The beer selection here is AMAZING. They've also got a bottle shop so you can try out new beers in the convenience of your own home. I ordered the Fish n Chips and it was one large piece of fish. Very tasty. My wife ordered the grilled cheese. It had truffle oil in it, so she loved it.
We'll definitely be back to introduce friends to Churchill's.

I lived close to this place for 9 years and didn't go often.  Once someone invited me for wing Wednesday I was hooked.  They have the best Guiness BBQ sauce and decent sized wings!

If you're a beer drinker they have several choices.  You can sit in the bar, dining room or they have a small outdoor area.  The bartenders do a great job at making sure you're taken care of (even when they are blown up busy)

Management here seems to care which is a great thing!

I will say- If you're short.... female and you go to the ladies room.  You can't see if you have BBQ all over your face because you need a step stool to see the mirror!!!!!  I guess if that is my only complaint then they are 5 Stars!  ;-)

Probably the best bar in North County. Amazing rotating beer selection and a great menu; definitely check out the Kobe burger. I wish I could make the drive out to San Marcos more often. The only bad part is I wish they had a larger patio.

This is a hidden treasure.  I met a guy getting my coffee at the better buzz and he worked at church hill and told me about the chef and food menu.  I was impressed with what he said so I gave it a try.  Its was really good.  I had the special that day which was a very spicy burger that was awesome.  They also allow dogs on the back patio.  The prices were good for the food portion size, and the quality.  The service was great and the atmosphere was family, which was surprising but nice

Churchills will probably always be my go-to for as long as I live in North County.

Wait staff knows us pretty well by now. I enjoy stopping in during quieter times (Sunday for football, when I used to get off work at 2pm), but the busier night are fine as well. Love the selection of beers and the food is much better than some other pubs I've been to. I've never had a problem with them being out of things that are on the menu as other people apparently have, so I don't know what that's about.

The people there do their job well and can give you better answers than, "um, I don't know."

My only complaint is that there seems to be an added restriction or price increase to Wing Wednesday almost every time I go. To a degree, I get it. Time is money, cost of running a business, yadda yadda yadda. I just think that at a certain point, it's going to stop being "AWESOME! IT'S WING WEDNESDAY!" and become "It's Wednesday. Boo."

I am completely flummoxed as to why anyone would give this place anything less but five stars.  The beer selection is fantastic and extensive (even for stout, which is the only beer I can drink), the food is simple and yet perfectly prepared and artful, and the atmosphere is relaxed and all about baseball on the televisions.  I am IN LOVE with this place...and am grateful for the enthusiastic and attentive service.

The food was very good, the irish nachos were fantastic. The mozzarella sticks portions were small but still delicious. I had their dinner special that was a coffee steak with a baked potato and vegetables and that was also very good.
The atmosphere was also extremely inviting. There are plenty of large TVs and the staff was extremely friendly and courteous. They seated my large party in a requested location and constantly collected dirty plates and refilled drinks.
There also is a very large and robust collection of beer available

If I'm ever back in the area and looking for an Irish pub to drink myself silly and pound away on some amazing, but unhealthy, food, I'll be back at Churchill's.

Churchill's came highly recommended during a brewery tour nearby. The local and obscure beer selection was outstanding and our waitstaff was fantastic. My buddy ordered the fish and chips and loved it. It was Father's Day and I had the Dad Burger which was pretty kick arse.

One awkward thing - the men's restroom has a toilet and a urinal, but isn't meant for two people in there at once... I learned that the hard way. But still, not as bad as being the third guy in the room... Mr. Fish 'n Chips with me learned the even harder lesson. Please lock the door behind you.

I love this place for their dart boards and beer selection. The bartenders are always friendly and you run into the most interesting people here. I also love that they have an outdoor area with a fireplace if you want to take a beer outside.  I would choose this bar over the other ones on San Marcos blvd, especially over players.

