It's a Chill's and it's a chain. There are others very similar, and there's really nothing outstanding about it. There's always a wait, whether it's 10 minutes or 30 minutes. Once seated, the service is relatively fast. We always check in on foursquare and get chips and salsa. However, our chips the last time looked like they were from "the bottom of the bag". A couple large ones, but mostly just crumbs. Good thing they were free. But, our waitress was nice and service was quick. Though, for the food you get, it's kind of expensive.
Review Source:We had not been to Chili's in a LONG time. Service was good; food was excellent; husband had salmon/veggies and I had a Santa Fe chicken salad. My unhappy surprise: at the beginning our nice server asked if we'd like chips and salsa and we said yes. We were charged for them! I thought this was sneaky and underhanded. Had the server said "Would you like chips and salsa as a starter?" or "How about chips and salsa as an appetizer?" - then we likely would have realized it was a for sale and not a complementary item. Boo.
Review Source:I'll admit, I'm not a real big fan of chain restaurants in general, but Aurora isn't exactly overflowing with quality dining options (I'm relatively new here, so please enlighten me if I'm wrong). Regardless, the one "good" thing about these types of chain restaurants is that you're supposed to get the same food/service/etc no matter which location you're at. This location sucked.
After waiting almost 30 min for our food, it was me and my 19 month old son, it finally came out. One of their specials was "Spicy Shrimp Tacos". I ordered than, along with some mac-n-cheese for the boy. I expect his mac-n-cheese to look like it came out of a box, but not my shrimp tacos. They were cold when I got them, the shells were hard like they'd obviously been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. I wanted to say something to the waitress, but she didn't come to check on us the entire time we were there. So I ate them, because I was damn hungry. But the food and the service sucked, plain and simple.
In all fairness, after I told the waitress what I thought of the meal she immediately got the manager, who without even asking comped my entire bill. Very nice try on the management's part, but I didn't go there to eat a free lousy meal. I went to pay for a descent meal, and what I got couldn't have been farther from that.
Out of the last 5 times we have ordered meals to go at this Chili's, they have forgotten part of our order. Â We ordered Steak Fajitas, got it home, opened the package, and they had forgotten to put the STEAK in the styrofoam container! Â Get in the car and drive all the way back! Another time we ordered 2 Hamburgers, got home and found they had forgotten to give us fries! Another trip back. Â No apology from the employees. Another time the girl quickly rang up our order and forgot to give us our points for the VIP Club. She said she couldn't do it once the order was rung up. My husband asked to speak to the manager, who never did show up, but suddenly the girl remembered that she could give us our VIP points. Â We have started insisting that they open the containers in front of us and show us the food before we leave, and they act annoyed.
Review Source:Usually Chilis is fairly priced and the food is decent, but now they are charging $1 for entertainment fee on your bill. I'm guessing for the new gaming kiosks they have at each table.
I have decided to boycott Chilis till they get that fee off. If they want to put kiosks at every table, by all means, but not on my dime.
I officially quit you, Chili's. About once a year it's convenient and I hope you've changed your ways, but you always disappoint.
After waiting in the lobby for what seemed like 10 minutes with no hostess appearing, we finally called the restaurant and THEN the hostess appeared to answer the call and sat us without any comment about her inattentiveness.
Both parties in my group ordered off the "Guiltless" menu. Both of us were very disappointed by the uninspired, lazy approach to calorie reduction at Chili's: simply give you less despite charging more. We both received low quality tiny sirloins strewn with sinew and fat and about 6 florets of plain steamed broccoli. Mine was undercooked & had to go back, which you just know is going to happen when the waitress asks you to check them before she leaves. It's the hallmark of a crappy steak restaurant, there's no faith by anyone that your meal is cooked properly...
Overall it was a $40 meal that was worth maybe $20. Everything about this place stinks of uninspired laziness. blech.
A lot of people don't realize that Chilis has call-ahead seating. You can be placed on the waiting list before you even get there. This is awesome .... if .... the host isn't a complete moron. Called ahead about 30 minutes before we got there and checked in as soon as I got there. The host acknowledged me, pointed at my name on a sheet of paper next to his main sheet, and told me if would only be a few minutes.
After waiting 10 minutes, I noticed people who came in behind us were being seated. My husband assured me it was because they were large parties and since there were two of us they didn't want to waste large tables on us.
After 5 more minutes, my husband went to ask the host, at which time the host lectured him on checking in when you get there. "You can phone ahead," he said, "but you still have to check in." I walked up and said that I had checked in for us and he stared at me blankly like he had never seen me before. Then he TOLD me (in a stern voice) that calling ahead was not enough. That I had to check in. I told him I had checked in with him and recollected our whole conversation - how he pointed at the sheet of paper and told me it would be a few minutes. Again, he asked me if I had checked in. I wondered if he was on drugs.
Eventually, we were seated, and our waitress was great. But I still can't get over the rudeness of the host. Not even an "I'm sorry." I won't be going back.
You know what? I hated Chili's. I always have. But Ive kinda been sold on some of its more endearing qualities. Like the fact that its 2 minutes from the bf's house. Or the fact that Chili's To Go is effortless. Or the fact that I never ever ever pay for chips and salsa anymore. Ever. Thank you Foursquare for that delightful treat. I appreciate it more than you know. My waistline does not thank you...but we have a difference of opinion.
So I've never actually dined in at this particular location...but here's what I do know.
The To Go staff ROCKS. Went for pick-up on St. Jude Day (Don't even get me started on the awesomeness of St. Jude Day). Messed up the bf's ribs (forgot to request Memphis Rub--oops!), When she showed me the food, I was like...hmmm that doesn't look right. Oohhhh. Explained my err. She fixed it in a quick 7 minutes. Wonderful Girl.
I always order the same thing. Margarita Chicken. It's really really freaking delicious. The beans have flavor. The rice has flavor. The chicken is LOADED with flavor. Is good. Even better with salsa...and guacamole...and queso. I'm just saying...is gooood.
2 for $20 is also my friend. (free guac with your 2 entrees anyone?)
Also, when you get guac and queso...you also get TWO bags of chips...and TWO Â containers of salsa!
Thanks North Aurora Chili's for making me a believer in, well, Chili's.
Yep, this is a chain but instead of rating their dine-in service, I'm going to rate their "Chili's To Go" service which is what MK and I decided to do last night (12/16/2007). Â Don't get me wrong, having every family member known to man around our house for the last 2 weeks has been fun and all the food they make and bring is fantastic, but we needed to be just, well, different for a night.
So I called in an order of Shanghai Boneless Wings, a Mix 'n Match Babyback Ribs dinner and a Chicken Fried Steak. Â My order was taken quickly and upon pick-up was accurate and ready. Â They told me it would be ready in 20 minutes. Â I showed up at minute 22 and it was red-to-go.
Upon arriving at home, we unpacked and I actually was amazed at how they had all the different items packed individually but WITH the main courses. Â There were little styrofoam containers for the cinnamon apples for the Ribs and my mashed potatos and gravy were packaged separately as well (the potatoes separate from the gravy).
All was cooked to order, hot and good. Â A remarkably amazing feat in these days with carry-outs and other things. Â We live about 4 miles from Chili's so although I didn't have a long ride, given the sit time for the food, the travel time and even the short time we waited on the entrees to eat the boneless wings, the food was still hot and good.
Good job to Chili's!!! Â I really, truly am amazed.
