This place is straight aces. Â The wife and I strolled in for an after dinner drink and, well, that quickly turned into several after dinner drinks and some great conversation with the owners.
The drinks - As a fan of craft brews and a casual home brewer I love seeing places pouring quality brews. Â The dozen or so taps had an array of local and national craft brews: White Birch, Founders, Peak, etc. Â I know nothing about wine, but my old lady was impressed with the few she tried. Â The bartenders and owners seemed to know their stuff and you could tell they took pride in their selection of wines and beers.
The food - We arrived after the kitchen had closed but we did get the home made hummus plate which was perfect. Â The menu was replete with lighter options that sounded very intriguing and some other patrons had only great things to say about the food.
The company - It was a little slow towards the end of the night but both Andy and Alana (the owners) took time to chat with us about the bar, their love of the business, and many other topics. Â Nice gestures like this go a long way for me. Â Ivan, the other bartender, was also extremely friendly and welcoming.
If you want a Coors Light or PBR (as we all do at some point) this is not your place. Â But if you want quality beer and good conversation I cannot recommend Cask and Vine enough. Â If you're in/near Derry check it out, you won't regret it.
My husband and I go to the Cask & Vine about once a week. Â The atmosphere is wonderful and very relaxing. The music is low, and the lighting is perfect. Â
The staff are fantastic and extremely knowledgeable. Â There is always something new on tap. Â It is so nice for Derry to have such a wonderful place in town. Â My husband and I know that we can't just spend a half an hour there to grab a "quick drink". Â Every time we go we end up being there for over two hours. Â We can't help but get sucked into the ambiance.
The food is delicious. Â The portions are just the right size for me.
We are lucky to have this sophisticated place in our (almost) backyard. They were packed at 7:30 on Saturday night, though it thinned out by 9. Â So get a reservation for busy times. The service from enthusiastic young people was excellent. To help them build their success, I hope they get more late evening guests. Even when it was packed, it was quiet, and the background music was set low enough to permit conversation.
My husband had a flight of two red wines and I had the full flight of two whites and two reds. Â They presented the wines in mini-decanters on place mats printed with wine descriptions and recommended pairings, a real plus. We had suitable goblets for the reds and the whites. We both enjoyed their choices, exposing us to wines we don't normally get.
The chef is remarkably productive in the little, under-equipped kitchen. He had 30 orders backed up at the peak period, but I would guess most people, like us, were there to enjoy the evening without any rush. The flat bread appetizer and the flan were outstanding. The spinach salad, wrap sandwich, salmon, and bread pudding were all very good. Best, all the food is made with real ingredients. I liked the serving sizes which allowed room for several courses. After the wine, flat bread, salmon, and flan, I was stuffed.
I went to this place last Friday with a group of 11 to celebrate my husband's birthday. Â From the outside, I was unsure that they would be able to seat all of us as the place does look small from the outside. However we were able to sit comfortably without feeling like we were taking over. Â I really like it here, it has a very relaxed atmosphere. Â I live just down the street and find myself having to leave the area in search of a good place to hang out so I'm glad I found one that's within walking distance. Â The drinks are a little expensive but alchol content was a lot higher than common beer. Â I like that the servers were pleasant- not annoyingly perky and over the top. I hate feeling like I have to match my waitress's enthusiasm when ordering food. Â They were was also great at recommending drinks and foods based on what everyone normally likes.
Now on to the food-I had a turkey and brie wrap. Â A lot of times places will try and fill a wrap with everything else so that you can barely find the protein, but not this place. Â I also got to try a lot of what my friends ordered and the overall consensus was that everything was delicious. Â Point being, I'll probably be here on my next date night.
I said i would update if i had any complaint. Â I can say i have not 100% enjoyed one thing. The clam chowder. Everyone else liked it that i was with but i like thicker clam chowder. Â One thing that had gotten better is the portion size. I don't know if it was people complaining (besides on here) but they listened because everything has gotten a bit bigger. Â Prices have not gone up either, that's all i cared about. Â The swordfish was on special this week. Â it was like butter, holy chow.
Review Source:If you are tired of dark, noisy bars lined with tv screens, you are ready for Cask & Vine. A perfect place to meet, talk and spend an enjoyable night out.
The place is perfectly lit and cozy, and the food is fantastic. We had a bunch of friends there this weekend, and everyone RAVED about the food! Right-sized portions of scratch made dishes.