I love coming here to catch up with old high school friends. This place is always open late and it's my go-to spot for a quick drink or a few games of darts. I like coming here when it's not that busy. Wing Wednesday is cool...for the first timers and if you like the big crowds, but I like it when it's toward the dead side. Easier to talk to the person in front of you, pool table to yourself, more games of darts, faster service, and closer parking! If you are like me then stay away from Wing Wednesday nights.

I also like it here because they play a lot of English Premier Soccer games. There is always a beer of the month that is reasonably priced and their beer on tap is awesome. It's all laid out on the wall which is easy to read instead of looking at a menu.

The food is good here too. I usually come here for the drinks and the company. Rum and coke $3!! Holla! If you come here a lot you will start seeing the same old people...Kent Du, Jessica V., Nick B., the list can keep going. If you see a small asian guy with glasses that is Kent Du. I believe everyone knows him here by first and last name haha. If you like talking politics or business Kent Du is your guy! His drink of of choice is Johnnie Walker on the rocks...Black or Red Label, if you can afford it, get him some Blue Label...please! haha If you don't want to talk to him, at least start randomly shouting "Kent Duuuuuuuu!"

Perfect for what it is.  Pub food, an ever changing rotation of delicious beers and great for specials all the time.  I have never had a bad experience.

Only complaint is the parking.  Everything else is top notch.  Well-run establishment.

Who knew!  Was scared away from British pubs in San Marcos by another one down the street.  Decided after years to give this one a try.  So glad we did.  Fish & chips was amazing.  Fries were crispy and slightly burnt:). The Guinness BBQ wings were finger licking good.  We will for sure go back!

I love this place. The food is great and also reasonable. The beer selection is epic and the bartenders know their stuff. My favorite thing about Churchill's, is the type of crowd that it draws. I have met so many neat people here, that continue to be close friends of mine.

For years I've heard that Churchill's serves a mean burger. I finally dropped in for lunch the other day with a friend. Service was prompt and friendly. The "Bacon & Blue" caught my eye, so I tried it.
This is a generous high quality offering with thick applewood bacon, real blue cheese, and sauteed mushrooms. Delightful! The accompanying fries were an appropriate match.
I'm happy to say the experience was well worth the trip. Best burger in San Marcos!

What a find... They have a huge list of beers and a good selection of food.
Got the fish and chips, opt for stir fried veggies instead of cole slaw..
Very very good fish and chips, veggies were awesome, very simple stir fry but had tons of flavor.. Fries were good..
Service was excellent... Every waiter was always walking around checking to see if anyone needed anything... And they all worked as a team..
I've lived in San Marcos for over 25 years and drive by this place every single day... Finally came in for a try and will add this to one of my regular eating places. Great job!!!

A couple of years ago this became my go to spot for a cold beer on a Thursday night. In fact, I wasn't a real beer fan until I starting hanging out at Churchills. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to the ins and outs of "good" beer but I can always find  a staff member there willing to walk me through the beer list and pick out something that fits my tastes. The food is creative and tasty; if they're pimping breadpudding then GET IT.

When you come in you'll notice that it seems that everyone knows each other here...don't be intimidated by it, it's an easy place to become a regular.

This place is a great place to call your regular pub with a very large draft beer selection and then more in bottles. The food is definitively above your aver age bar with delicious Sunday night specials and scrumptious desserts. Atmosphere is warm and comfortable.

I never hesitate to drop in for a pint or dinner if I'm in the area (which is unfortunately not that often anymore.

Tons of beers on tap. Wing Wednesday has 55 cent wings (or 65 if you want fancy flavors) and the wings are gargantuan. It was my first visit but I'm truly impressed with the place. Our server was quick on his feet and helped us select beers. He recommended an IPA that was really great, one of the best I've ever had. I'd trust him picking beers for me in the future. The place was super busy, but I understand because of the sick deal those wings were. I'll be back to this place, even though it's all the way out in San Marcos.

A most enjoyable pub in a most unexpected area of town.

I pretty much do anything to avoid taking the 78 freeway.  It is bar none, the worst freeway in San Diego County.  But I will do it if I am having drinks at Churchill's Pub.

