Our food was nothing special. We had the crab and shrimp quesadillas and would NOT recommend them again. They basically consisted of what tasted like spoiled cheese and no seafood. We didn't even finish one slice of them. Our service was pretty spotty too. Overall, there are much better Tex Mex restaurants in the same price range to choose from.

Friendly service and sub-par Mexican food in a tired and depressing environment. I will never come back. Ever.

Also, the changing table in the women's restroom is so creaky that I worried it would fall off the table as my baby was lying on it.

surprised this has such a low rating. I think the food tastes great, the drinks are strong, and the chips n salsa is the best! I've had only one experience with a not so great server but every other time they are attentive, quick, and friendly. I hope they stay open as long as they can

Fantastic franchise. This location is generally well managed. Food is consistently good with only one exception. Have been here several times and have had great servers. Only complaint is the poorly designed parking lot that is shared with other nearby restaurants.

Went in for late lunch, place was somewhat empty, but service was HORRIBLE! Maybe they just don't have enough staff. I used to be a regular here but it's just no where near as good as it used to be.

The food was good, I'd give it 3-4 stars but I can't overall because I was there a long time just for lunch.

This place was nasty.. Everything tasted like old chili powder and their special beef was only ground beef with chili powder mixed in.. My husband and I couldn't even finish our plates so we boxed them and left.

Only tasty thing I liked was their guacamole.. But that's it.

Every once is a while we like to go to Chevy's.  I am much more a fan of local Mexican restaurants than chains, but Chevy's can be very good.

I had a really bad day - driving home from work I got into a car accident.  While no one was hurt, I'm afraid my poor car will never be the same.  My wife suggested Chevy's and the first thought that popped into my head was their Giant Margarita.

The food (Fajita's) was good.  But, their chips and salsa are really outstanding.

I've been here several times and remember it being much better.

I got the cheese enchiladas, refried beans and rice. The chilliness were average maybe, not that good. The beans were terrible, I like my refried beans to be mush, they were whole and cold. The rice wasnt very good either.

    I left hungry.

Skip this place! Husband & I were looking for a quick, economical lunch while shopping in Schaumburg. This was NOT the place! Salsa tasted like tomato sauce, the chips were unsalted & greasy, the food was bad & greasy and the wait staff was inattentive & rude. Further more, our water & lunch tacos came to $35...ridiculous. Don't go.

This is not authentic Mexican food.  All their PIcadillo* meat is marinated.  The restroom is difficult to get to due to the seating arrangements.  The food is very  "franchisee".

*Picadillo:  In Mexico, the dish usually calls for onions and lime to be stirred into the meat while it cooks. The sauce is sometimes sweetened by adding sugar to the pan that the meat and sauce are being fried in or, more recently, by using honey, giving the finished meal a somewhat teriyaki or bulgogi like taste. Raisins may also be added to taste.

Two stars only bc the Manager came to my table to apologize and comp my meal. I ordered the veg lunch bowl, extra black beans. It came out with just rice and undercooked carrots. When I asked the waitress about my dish, she said the kitchen had changed it but the menu hadn't been updated yet. She made it seem like it was my fault and they would try again just to accommodate.  It came back interesting, but tasted ok. It was 45 minutes before I got to eat.  Not happy and wouldn't recommend. It wasn't even busy when I was there.

This place is awful.  The restaurant was nearly empty and yet it took forever to be served and even longer to actually get our food. When we did, it was not hot and looked like someone had picked through and eaten any food that might have been worth eating.

I've been here three times over the past few years and each time my experience was worse. Never again.

Desperate for good Tex-Mex, my wife and I gave this a try a few weeks ago.  It's good, but not great:

    - Chips are tasty, the thin style is always tough to stop eating
    - Salsa was very smoky/chipotle, and was good but not spicy enough
    - It would be great if they had more salsas to choose from
    - I had a fajita chipotle chicken burrito both times I was there (yeah, need to change it up next time) and it was good.  This whole restaurant seems to orbit the chipotle pepper versus the jalapeno, and generally I prefer the latter
    - The black beans are good, not too watery
    - Chicken quesadillas are good
    - Can't try the refriend beans because they have pork in them (boo!)

As other reviewers have noted, the service here is great/friendly, and the restaurant doesn't feel crowded.  The iced tea is good too.

Overall, I vacillated between three and four stars on this one.  I actually found the food to be tasty but a bit bland for Tex-Mex.  But it was still good, and I have a bias toward Tex-Mex so even mid-range Tex-Mex is still good Tex-Mex for me.  But the good service and homemade tortillas (always a requirement) push it closer to four stars than three!

