Hate this place. Â Be ready to be greeted with blank stares, then ignored for awhile before someone finally comes to take your order. Â The food is often preprocessed, but that does not stop Cascade Lakes from taking advantage of their thirsty patrons with the offensively high prices. Two stars for fairly good beer that is well-served.
Review Source:The Cascade Lakes Brewing Company was ok. Â I ordered the smothered chicken burrito. Â It was pretty bland and tasteless. Â I drowned it in hot sauce, which made it a little better... a little. Â To quote my friend "It was ok.... it was filling." Â I will give him that... it was definitely a large burrito and filled me up. Â
Another member of our party ordered the Yakisoba noodles. Â He actually went there two nights in a row and said it was very good. Â However, he was not impressed with the flavor of his mixed drink.
The staff was very friendly and talkative.
I have discovered that there are plenty of great places to eat in Bend, so I most likely will not be making a return visit here.
Standard beer-got the sampler and it had a diverse sample of pretty much every standard style you'd imagine at the average brewery. The beers were decent. Nothing outstanding and nothing horrible. The food was also standard pub fare and was perfectly fine.
Nice big space, family friendly, lots of TV's. Separate bar and restaurant area.
The happy hour food specials are pretty awesome. The beef medallions are very tasty and you get pretty much the equivalent of an entree sized piece of meat, for just $6. Fish tacos are solid and the wings are damn good bar fare.
Beers are very good and the atmosphere is chill.
My only nit pick would be regarding the waitstaff. I've been there solo, hosted large happy hours, dropped lots of money, yet never got any warm fuzzies from the waiters. Nearly to the point where they seem a little put out. Not the kind of impression I think the owners and management want to give. Or, maybe it's a "top-down" issue. Who knows?
I FOUND A WORM IN MY Â NACHOS!!!!!!!
When I found this creature crawling on my food I got up to tell the server IMMEDIATELY. I was going to quietly and calmly tell him what was going on as not to alert other patrons. He rudely said while pointing a finger at me "Can you wait while I deal with other people." I said I was going to try to say it discretely but since I have no choice there is a worm in my food!!! He quickly got rid of my plate and asked if I wanted anything else to eat....uhh no. I asked to speak with the manager once I left and I was going to ask HOW a worm gets into my plate. The manager was also our server and the response was ....."It happens". I WILL NEVER be returning to this establishment because I for one do not believe that worms just happen....
This falls into the category of "I really wanted to like this place, but..."
This was a generally dissapointing dining experience from start to finish. Â The beer was underwhelming, as was the food. Â OK, it's a brew pub - I get that. Â But when ordering we asked how the fried chicken was and we were told it didn't turn out well so it was not on the menu that evening. Â Kudos to our server for being honest. Â Hell, kudos to the kitchen as well, but that's mighty strange that the entire stock of chicken was taken off the menu. Â Maybe it was as issue with the supplier, but (in hindsight) that was not a good sign of things to come.
PROS: Â Honest server; punctual service; good fries and onion rings.
CONS: Underwhelming beer (and wine) and food. Â
Red Ale and nitro Cyclops IPA where "eh" - neither had as much hops as expected, and that's from someone who doesn't care for the West Coast style IPAs (too freaking bitter). Â Cowboy burger was a decent burger and fries were good. Â Asian style short ribs were average at best, as far as ribs go. Â Not a good selection of wines and ones ordered were weak (OK, maybe that's the fault of the person ordering).
Overall, wouldn't recommend it and wouldn't go back.  We neglected to get a beer sampler before ordering our single beers and I might go back to just try their other beers to see how they are, but I don't have high hopes based on the two  we tried.
T'was a hot day, so showing up and having to wait for the bartender to get through serving some locals, chatting with a server and washing a few glasses before getting to us for our beer order (hot = thirsty), wasn't a great start.
