Do not order wood fired salmon! It was so over cooked, dry, no flavor....Really bad. Reminded me of airplane food, when they used to serve it on planes....Mushrooms with it were from a can, no flavor...with the spinach. The mashed potatoes were good!!! Those potatoes were real mashed and were good. Veggies were fine. But we really wanted a nice salmon filet and it was awful :(
Waitress was nice. But we just couldn't even begin to tell her how bad salmon was.
Oh well....
Dessert was good, we took that to go.
gotta get the Zach's Three Cheese Chicken Mac with an extra cup of cheese on the side and asking them to replace the chicken with fried chicken. that extra cup of cheese sawce makes such a world's difference, because more sawce the better!
dipping mac and cheese in some more cheese?! cheese-ception?!
also, free popcorn?! dipping that in the cheese sawce too!?
4.5/5 for the cheese sawce.
Nice local restaurant in Mequon. Had some sort of bacon cheeseburger for lunch. It was your standard bacon cheeseburger. Big and a little messy, the way I like it. Fries were tasty, the service was prompt though insistent on everyone being orderly ("Everyone pay attention so I don't have to say the special a third time. Or I'll say them again, but listen up." --HA)
They have a special deal here for teachers I believe? Like 20% off? I dunno, I was barely paying attention, but pretty sweet. Pretty much saves you the cost of the tip, ya know?
The experience here was amazing from the beginning to the very second we walked out the door. The bartender was super friendly and made wonderful drink suggestions...which were yummy of course! The ambience of the place was that of a comfortable hometown bar in the north woods. Interesting considering the outside decor of the building but pleasantly surprising nonetheless. I was there for a birthday, so while the birthday girl was away I asked the bartender to pass along a birthday desert surprise to our server. So after a few delicious cocktails at the bar, we moved to the dining room. The only small complaint I had was that there were far to many servers standing at the hostess stand...I work in this industry and that many people standing at the front is uncomfortable and intimidating to customers. However, I didn't dock them on my rating because the experience continued to blow me away. Our dinner was sooo delicious, it came out quick, Â and our server was spot on service-wise. My birthday surprise was just the perfect end to a nearly perfect experience...patron espresso shots and a homemade cream puff...what a treat! We got up to leave and were greeted a good night, Â and right before opening the door the bartender yelled good bye as well...made us feel special. I am not easily impressed because I am a manager in the service industry and am constantly critiquing the experience, and I must say The Chancery is well deserving of this five star rating because it was without a doubt a five star experience.
Review Source:I really hate doing this. I don't like giving bad reviews in the slightest, but I have to. My experience at Chancery was pretty awful. I was with a party of three and we all ordered soups. They brought out the wrong soup for one person and didn't include the pretzels that are advertised with the beer cheese soup for the rest of us. Mix ups aside, the soups were fine. However, I ordered a salad and when it arrived at the table it was completely inedible. Visibly brown and slimey lettuce, minimal dressing and the taste was completely awful. I sent it back without taking more than one bite. They told me they were going to complete a quality inspection after my sending the dish back but at that point I was so disgusted there was no chance of my being able to order anything else. If that wasn't enough, our waiter kept hovering around our table and apologizing profusely. That would have been welcome, if he hadn't stood there for 5 minutes at a crack, repeatedly, continually talking about how sorry he was, and how awful that was, and blah blah blah. It was so much so that I felt that I couldn't talk to my dining guests.
Really, overall, terrible experience. Won't be going back.
Don't know why I went back a second time after my boyfriend and I showed up during lunch time and stood around for about five minutes wondering where the wait staff and hostess was? There were people sitting and eating yet absolutely NO one greeted us or even payed attention to us. We went into the bar area and there was no one working in there either. One of the strangest experiences ever.
Second time around we enjoyed extremely poor service where our server never asked us if we would like dessert or a box to go and just gave us our check and walked away....didn't even as if we were done. Never gave us water or refills. We also had a strange experience with the woman sitting behind us letting out a shrill scream in order to get her kids to stop talking.
NEVER GOING BACK.
I like this place. Friendly for the whole family and food is descent. Had the rib wrap, which honestly didn't seem like it was ribs (even sans the bones). Not exactly sure what it seemed like. I liked it though. I would have given more stars if the wrap had more of whatever meat was in there. Was a whole lot of deep fried onion strings and lettuce and very little meat for $10. Again though, it tasted good.