Also, the selection of craft beers and wines is great. A lot of local brewers and 12 taps running!
If you want an extraordinary time, check this place out.
Amazing place! Â Definately one of a kind and so needed in the area. Â Fantastic beer and wine selection with an amazing atmosphere and delicious small plate food. Â Been there twice with different groups of people and everyone loves the food, drinks and atmosphere. Â Staff was great and super friendly!!! Â Cant wait to go back! Â The coffeehouse porter is so tasty. Â Highly recommend checking it out. Â Just plan on staying for a while and getting hooked! Â Thanks Alana and Andy
Review Source:Pros: Rally nice atmosphere, friendly staff and a decent selection of beer and wine. (The bartender is easy on the eyes - always a pro!)
Cons: Food. Don't go hungry because the portions are comical. Seriously. Tiny. Â (The apps were the same). I had to look out the window a few times to check and see if I had been transported to LA, where people starve themselves on purpose.
I would absolutely go back for a drink but I'd eat before I go next time.
Finally something good in Derry! My husband and I tried it Friday night and loved the wide variety of wine and beer. Food was served hot, and although the portions are small, it's just enough. There is a small turn around however, once people sit and start drinking, they don't leave for a long time. Go early or make reservations to ensure a good seat. We will definitely be heading back.
Review Source:I could not be happier that Cask & Vine has opened in Derry. My boyfriend and I visited, for the first time, last Friday night. After a long work week, it was the PERFECT way to enjoy a glass of wine and some unbelievable food. We tried the hummus plate (BEST hummus I have EVER, EVER had - my boyfriend doesn't even like hummus and he said it was awesome), the pear and bleu cheese flatbread (absolutely amazing. The flavors could NOT have gone together any better) and the goat cheese strudel (not sure if that's the correct name) but it was fantastic. Both my boyfriend and I asked the waitress for suggestions as far as beer and wine went and she was a great help, we loved her suggestions. The service was great - I cannot say enough about this place, I am so happy that it's here!! My boyfriend went back with a friend the following night - and we're going back together tonight. Cask & Vine is a great addition to Derry and a MUST try.
Review Source:This place definitely fills a need in a Derry, somewhere to relax and enjoy quality food and drinks. Â I went on opening night and enjoyed ephemere on tap and the apple & pear crisp (and they were great together!). Â The owners are quality people who care deeply about serving only the best to their customers. Â I can't wait to spend many more evenings at Cask & Vine!
Review Source:There really should be more places like Cask & Vine. Â The concept of a cool place to hang out with small-plate apps centered around craft beer and wine is new to the southern NH food scene, but I'm glad it's finally arrived.
The owners, Andy and Alana are both really cool people too -- passionate crafties and wine fanatics who are not only dedicated to the craft arts (also evidenced by their other beer/wine expedition, The Drinkery in Londonderry, NH), but they're really enjoyable to talk to as well. Â They're big into locally sourced products and decor for their new venture, and you just can't help but get behind that mentality.
As far as recommendations go, I had the hummus and the turkey wrap with brie and cranberry, which were both pretty solid, and my favorite beer of the afternoon by far was Lunch by Maine Beer Company -- a perfectly-hopped and full-bodied IPA with some hidden sweet notes in the background that make for a really well-rounded brew.
The menu could still use a few more options, as I felt most of the food items were better paired with the wine list as opposed to the brews. Â Maybe offer some upscale bar snacks? Â Deviled eggs, roasted nuts, flatbread pizza? Â Something along those lines. Â But that's what's great about this place, constantly rotating menu items and tap selections, so I'm hoping some new beer-oriented items will appear here soon.
If there's ever a place that's got five-star potential, its C&V. Â It's tough being so far away in Boston, so I know I won't get the chance to be a regular, but I'll be visiting for sure when I'm back home visiting the folks. Â I'm really looking forward to revisit this review to see how far C&V can rise.
Cool space - very open with room to spread out. Â They have about a dozen beers on tap - none of which I've seen at other places in the area. Â There were a few beers on tap there that I'd never heard of - they offer beer sampler setups where you can try small pours of a few beers. Â In my visit there were at least two rare/hard to find beers there on tap. Â
The bar is a good size and there are tables for food (I've not tried the eats yet.) Â
I'm pretty excited to see top notch beer being available on tap (some on nitro) in this neck of the woods.