However, the food was great (Portabella mushroom sandwich and a grilled chicken sandwich), the Rye pale seasonal was also damned tasty, and best of all, the bartender sensed a disturbance in the force, and comped one of our pints (we just had 2 before the B'Fest. Totally professional recovery, and appreciated.
Some of the locals chucking change at a tip jar didn't make for the greatest entertainment, but maybe I was just cranky because of the heat.
Not impressed with the beer said all of the 5 boys or so in our group and they luv beer. Â That being said, most of us had the prime rib special and at 13.95 it was a big hunk of meat done perfectly medium rare served with au jus, mashers and veggies. Â
The problem was no one liked the beer and we headed over to the Bend Brewfest and that made everyone happy.
Overall very happy with lodge. Â Would have given 5 stars except service was a bit slow. Â Appetizers were half off at happy hour and delicious. Â Fried oysters were fresh and flavorful as was the artichoke crab dip w pita. Â Salmon sliders were excellent as well.
Only tried the nitro conditioned cyclops iPa which was amazing. Â Smooth, hop forward and well balanced combined with happy hour prices make this a great choice for food and drink.
Great food & beer. I usually don't submit reviews -  but wanted to counter other reviews . This is the third brewery we have  gone to three days - great menu selection! Had fried oysters as appetizer , elk burger and my husband got a patty melt - substituted elk for beef. We were well taken care of . Strongly recommend!
Review Source:4 stars for the waitstaff- our server was extremely attentive and make sure to keep everyone's water glasses filled all night
3 stars for the atmosphere- we came here for bingo last night. It was fun and seemed like a good mix of families, regulars, and tourists.
2 stars for the food- order a grilled chicken salad with goat cheese, poached pears, mixed greens, carrots, and cucs. The chicken was a little funky and I don't think even white meat. I understand this place is more of a pub, but atleast have a good salad like Bend Brewing Co or 10 Barrel. Â I concur with the rest of reviews in regards to the food.
Great beer, mediocre pub grub.
When we first arrived, we were told there would be a 15 minute wait, but then for some reason our table was ready in like 3 minutes which was awesome! Â Went on a Friday night around 6:30, and there were still some open tables. Â e all had a few different of the house brews and they were all really good. Â The food was OK, but nothing out of the ordinary. Â Next time I am skiing in Bend I will dine elsewhere. Â We went to the Deschutes pub another night, and it was WAY better.
In a town known for its local breweries, Cascade Lakes Lodge isn't the fanciest of places, but it's a laid back, comfort food and good beer restaurant.
The beer stands out. Â Cascade Lakes Brewing Co. has a number of surprisingly flavorful beer choices. Â The Blonde Bombshell, at first appearance, looks like it could be a hefeweizen from its color alone, but the flavor recalls a vanilla cream soda. Â The stout is equally creamy, with a stand-out chocolate taste. Â The pale ale is less bitter than its hoppy IPA brethren, but it firmly holds your taste buds to attention.
The beer is 5 star material, and the food is closer to 3 stars. Â The comfort food served here is warm, delicious, filling and soothing. Â It'll put a smile on your face and remind you of fire places and 'grand ma's'. Â I ordered the chicken pot pie (much bigger than I expected, with a rich and flaky crust).
And if you're in the mood for a little 80s style reverie, pull out a couple quarters and give Ms. PacMan a twirl. Â Pool tables are upstairs, and the game's on.
Casade Lakes is a little off the beaten path being outside of Bend's downtown. But it's worth the trip. Â And be sure to buy a mixed sample six pack on the way out so you can enjoy the beer again and again.
Cascade Lakes definitely kicked off our Bend trip right. We stumbled upon their happy hour that runs Mon-Fri from 4-6 where the imperial pints are only $3.25. I'm just going to say now that it was trouble. But it was the good kind, not the go directly to jail kind.