Review Source:Ick! Â This is one of those situations when I was pissed at myself for eating here when I could have Yelped a cafe down the street that looked much better! Shame on me!
So, the only highlight was the beer cheese soup but it didn't come with the pretzel as promised....MINUS. Â The bloody I ordered was so nasty and all the fixin's were old...I mean really old...the pickle and olive did not have any flavor like and had been left out for days. Â Just gross....MINUS 2 Â I ordered a lunch special, Pizza Bread, where you add your own toppings. Â Sounded good....got there and it was basically a hamburger bun with pasta sauce on it....MINUS 3.
Will not be returning. Â It was nasty.
One of my favorite places to eat. Beer is always cold. Happy hour always provides 2 for 1 beers and half priced appetizers. Good menu selection and high quality food. Service is better in the bar than in the rest of the dining room. Great place to hang out and watch a game or just to enjoy a good dinner with friends or family.
Review Source:There are few places that really do a good job welcoming kids and adults equally and The Chancery is one of them. They have a wide-ranging menu (burgers, pasta, grilled fish, salads, etc.) and their food is consistently very good - I've never been disappointed. Â The service at Chancery really stands out - patient with crowds and antsy children, happy to help, and good on time. The decor is very family-northwoods-y.
My latest favorite is the fish tostadas. Â The fish is fantastic with the mango on it and while unusual, I like that it's paired with wild rice rather than a weak attempt at Spanish/Mexican rice. Â Black beans also come with the dish and were on the blah side. Their kids' menu is good, cheap and provides plentiful leftovers.
I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 because while I'm happy to go there, I don't get excited. Â I'm happy with the food and I regularly clean my plate, but I don't necessarily crave it. Â I really dig the fish tostadas, but I'd rather swap out the tostada shells for taco shells - much more practical for eating.
I went there with a work group at lunch. Â I know lunch is tough to serve because I used to be in the business. Â The waitress was very pleasant and was very nice to accept separate checks with a smile. Â The food is excellent. There is a wide selection of sandwiches, burgers, pizzas for lunch. Â
I'd consider it a step above TGI Fridays.
We were pleasantly surprised with this place even though it ended up being a little expensive. Â Went there Friday night after a bit of shopping in Bayshore and Mequon. Â I had the Cheesehead Dream Cheeseburger and it was done absolutely perfect. Â It had a ton of flavor with all of the cheeses, the bun was perfect, all in all a very good burger. Â My fiance had the Baked Cod with Rice. Â The fish was pretty good for being baked, it had some spices and the tartar sauce was ok, however it lacked something. Â With tip the bill was $48 for 2 beers, a Cheeseburger, cup of soup, and baked Cod. Â I know its expensive to eat out but to me that doesn't seem like a very good value.
Review Source:I might be a little partial because I worked at The Chancery in high school... BUT I absolutely love The Chancery. Â The food is amazing, the atmosphere is totally Wisconsin and the service is reliable. Â
The food: Waffle fries? Â Beer cheese soup with a bavarian bretzel?! Â An artichoke dip and mushroom smothered burger... a fried chicken sandwich with garlic mayo... Cheesehead dream burger with cheese, sour cream, bacon.... mmm my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Â They've got everything you could want - enough to make anyone fat and happy. Â There's also salads and lighter fare if you so choose to defy the Wisconsin love-fried or cheesy foods.
The atmosphere: wood, pictures of fishing trips, old granny carpet... this place is amazing.
Tip: Â On Tuesdays (at least while I lived there) kids ate for 1 penny/inch of their height. Â So if your kid is 45 inches tall then their meal would be 45 cents. Â The cool part (i'm not really into kids actually) is that the pole they use to measure all the kids' heights I actually painted!! Â Go check out my handy work!
I can't say enough about The Chancery... and won't leave a vacation back home without going at least twice!
This place is probably not going to completely awe you with their culinary expertise, but it's a consistenly easy place to stop by, especially with family and/or young kids. Â Very casual environment and a well-rounded, traditional menu with something for everyone (sandwiches, salads, burgers, etc). Â Used to seem a bit more kitcshy to me when I was a kid, but I think they've toned it down a bit and now is more in the Applebees realm. Â PLEASE try the peanut butter cup dessert, your head will probably explode. Â Yes, it's that good!
