I feel like I am cheating on our old favorite Chinese restaurant with this place. It is now my familes favorite Chinese restaurant in town. The chicken, beef and roast pork are great. The wontons are fresh and the egg rolls are handmade. The service is awesome. The owners are very friendly. We go to this neighborhood gem once month. Check it out.
Review Source:I really like the food here. I haven't tried the Thai food but being an asian I can't eat Thai food from a Chinese joint. It's never done correctly. This is IMO.. but I did try their chow fun which my husband LOVES. He's a picky Taiwanese and when he had it their he was very satisfied. It tasted like authentic chinatown food.
Also, I really liked general tao's chicken. Overall, I go their pretty frequently and I highly recommend it.
Here's yet another new takeout Chinese/Thai restaurant in the neighborhood. For those familiar with the area, it is directly across the highway from Bowcraft Playland.
There are over 100 dishes on their menu; I sampled five. I tried two soups--classic wonton ($3.15/qt), and what they call Lemongrass Coconut Chicken Soup, with kaffir lime leaves, asparagus, and shittake mushrooms ($6.25/qt). The wonton soup was quite good, with a flavorful broth and delicate wontons, however, the lemongrass soup was dreadful. I expected something akin to Tom Kha Gai, but what I got was a quart of plain, completely flavorless coconut milk with some blanched julienned chicken breast, asparagus, and diced mushroom in it. I did not taste any lemongrass or lime at all. No galangal, sriracha, or other seasoning either. Just totally bland. I would not order this again.
I also tried the Vegetable Pad Thai, the Mongolian Beef, and the Pineapple Fried Rice with chicken and cashews. The Pad Thai ($10.95) was pretty good. I ate the whole thing. The Mongolian Beef ($10.95/qt) was fair, the beef was a little chewy, but it had good flavor.
The fried rice ($9.95/qt) was a bit spicy, although not indicated as such on the menu. The rice was properly cooked, and there was a hint of pineapple, but no other vegetables in it, a minimal amount of chicken, and only a few cashew nuts in the entire dish. Passable, but not too inspired.
So, two good dishes, two so-so, and one to avoid. I might go back to try some other items, but still prefer Jade Garden in Westfield for takeout Chinese.