I had been here once before and knew they had a solid regular line-up but this time we went for a lot of their seasonal items. We had the Riverside Red which was nice and malty. The winter ale was good but didn't stand out much. The Cyclops IPA was interesting, a little on the sweet side for my overly-hopped Portland palate. And then there was my love at first sight. The King Kong Porter, he was tall dark and handsome with great head. Mmmm. Â
And what did they have to soak up all the beer? A pretty decent pub menu. We went with the oyster shooters. Those little buggers were so slick and tasty we had to order another round. The fried oysters were pretty blah as the batter was too thick and lacking in flavor. Our chicken Caesar salad was quite excellent with bacon and Tumalo cheese and it was huge.
The space definitely has that ski lodge feel to it and is pretty casual. Lots of locals were around to watch the World Series. It's good to be a local here as they have a mid week night with deals just for them. Our waitress Kendra was very attentive and had enough spunk to wrangle the rowdy group next to us.
Don't miss this place if you're in Bend, especially during Happy Hour or you might just anger the Beer gods and we don't want that do we?
I write objective and fair reviews. Read on folks. My wife and I had lunch here on Sept. 30, 2011. This was our first experience here. We had just traveled from Tualatin. We arrived at 1:30 pm and there was hardly anyone there. Okay with us. Lunch hour proper had passed. Gradually more late lunchers arrived. Upon entering the staff greeted us with some but not great enthusiasm. We sat outside for some late summer weather. It is noisy outside due to traffic but it isn't intrusive enought to move back inside. We liked it ok.
Our server was "on her game." She was enthusiastic in a genuine sort of way, warm and gave us perfect service throughout our meal. She appeared to be the kind of person who wasn't putting on a front. We both ordered burgers, my wife had a spicy one with jalapeno's and me the Cowboy Up burger with bacon and blue cheese. The burgers were cooked, assembled and presented perfectly. For once in our long experience of ordering burgers in restaurants the beef was cooked medium as we requested! My bacon was crispy as requested (hard to get) and the blue cheese was everywhere....yum! Although bag french fries, they were cooked perfectly with a crisp exterior. This is attention to cooking temp and cook time. Well done!
One little surprise was to get homemade cole slaw. I don't know how many readers enjoy cole slaw, but if you do and you are here in Bend try thiers! It is obviously homemade with a light touch of dressing. The addition of a few small bits of parsely and some fresh cranberries makes this stand above most all others I have tried. This is the chef paying attention to all elements of his food. They could easily have purchased this pre-prepared.
Finally, the beer. The beer is the only reason for one missing star in our rating. We had 2 pints a piece sampling four different kinds. They were full bodied and tasty to some extent, but not distinctive. We waited for more flavor to come though after the beginning of each sip and it didn't. They are pleasant, not bad, full bodied beers. If you prefer craft/draft beers with a more robust, present flavor profile for whatever you are drinking, you will need to search elsewhere.
All things considered we recommend this establishment.
I have been here a couple of times and each of them, one thing has made me come back. The beer. The selection of beers that are brewed here in Bend are astonishing. This town has it going on. This place is no exception to the quality of the beer culture here. They have 16 of their beers on tap! It is a nice stop on the way back from the Cascade Lakes Highway.
The pub food here is ok. It isn't anything out of the ordinary. The service is lower than ordinary. The lodge itself is nice, kind of out of the way....can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. I think I will be back!
Some of the best traditional buffalo style wings around. The key to their deliciousness is that they are nice and crisp under the sauce. They are served with a nice thick and creamy bleu cheese dressing (non of that crappy Kraft bottled crap) and the traditional carrots and celery sticks. These are pretty no nonsense and straight forward wings, but so good our party of four ordered another round. Do yourself a favor and go straight for the ring of fire.