Friendly waiter making amazing Guac table-side - Yup I'd make the trip way out to the burbs for that again!
Visiting friends in the area so they suggested Chevy's. I am always a bit leery of chain Mexican but WOW everything was very tasty. Food and Service was fast but not rushed.

Went here with a +1 last night.  Sadly I didn't have super high expectations, but that changed when we walked in - the place was pretty packed for 5pm!  (Walking out the door at 6:40, there was an ever-forming crowd waiting to be seated.)  The chips and salsa were phenom - probably one of the best salsas I've had (dark, smoky, not too watery like most salsas are).

He had the San Antonio Chicken Quesadilla and I had the Farmer's Market Enchiladas.  He thought there was too much BBQ sauce on the quesadillas; I had a bite and thought they were pretty good.  I LOVED my enchiladas!  I think the mushrooms were canned, though - no me gusta.  The rice on the side was your typical ho-hum rice, but there was also a pile o' cornbread-tasting "stuff" I've never had before that was pretty awesome.  Needless to say we both cleaned our plates.

Service was phenom even though I busted out a 2-for-1 dinner entree coupon (which, in my experience, sometimes puts a damper on waitstaff attentiveness).  We had refills of our chips and salsa, too.  I about rolled out of there food coma-style.

If it weren't for the coupon I had, I probably never would have chosen Chevy's...now, I must say I'd definitely return.

What a joke this place is. The website say $3.99 Happy hour specials so some of my co-workers and I decide to check it out. We asked the waitress as we sat down about the happy hour specials and she says no happy hour drink specials but $3.99 appetizers so we weren't going to make a big fuss at least the food would be cheap. Some of the other gals raised a little fuss about it because the website never said that it would vary by location.
As our waitress was the worst ever and even had to go to the bar to order drinks because she forgot to place them. When we get our bill none of the apps were $3.99 all higher we got him to comp our bill but still so frustrated why do you advertise $3.99 but your not going to ring up as $3.99

This place is OK, but nothing special. I've been here a number of times and it is hit or miss. The best thing that I tried so far is their seafood quesadilla. However, their rice, skillets, beans, and tortillas are an embarrassment to Mexicans. But, the biggest problem with this place is unreasonably high prices for this area and quality of food/atmosphere. For example, a bottle of beer costs more than $5.00!!!! Even some finer restaurants have better prices around here. Who do they think they are, charging more than five bucks in the suburbs for a bottle of beer. Also, they used to have $3 Margarita Thursdays (or Wednesdays), but they made a stupid decision to get rid of them.

So, if you live in Schaumburg and you want to go to a clean Mexican restaurant, you will have to sacrifice the taste of food and your money and go to this place. However, if you don't mind dirty hole-in-the-wall places - there are plenty of real Mexican Taquerias in the area that are way less expensive and taste way better.

Yea yea yea, I know, what was I thinking?? Well it went something like, hmmm, where can I get some good, crappy Americanized Mexican at an expensive price??  Chevy's FTW !!

I think it had been at least a decade since eating here, prob longer, and remember it being meh back then, but for some reason, I felt like Mexican and this place was right in the area and thought I'd give it another shot.

    Oh boy. Not good.

I did the mix and match lunch diddy which included one ground beef taco and a chicken enchilada w rice and beans.  The enchilada was drenched in an overly sweet red sauce and the shredded chicken was sub par quality.  Ground beef taco had some sweet concoction thrown in the mix that wasn't the best either, and to top it off the hard shell taco was stale.  The black beans were indelible.

The bill was nearly 15$ before tip, that's outrageous.  What's more outrageous is that a pop will set u back 3$.  Give me a break, and...

    [x] give it a miss

    2 star mexican food
    3 star mexican bar
    4 star salsa and chips.

My dad consistently goes here just to pick up chips and salsa and take them home. I'm just saying that about what you should use this place for. I have gone here (not by choice) a few times and have never been even close to impressed by it.

Good service. Atmosphere is very fake mexican. Salsa is gross with a fake roasted flavor, couldn't get the taste out of my mouth. My entree was lacking flavor. The rice tasted like it was out of a bag.
If you like non authentic mexican food that surely came out of a freezer, microwaved and brought out to you, you will probably love it.

I write this review knowing full well that this is Mex-American. It's not an authentic taqueria and they cater to Gringos. However, for what it is, it is really good. You have many choices and you can tweak the plates to your liking. Almost all of the meals have a fish, chicken or beef option. They also have red sauce, green sauce and a few others. They even tell you what's spicy, what's vegetarian, and they have a special gluten-free list.