First, it has an amazing, amazing beer selection that is ever changing.  Microbrews of all sorts, local brews, ciders, the whole gamut.

Second, the food is proper and tasty pub grub.  My friends liked the fish and chips.  The Irish Nachos were tasty too.  I stuck with a simple salad, but everything was fresh, which is important.

Finally, the decor is perfect.  Similar to a pub in England, it has wood everywhere and cozy tables, inviting you to spend hours chatting with your friends.  The crowd is pretty cool too and it draws a lot of CSUSM kids.

Awesome place, great service and atmosphere. This place has been on the list and when got here, there was not an iota of disappointment.
Traditional style wooden chairs and tables with modern style beer taps plus great service makes it all a place to be at.

Food menu has a variety of dishes including tikka masala which can be ordered to serve on chips too (hmmm). Nachos are delicious, and so are chicken wings. Had half an half of Ivan's Revenge and Buffalo, both are good. Ivan's Revenge are hot wings, and leave some burning sensation, however gets ok with ranch dressing.
Plenty of beer to pick from, from local to Irish to German and Belgian. Smithwicks is by far my favorite. There is also Monkey slow smoked beer which depends if one has taste for it.

Parking is a bit compact and limited however one can find around.

This place knows its beer.  If you do not like good beer, get out.  Seriously.  We don't want you here.  No, Bud Select doesn't count.  The brews I tried amongst my friends were all awesome, but the one that actually tasted of sex in a glass was called Santa's Little Helper, a brandy barrel aged stout sent straight from the mouth of the Flying Spaghetti Monster himself.  I actually had a shiver run through me at the first sip.  Heavenly.  R'amen!

The food is also seriously a treat.  Everything from the cheese platter to the Irish nachos to the fish and chips is wonderful.  Especially that crispy beer batter on the fish -- YUM.  I almost felt bad to drench such an amazing batter in malt vinegar, but you know it had to be done.

It's a really good thing San Marcos is a bit of a drive for me or else I'd probably see an inverse relationship between my wallet and my waist line.

I love a good pub and you should too. It's honestly probably part dive bar and part pub. Pub for the dozens and dozens of tapped beers, hardwood floors and tables. Dive bar for the people, decorations, vibe.

I've been coming here for years and I've seen fights a many a night. 2-3 security guards in the evening means people get wasted and rowdy. I've never eaten here, don't plan to honestly. I have this thing where I don't eat where I drink, but I'll drink where I eat. It's a mindset thing.

Very traditional set up, expanded a few times, parking can be bad, but the bartenders are great, they serve imperial pints so please don't tell the cops, you only had 3 beers. They've got enough to drown the needing with national and some local crafty suds.

Big fan of the firepits they put in, wish is was a little more tucked away. After all the years coming here I surprisingly remember very little about my time here. Bathrooms are small, a little funky. It's well lit, small bar area and a single pool table. When it's packed playing pool is a waste for everyone. If it wasn't for that orientation I'd prefer they leave the door open, but they can't due to the wind.

I've been here many times during their beer events. I've always been lucky enough to get a waitress there named Tanya. Her service has always been amazing, no matter how busy and crazy it is in there. She's a superstar waitress!!

As far as their food, I'd highly recommend the Stout burger. It's the best burger I've ever had anywhere. All their food is really good, but I've tried a lot of it and the stout burger is the best. Order it, and you will not regret it.

The owner Ivan is a really great guy, the beer selection is always outstanding, and the food is delicious. Whats not to love about this place?

Okay. This place is heaven for beer connoisseurs. Seriously, I know good beer with all the fervor and devotion that Catholics have when kissing the beads of their rosaries. In fact, if Baby Jesus weeps tears, they are served on tap at this place.

If you like Miller and Bud, then bugger off. You have no business being here. This place has a HUGE variety of ALL TYPES of beers. Sours, stouts, porters, IPAs, good god they have it all.

