Two stars and only being kind. Their buffet has remained almost completely unchanged in all the years they've been there. Their to go meals are much better. The steam table is not as warm as it's supposed to be the food was not hot. Not good food handling practice. I really like the family that owns it but it's food is so so.
Review Source:They don't have anything lower than 1 star? This place may look pretty from the dining area, but let me tell you; if you are concerned about your health... don't look in the kitchen.
We were here once and as we walked in, they had the door open to the kitchen. There was a cook pulling apart chicken. No big deal... until he sneezed on his hands, wiped his hands on his apron and kept pulling apart the chicken.
Another time; a couple of us from work thought we'd give them another chance. While we were eating there was a fly, flying around the restaurant. One of the servers was watching it very closely and had a fly swatter in his hand. The fly landed on one of my coworkers plates, and the server killed the fly with the fly swatter ON HIS PLATE and goes "Got it!".
Lastly, I had to work out here once. We had to work up in the ceiling area through the roof. We told them that they needed to close down while the work was being done and cover all of the grills, food, and sauce. They said no. So, we went to work. While we were working, debris from the ceiling, insulation, and who knows what else; fell into a 5 gallon bucket of teriyaki sauce. When we said something, the cook just looked at us; picked it up, stirred it, and dumped it on the chicken.
Not to mention that "buffet food" that you all like; well, it sets out over night uncovered and unrefrigerated and then is reheated the next day and served to you... I would stay away from this place if I was you!
You can order from the standard red-and-green print menu (dine-in or take-out), or get the buffet.
The quality of the buffet was kind of mixed. Dishes varied from excellent to bleh. Â
For this price level ($7.90 for dinner buffet, including drink and tax) it was a great value and had more dishes, more desserts (including vanilla and chocolate soft serve ice cream) and a better salad bar than I would have expected.
Two of the shrimp dishes were excellent. The fried rice was excellent.
Many of the steam tray items were good. But some of the hot meat/veg dishes had that thick glazey sauce that seems to blend together and ruin all the flavors; it's like the recipe seemed right, but the execution/preparation was off.
The dining area is large, and eat-in customers were sparse, but they had a steady stream of customers ordering take-out. So I would imagine that the menu orders were fresher and better prepared. Â However, I had no problem finding enough really good stuff on the buffet to fill me up.
It looks like a mom-and-pop operation, with their teen-age or college-age children as the hired help.
I feel for the parents of teenagers. Teens are teens, and moms are moms, no matter where they're from or what language they speak. I don't speak Mandarin or Cantonese, but a mother/daughter argument is identifiable in any language. It was kind of fun making up my own translation in my head, based on their body-english and tone of voice.
Cleanliness: Â a sticky table-top, Â and the condition of the men's room had room for easy improvement. Â
I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but if you're in the neighborhood, it's a great "value meal."