I ordered the Mexican Hat Trick dinner combo. I went with carnitas tacos and chicken flautas. Both were excellent and served with a side of fried rice, refried beans and a semi-sweet cornmeal type thing with whole kernels inside. I also started the meal off with a bowl of their tortilla soup, which had a nice zing to it and made me cry a little (I'm a lightweight for spice). The meal was ended with a small dish of friend ice cream. I've had better, but it was a nice way to round off the three course meal.

My total was under $20 and I had a ton of leftovers. I will definitely return and next time order some of their signature fancy cocktail drinks.

You know a mexican place is bad when the salsa is crappy.

This IS a chain place so this really shouldn't be a shocker. In all honestly I probably could have gotten better food and the Taco Bell down the street. I'm shocked that this place has a three star rating. Probably because this is the midwest and "us people" seem to lean towards bland food. Ooh~

If you have to order something get the wings or the fajitas. Drinks are pricy. The only thing that really makes up for it was the kind staff.

After this my entire family got sick to their stomach. Maybe I'm just being sassy because my family got sick. Probably. But I have a right to be. I didn't pay to eat cafeteria food.

    This place is OK.

We came for dinner on a Wednesday night and each of us got the dinner Deal Meal ($11.99 for a salad, entree and dessert). Their unlimited chips and salsa (free) were pretty good. I had the garden salad with the something-chipotle dressing, the chicken taco dinner, and the flan for dessert. I thought the salad was pretty good, the tacos were OK and the flan was OK too.

Sodas are expensive. A sprite rang up at about $2.89. They feature $3 Margaritas which is a good deal, but was not in the mood for a drink.

I liked our server, Teresa. I thought she did a very nice job.

All in all, this establishment is not bad and definitely has some perks to it and food is OK.

Reasonably priced chain mexican place with watery weak margaritas. I'm a 1-2 drink max at dinner girl and I could have probably had about 6 of those before I even felt a slight buzz.

Food wise the portions are generous and the flavors are there. My favorite on the menu is actually the wings. Yum.

The fajitas are good but they're stingy on the salsa, guac, and sour cream.

Its a good place a for a casual mexican meal. Nothing really out of this world good.

I've been a Chevys fan for years.  Although I can't give them 4 or 5 stars because of them being a Chain and sometimes the service is off.

The Corn Tamalito (an accompaniment) is what has me hooked.  I wish they served it as a dish.

Chevy's has good westernized mexican food at reasonable prices.  They also have a fun kid's menu.

BRING BACK THE CHEVYS of Naperville.  It's hard to get my Tamalito fix when they are so far away.

Dinner for 2 adults and 1 kid is usually 40 bucks including drinks and a tip.

I've been eating here since 2000 when I got a discount from a former employer (United Airlines), and its consistently good, not great, but good. Freed chips and salsa is nice though the size of the basket oif chips has been downsized BOOO! Salsa is good though a hint of sweet and a touch of heat. For years I got the combo platter, a taco, enchilada and whatever else came with it. Then I became lactose intolerant (not by choice), and the enchilada had to go, so I switched to fajiatas and they are the best. Chicken is tops, great flavor, nice big pieces, corn paste is killer. Rice has always been just meh and beans, well you know what beans do to most of us.

But this time the tortillas were overdone, not bad but it over cooking them changed the texture so now it was like roti (not killer roti from Flat Top Grille), but just something other than a traditional tortilla, made the meal strange, still good but not has good as usual.

I tell my wife all the time, resturants have bad days, you just don't want to be there when it happens.

We stopped in at Chevy's after a long day of shopping in Schaumburg.  Since the area is chain restaurants galore, we decided Chevys would be a safe bet.

To avoid the wait, we ate at the bar.  The bartender did not seem to fond of us, and the service that followed confirmed.  We ordered the Big Easy BBQ Grill for Two, which consisted of chicken, beef, ribs, and andouille.  We were not in an encased meats mood, so we skipped the andouille for more chicken.  The dish was pretty good, but certainly not the best Tex-Mex I have ever had.  Yes, people...this is Tex-Mex, not Mexican.

Overall, good food but poor service.  For Tex-Mex in Chicagoland, I still prefer Uncle Julio's.

We saw a Lalo's van in the parking lot and mistakenly thought they were affiliated (they're not-I asked).
The server took a while to come over to us, but after that, he was attentive and friendly. The service was good.

The atmosphere SUCKED. It was like a cafeteria. And it was freezing. I am not one of those girls who is always cold, but I was teeth-chattering in there and had to go into the bathroom to warm up by washing my hands with hot water.