So I had the Karl Strauss Queen of Tarts, a stour aged in a bourbon barrel with cherries. Then I had the Laguintas Somoa sour stout. I had no idea such a thing existed, but it was pure deliciousness and I almost cried. I also had the Stone Mint Chocolate stour brewed by Ken Schmidt. It was smooth, refreshing, yet full of deep rich notes and strength that a good strong stout should offer. I even had a fine Russian Imperial stout that caused me to see the Blessed Virgin with every sensational sip.

There are so many beers i want to try. They even have lots of bottled options that shocked me silly. They have Belgian Trappist dark ales!!!! Evil Twin Imperial stout!!! Sour Lambics!!!! 50/50 Eclipse stouts!!!!!

    God.....my excitement.....

Also, if these guys couldn't make me fall in love with them just for the beer itself, their beer expert staffed on site knows his stuff, and is really friendly!

And...and....BEST fish and chips I have had this side of the pond! The fish was cooked perfectly, with an amazing beer batter. Damn good chips too.

Damn. I'm going to get super fat....... Crap......

I was really excited to check this place out, and was a little bit disappointed when I did... The ambiance was a little dive-y (I like a dive bar now and then, but I didn't expect that vibe here), and the layout is awkward (I nearly got hit by a pool cue walking in).

The food was ok. I ordered the fish and chips, which they are apparently known for. Not bad, although I've had better. The beer list was pretty extensive, and our server seemed pretty knowledgeable about it, which was nice.

Not sure if I'll be back or not...

So before I gave this place 4 stars as all I had there was beer, scotch, and chicken wings... I suggest sticking to that. The servers are very friendly and hard working so first and foremost I'd like to compliment the staff and management on that end. Now the reason for 2 stars...

    As someone in the food and beverage industry I appreciate creative simplistic bar food and brew. My girl and I sat down and were starving so ordered chicken wings always a favorite if you can't get them from the east coast. My lady ordered the Soup of the day which was Chili and oddly enough crossed out on the specials menu but then written in pen (Still Serving!). This was strange to me as in that case I assumed they added some stock, tomato paste or some item to stretch what they had. When it came I was right it seemed. I've never seen Chili with no beans and just tomato watered down ground beef. First Fail. Then moving on to the main entree which we are simple and both got burgers. I ordered the Parliament Burger described as;

Wagyu Beef patty, Truffle Cheddar Cheese, and seared Panchetta, Perfection.

First of all... if you are going to write "Perfection" in the description of your burger and have the balls to charge $15 for a burger with fries it better be as you say.

However this was a giant fail and insulting to the consumer. I understand you serve great alcoholic drinks to people in high quantities that might trick them into thinking this is a great burger. Let it be known that after 2 great Scuplin IPA's this was more of a garbage burger than a perfection burger. The bun was soggy with blood I ordered it Medium, the meat was bland and unseasoned the truffle cheese although I love truffle cheddar tasted like a shoe in this combination. The panchetta looked like bacon that was left on the flattop for 10 minutes past proper cooking. It was black, hard, salty and burnt...hardly what I expected from perfection.

Granted I've worked in the front and back of house and understand it was Friday night so tried to not be that guy and send it back so I requested some garlic mayo to help the dryness on the burger....it did help however my girl described the whole burger as a "throw up burger".... I don't know what you call perfection...maybe after a night of drinking Scotch and eating this burger throwing up might feel like perfection to get this disgusting attempt at creative pub food out of your body.

Other than that her normal just hamburger was good and came with lettuce, tomato, and onion as I thought my burger would but apparently Perfection doesn't include anything moist or fresh.

Bottom Line: Don't write perfection on your menu you arrogant idiot! Especially when you can't come close to delivering.

I will probably be back for beer and scotch however next time I'll make the trip elsewhere when I want to eat.

This is where I come to pick up 21-year-old college kids from CSUSM. Ok, ok, just kidding but be forewarned that this is where all the college kids come on Wednesday nights because its $0.50 wing night.  If you want to feel old at heart, come here to people watch.  Or, you can just order a beer at the bar and pretend you don't feel like an old maid.