Review Source:The taster tray is a good deal at $7 and had great beers. My boyfriend says the Monkey Face is the best Porter he's ever had! Food was good and service was good. Nothing super extroardinary though...However...their oyster shooter was the second oyster shooter I've tried and I think I am a fan of them now because their's were pretty tasty:)
Review Source:I've been in Bend several times over the last year or so for work. Â Fortunately it was on one of my earlier trips that I found Cascade Lakes Lodge, and their sister establishments - 7th Street Brew Pub and Red Dog Depot in Redmond.
I've had lunch and dinner both, and to tell the truth - the food is OK. Â Nothing particularly special. Â I've never had anything bad, but nothing has been outstanding either. Â Service has always been good, and the kitchen is reasonably quick, it's pretty easy to get lunch well within an hour, and dinner (which is the same menu) doesn't take any longer.
The real reason I go here is the beer.  One night I tried their Monkeyface Porter  with dinner, and ended up having two.  Then I tried the Bombshell blonde - which has label graphics that would make Jessica Rabbit blush.  I think next was the 20" brown, and after that it all just starts to disappear into a delicious, beer-soaked fog.  Suffice it to say that I've made every attempt to return often enough to try their seasonal brews, and usually throw a cooler in the trunk so I can take a case or so back home.  Sadly, they do not distribute, so I'm forced to stock up when I visit and then stoop to lesser products for weeks at a time when I run out.
While not the best Bend has to offer it is good and when it's really good it's great. But it tends to be inconsistent. It's a nice place to take the kids because of the larger space than most of the restaurants in Bend but their kids menu is frozen crap you'd get a chain. The Cowboy Up burger is very good as is their Asian Steak Salad and the Kobe Sliders.
Review Source:Gosh, how I have tried to like this place. I have been there many times, and even more times to its sister pubs in Redmond (Seventh Street Pub- the single worst "nacho", and I use that term loosely, in human history, and the Red Dog Depot), and yet I keep having to ask myself why I go back. I'll admit, this last time it had been nearly a year, and I had forgotten how absolutely mediocre it is in everything it does. I took clients there, and my wife, and again, yet again, we all yawned at the food, yawned at the beer (The Grizzly Mt Stout is . . . well, OK, and so is their signature Rooster Tail ale), and yawned at the whole place- though the prices were higher which makes no sense. DEAR GOD THERE ARE BETTER OPTIONS! It does have kind of a touristy, mountain style, so I guess the folks who can't find the good pubs downtown as they sprint between Mount Bachelor and the hotel, famished from their day at the mountain, keep it afloat. But dear Lord, couldn't they improve a little over the years? Beer- bland. Food- also bland. Prices- High for the quality you get. Much better prices at the better pubs. Margaritas are awful. Taco night is not as good as it sounds. And the decor is tv's on every corner, cement floors, and cafeteria style. Not so bad in a pub, of course, but I was looking for something good to say, and I can't find anything. What a bummer. Should be good, and I really would love for it to be. I have read good reviews on the web, but mostly it seems from tourists who are high- high on Bend, high on mountain biking, high on kayaking, high on snowboarding, high on Bend living. I know that sort of travel high can make bad places seem good. I have had that feeling in places like Puerto Vallarta, Vegas, and Mount Shasta City. But when I tell a local, they look at me like I'm nuts. Well, buddy . . . I'm lookin' at ya like you're nuts.
Review Source:Both he food and service were good. Â The back patio was nice. The manager had a very cute Golden Retriever sitting near our table. We got their beer sampler and thought it was okay. Â I'm a man who likes big and powerful flavors in beer, and none of their beers really had that. Â The blond bombshell was quite the tasty ale though.
Review Source:I went last night with my family to have dinner. Â Although it was crowded, the wait time was less than 5 minutes. Â We had Mediterranean Platter for appetizer and it was okay. Â The bread was good, however, I have eaten better tasting hummus in other places. Â The seasonal Pilsner I had was awesome!! The black bean burger with fries was really good. Â My kids had Portebella mushroom on a hoggie roll and they loved it. Â The server was courteous and food was brought quickly. Â Overall I like this place.