The food was not good, either, but there was lots of it. The tacos I ordered were a step above taco bell. The guac was BORING.

Overall, not a fan. One star for not poisoning me. And one for the service only.

I guess Chevy's can be filed under "M" for "meh." I used to remember really liking this place and thinking that as far as chains went it was as good as it gets. I sort of realize in hindsight that's sort of my perception being colored by the good memories of the Chevy's just off of Disney property in LBV, FL. Maybe the food was never that great, but since it was almost always a part of our trips to Disney World, I thought fondly of it.

I guess either my tastes have changed or reality has come crashing down on me because I'm just not really enjoying it as much anymore.

It's far from bad, it's still a solid meal, it's just there are so many other options around Chevy's doesn't exactly seem worth it anymore. The chips are bland, the food itself is hit or miss (why is the beef in the tacos so sweet? I don't want dessert tacos, thank you), and the service isn't that attentive.

Like I said, it's not horrible. For a lot of people it's familiar and consistent, which says a lot. If you're visiting and don't know the area, you could do far far worse. But on the other hand, if you're a local, there are a lot of better options nearby.

Like Mexican food? Love Schaumburg? Like to be called "amigo" every 30 seconds? This is your place. We were attempting to eat at Mad Mark's, but we failed to look at Yelp beforehand -- it's closed. D'oh.

In all fairness, the food is pretty good for chain Mexican. I'd probably give the food 3.5 stars. The salsa is fresh and smoky, the chips are very thin and crispy. The menu is the typical variety of meat + cheese + tortilla, but they do have a few (not many) more authentic/original/interesting choices.

I had fish tacos, which were actually made with salmon, and that sort of impressed me. Usually it's tilapia or the otherwise least expensive fish they can find. The fish was grilled well with a very lovely crispy skin and fresh pico + just enough crumbled cotija. The rice was pretty good and my black beans were tender and well-seasoned. My husband didn't seem overly impressed with anything besides the rice, but he ate it all.

Service was average to mediocre. We got called amigo a lot which annoyed me, and he wasn't super attentive or friendly.

Still, if you're in the Woodfield complex and desire some tortillas, you could do worse. Or you could drive 10 minutes and do better. :)

In all fairness I had no idea what this place was when I walked in the door. Had I known, I never would of stepped foot in this place.

    Drinks-Weak
    Food-Mediocre
Service-Horrible. I believe her name was Samantha? Her acrylic nails were painted blue and were very long and that really grossed me out. Then she dropped the check when I was only 2 bites into my entree (my biggest pet peeve)

I'm giving three stars though. After all it's a chain Mexican restaurant in Schaumburg. So again you can't really go in with high expectations.

Sidenote- I can't even bring myself to speak to the guy that brought me here!

After an afternoon of generic shopping in a generic suburb, it's only fitting to eat at a generic Tex Mex restaurant.

I'm truly a fan of generic, by the way. Who doesn't love the convenience of a well-manicured suburb with a plethora of stores and non-threatening restaurants?

Chevy's you will always be comforting to me because of your strong margaritas, delicious chips and salsa and variety plate dinners (because I'm a Libra and making decisions is equal to water boarding to me). I like to sit at a table in the bar area and watch football or baseball and try for a brain freeze from too many original margaritas.

And the little scoops of sweet corn dotting my plate.. OMG soooo good. Screw beans and rice, bring on the corn!

Chevy's you are my go-to stop when I'm in Schaumburg.

I have to say that this place was surprisingly good.  There are several Mexican food chains that you can go to, and the food is just horrible.  That is not the case at this Chevy's.  The service was swift, the drinks were great, and the food was awesome.

I think what stands out in my mind the most was the guacamole.  When we ordered the guacamole, our server came back to our table with a tray, and some fresh avocados and proceeded to make the guacamolie right in front of us - it is by far the freshest guac I ever had at a a restaurant.

The entrees were good as well.  The portions were very generous and had lots of flavor.  The drinks we had were not overly spiked with liquor to where you couldn't taste the drink, but they werent weak either - great balance on that.

    I would come again anytime!

I had never heard of Chevy's Fresh Mex, but a group of friends decided to go here to vary from the usual suburban food choices of TGI Fridays, Appleby's, etc.

I thought hey it's probably like Chili's (which I love) right? Not so much.  I found that the food was kinda on the pricey side despite the fact that like most Mexican restaurants they give you quite a bit of food. We went at about 3pm on a Sunday afternoon and the service was not that great. We had to ask our server for chips and salsa and also had to ask for refills on water.

