keeps this place open.
Review Source:I'd give Casa (at the Pavilion) 3.5 stars it it were an option -- it's not Barrio or fancy or authentic Mexican food, but it's really good basic Mexican and the service is always extremely friendly and good. We sit in the bar and really like their Margarita Frescas (made with fresh lime juice).
We've only tried a seafood dish once and won't do it again -- but the chicken, pork, beef and picadillo (a combination of shredded beef and pork) are delicious as is the chili rellano. In particular, the carne asada (ordered rare), the pollo fundido, the enchilada espinaca (spinach enchiladas - with flour tortillas), Burrito loco (with ground beef) are uniformly very good.
I agree with the comments about lack of flavor (except for the pollo fundido, Burrito loco, and spinach enchiladas (the latter of which comes with a very flavorful tomatillo sauce)) -- I usually order extra onions and/or cilantro (to put on top of the enchiladas or carne asada) and add the juice of 1/2 to 1 lime to the soup. You can also ask for hot sauce, pico de gallo, and green (tomatillo) salsa for extra flavor.
They also have a happy hour from 4 to 6 pm where they serve a free appetizer (different one each day of the week).
We like Casa much better than any other Mexican restaurant on the island -- while at another (non-Mexican) restaurant, I once sat at the bar next to the owner of another Mexican restaurant on the island which serves fancier but not nearly as good food as Casa ... he was bemoaning the fact that "people just don't understand what we're trying to do" -- I can tell you that I certainly know what they're trying to do -- they're just not doing it.
This is my standby Mexican restaurant on the island. We almost always eat in the cantina, so the review is primarily for that. We've eaten here probably two times a month for several years.
I've found the food to be decent. Not the most flavorful or the best, but good and very consistent. The salsa they serve with the chips is really good, and I ask for extra of that and poor it on the food to add some flavor.
The service in the bar can be a little hit or miss during off times, but in the evenings it's great. The servers are always accommodating with my rather complicated order requests. Most places on Bainbridge are "family" restaurants, so it's nice that this bar is adults only, if you want to escape being around kids for a night.
If you're looking for fast and delicious without the bar, the food at Casa Roja Express is a little cheaper and really delicious.
Slow service.....unreal....came in and stared at the waitstaff for 10 minutes while they bustled around...oh, wait...nevermind, she came out and dropped off some nachos to the table next to me. Â Didn't even look my way. Â Some of them were holding up the counter and watching baseball. Â While I appreciate that some people work in the Cantina and others the restaurant...but come on... I was making eye contact with them and all they could do was turn away quickly.
Review Source:This place wouldn't be half bad if the food just had a little more flavor. Â Perhaps if they offered hot sauce at the table. Â Because really, it's not a bad place. Â The margaritas are good and the cantina had a decent happy hour the last time I checked. Â A wee little bottle of El Yucateco or Cholula is the only thing keeping this from a 3.5 star review. Â I would ask my waiter to bring hot sauce, but they have a knack for disappearing from the time they deliver your food until it's time to clear the table. Â Fix that, and maybe I'll bump it up to 4 stars...
If you don't care about having a margarita with your meal, go to Casa Rojas Express instead. Â Owned by the same people, but for some reason that shall remain a mystery, the food is much more flavorful.
Casa Rojas isn't AMAZING but they do have the best mexican food on the island. I know it's not saying alot being that we don't have alot of options. My favorite thing and the main reason why I go to Casa Rojas for lunch during the week is their 5.99 lunch special. It's plenty to eat after chips & salsa. Friendly lunch time servers.
Review Source:For great food at a great price this is the place to go. Â Located in the pavilion it is a great family restaurant that is a must on all birthdays - just watch out for the whip cream or the popper that may appear with the song. Â The owner and staff are great and always ready to figure out how to get big parties in even when they are packed.
favorite drink: margarita

You say Mexican, I say Whitebread
Uh, 'best mexican food on the island' ain't sayin much, amigo. True, it doesn't give me an upset stomach, like the 'other' mexi joint on the island, but it is bland and tasteless. I even asked for the family plate - meaning the non-gringoized version. These hombres are so steeped in Whitebread Island culture, they didn't even know what I was talking about! (it is popular with kids and families, so I was hoping they could spice things up for me)
hijole! Â i am hoping that with all the companeros comin over to work on all the construction goin' on around heah, we'll have a kick-ass taco truck soon. you wannie Mexican? You'll have to catch a boat, unless you are lucky enough to know me - my gringo hubby even makes homemade tortillas for me - that's love!