Review Source:I had lunch at Cascades with my husband, his parents and our toddler. Â Our server was friendly and attentive and brought crayons and paper for my little one immediately, which always scores bonus points.
We all ordered beers--I had the Blonde Bombshell, my husband had the IPA, my father-in-law had the Monkey Face Porter and my mother-in-law had the Brown Ale. Â The kidlet had lemonade. Â Everyone enjoyed their beverages; so much so that we all had to try a second just to make sure.
My father-in-law and I both had the special that day--a turkey and swiss wrap. Â Those suckers were huge! Â They came with a huge pile of fries and I was in piglet heaven. Â My mother-in-law ordered a salad w/salmon and said it was delicious. Â My husband had a burger and fries and seemed to like that, as well. Â My son had grilled cheese and was happy as a clam.
Although the food and service were both great, as well as their brews, I don't see that I'll be going to Cascade all that frequently. Â The location is kind of strange, at the corner of the roundabout at Century Drive and Chandler. Â The vibe inside seems somehow strangely corporate. Â Kind of the Starbucks vibe.
Since it was such a nice day, we opted to dine outside on the patio. Â Not such a great idea considering that their patio is pretty much on the side of the highway. Â There's nothing like sucking up exhaust fumes while trying to enjoy a beer and sandwich.
I think I would like this place a whole lot more if it were in a different location. Â 4 stars for beer, food and service, minus one star for the location and slightly overpriced bar food.
I went here with a bunch of friends, there was minimal wait for the table, it was even set up with a crayons and a sheet of paper for my friend's little squirt to scribble on.
The table we got was pretty cool, under the glass were old ski passes and my native Bend compatriot new a bunch of the guys and girls and knew which ones had gotten married and so on.
I can't give this place a full five for the 2 bad meals. Â I had the gyro, but it could've been described as meat, lettuce, and sauce in a warm, crumbly pita taco wrap. Â It wasn't even wrapped up like a gyro and started to break apart when I first picked it up. Â
The other thing I wouldn't get is the vegetarian yakisoba noodles, there were supposed to have just a hint of spiciness to them, but they were really spicy with a lingering aftertaste of the heat.
We were waiting to get into our river view condo at Mt. Bachelor Village, and decided to head down to Cascade while we waited. Â We had just finished a long drive and were in need for something to get us ready for the Spearhead show that night. Â As a beer snob I have to say I was impressed with the brews. Â I normally judge a place by their IPA, and their offering was quite good. Â I was also happy with their selection of other beers and the fact that they did offer one on nitro.
The food was good, a little above average for brew pub food...
Our waitress / bartender was top notch! Â Kick ass local, who did a fantastic job of handling a full room, while keeping everyone with a beverage in front of them.
We had to try this spot during a recent drinking tour of Bend. We were very disappointed, partially because we stopped by the sister saloon on foot and they told us the lodge was just down the street. Five blocks later we were in the standard large-restaurant brewery. Their food was okay and the beer was average. I'm into unique atmosphere and this was not it. Head to Bend Brewing Company instead.
Review Source:Went here to try some Oregon brews. Â I got the Stout and the Pale Ale. Â Both pretty good. Â I would say the taste was beyond the "microbrew" tastes. Â A little deeper and with less reliance on super-hoppy tastes.
The place itself is larger than it appears, with bar tables, regular tables (outside the main bar area), and a  largish bar.  There is a ~30inch tube TV and a ~42 inch plasma at the bar which at the time was tuned to "World's Strongest Man."  This place is not really a place to pick up girls or anything in case you were wondering.  But it is a relaxing atmosphere and the beer is actually quite cheap ($3.00).
The food surprised me a little for bar food. Â I got a veggie burger and fries both of which were good. Â My friend got yakisoba - didn't taste it but it looked too fancy for that place, somehow...
The men's restroom had some interesting pictures above the urinals to add to the kind of "rural" "lodginess" of the bar.