Three of us had the Smothered Burrito, two had chicken and one had beef. I had the chicken. Ugg I do not like dark meat chicken. Also, the chicken in this burrito was very chunky and not shredded like most burritos are.  Also, I do not like the consistency of beans, but I do like refried beans when they are mushed up pretty good. These beans were mostly whole--both on the side and in my burrito. I did like the salsa that was served with the tortilla chips as well as the red sauce that was on top of my burrito.  Overall, the food was not as flavorful as other Mexican food I have enjoyed.

Update 092407: I wanted to try a different entree, and even contemplated the spicy wings appetizer, until I caught sight of the promotion that was swinging on a tabletop whatchamacallit and I knew right then and there I gotta have that pineapple upside-down cake dessert. The sponge cake was moistly soft and the pineapple sinfully sweet. It helped that the dollop of vanilla ice cream and whipped cream were light enough to combat the sweetness. As for the generous caramel/Kahlua sauce around the cake, there's no need for it.
Like they say in advertising: hurry! for a limited time!
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I balked when a friend suggested going to Chevys. First off, with a name like that, I thought it was generic American food. But I managed to sneak into yelp before heading out to realize it's a Mexican restaurant. Great! Another Mexican chain. With so many "authentic" Mexican restaurants around here, I have to pay to go to this!

It wasn't atrocious, that much can be said. I do enjoy the little scoop of sweet corn whatever. Give me a whole bowl of that for my dessert and you'll have a repeat cutomer.

Our waiter Juan "Hot Tamale" is extremely sweet. I just want to give him a shout-out.

I've always loved the food from Chevy's, especially anything that mixes habanero in (..fajitas...yum!).

I have to kick Chevy's down to three stars since I had an awful experience there with some friends and they haven't been back since.

I went with a group of eight friends and they sat us pretty quickly.  However, as we ordered the waitress for actually had the audacity to argue with my friend about an item being on the menu or not.  After he physically showed her the item on the menu, she begrudgingly wrote the item down, without an apology.  As we began to receive our meals, three of them came out wrong!

1 - One friend only received two of the "Pick Three" combo and when he asked the waitress, she didn't apologize or say that she would see what she could do, but she actually told him that he did not order that.  We all stared at her incredulously as he slowly said, "Excuse me?"  Then she said she would look into it, which she never did.

2 - Another friend received steak instead of chicken, didn't want to argue, and ate it anyways.

3 - The last story came when someone wanted habanero steak fajitas, but they gave my friend the regular.  The waitress then accused him of lying to her, saying, "You ordered the regular, I remember.  You did not order the habanero !"

We had no intention of giving this woman a hard time.  My friend (that had the meat mix-up) walked to the bathroom and heard the waitress say "a$$holes" under her breath as he walked by.  Anyways, we got furious and told the manager that he didn't want that want that waitress to tend our table again after recounting the story.  He apologized up and down and comp'd us dessert.

They had the gall to automatically add gratuity since we had a table of eight.  We pulled the manager aside again and demanded that he remove it as we slid him a personal tip for the assistance.

I cannot say enough about the margaritas!  They are the best in the burbs!  My favorite is the Watermelon, would never have thought to incorporate watermelon with tequila, but it works!

Family friendly too!  There's always families there for dinner.  The wait can be a while, at times, but the food is good, not the best, but good.  The staff is friendly too.

I can't say much bad about it, love the alcohol, like the food, and appreciate that my hubby and I can go there alone or with the kids, and have a good time either way.

Though trained from birth not to judge a book by it's cover, it seems to me that the name Chevy's Fresh Mex at the very least should arouse a certain level of "suspect".

I also tend to shy away from any place that presumes to offer the "Best of the Best."  In terms of the "expectation" game (which has been discussed at length recently on the "Talking Threads" - this one is near impossible to live up to.

And NO menudo or barbacoa or nopalitos belies an indifference to authenticity. The lesson is clear: Look Before You Eat. The name pretty much says it all.

Always consistent.  I loved going to Chevy's when I was in San Francisco so this location is always a treat.  Great chips and salsa.  No need for appetizers since the entrees provide a great balance of volume and taste.  I personally love getting the "Best of the Best" since you get fajitas with a choice of taco, tamale, enchilada, etc. for only $10.99.  The fajitas come on those huge platters with sour cream, salsa, guac, rice, and beans.  Oh yeah, the corn tomilito (sp?) is a good little end to your meal.

Also, I prefer their tortillas here than anywhere else.   Don't know why, but maybe because you can see them coming out of their tortilla machine, 'El Machino'.

Bottom line:  Good consistent 'Fresh-Mex'...  Tastes light, but isn't. :)