Anyway, this British style Pub gets my business because they have one heck of a beer list.  Their tapline is a beautiful sight and there are always lots of local options on tap in addition to British faves.  Last night I had my first Rip Current beer. :-)  I don't think I've actually eaten here but I must say that there wings did look really good last night, plump and saucy, just how I like them...wings that is.

Aside from the young kids, one downside to Churchill's is the parking lot.  It's kind of steep and right against the road so you have to back up onto San Marcos Blvd.  Given that, you might want to park in an adjacent lot.

English pub that serves good food and great beer.

Came here to pig out after the Carlsbad half. There were seven of us which gave me an opportunity to try different dishes. If I remember correctly, we ordered the stout burger, spicy burger, corned beef hash, Philly cheese steak, special mac & cheese, fish and chips, salmon, Irish nachos, and the grilled cheese. We also got a variety of beers, but for me it was Guinness of course!

The food was really good and tasty and the beer was awesome. The best part about the meal was enjoying it in an English pub atmosphere.

Visit if you're in the area!

Churchills is fun and has good pub food.  It has changed over the years. There is good selections of British brew which are all served in the the different British glasses. Always busy on the peak nights great for people watching.

They have removed the pub table (which I missed) in the bar area for dinning tables.  Also a new thing is the pool table is not open till 10PM on Friday and Saturday night due to the dinning room has expanded into the bar.

I've been hearing about Churchill's for the past year from friends but since it's way up in San Marcos, I had never been before this past weekend when I stopped by for a friend's birthday. What a wonderful English-style pub!

My boyfriend was impressed with the large selection of beers and I was thrilled to find a spot that served hard apple cider.

The setting is nice and not too crowded, even on a weekend. There's a nice outdoor area with three fire pits too.

Now if only it weren't so far out of the way! :)

I love this place. I have never ordered anything on their menu that I didn't love. I usually go for the specials, but my favorite regular menu meal is the pot roast. So tender and delicious.

    Pros:
    Great food.... Mmmmmmmm mmmmmm good!
Great beer menu, and the servers/bartends are usually great at helping you pick one you like if you are unsure. Sometimes they even have specials, like the sours night. And the do special food menu to go with
Turbo taps... If you don't know what this is, google it. Bars that have turbo taps care about beer
Great service, never felt neglected or left alone, but weren't annoyed either!
Fire pits on patio, on really cold nights, you have to sit so close though. I wish the wall facing the patio was taller to block the breeze.
Well kept dart boards, also well lit, so you aren't straining too much to aim.
Good personable, involved managers, one I met the other night, also very evidently cares about his servers, not just the customer.

    Cons:
TUESDAY NIGHTS... They have 50 cent wings, which is awesome, but only tolerable if you enjoy tons of loud, obnoxious, oblivious college students decending upon you. There are still great people that will come in on these nights... Because the wings are well, delicious, and if enough came in early, maybe the not as awesome ones would have no place to sit... But thats not usually what happens, its like sharks drawn to fish blood... and you can't even hear yourself think over the feeding frenzy.
Runners and bus boys wear the same shirts as servers... I had a few too many beers one night and kept trying to order from the same bus boy... I guess that isn't a legitimate con... But I can't think of anything else.

I went to churchills tonight and decided to write this review right away.

I went to this pub with a couple of girlfriends and one girlfriend was a little tipsy and went to sofly hit our friend in the head but acciently hit a waitress that happened to be walking by. This could have happened anywhere and my friend felt really bad so she aplogizied right away and then apologized again when the waitress walked by a different time. So we went outside and thought everything was cool and we oredered a few shots. Then the manager of the night walks up and pulls my girlfriend aside to tell her she can't take the shot with us because she is too drunk.

Sorry Churchills but I have seen my friend drunk and she was nowhere near that point tonight. Your waitress just got mad that she accidently got hit in the head. But my friend apologized twice and if this waitress is working at a bar then she should be able to handle things better.

I will not be visiting this place again because the way they treated my friend and all of us tonight was just wrong.

Maybe next time hire emplyoees that can handle their job.

Talk about changes! I mean, it's still somewhat of a local pub/dive, but could definitely last in the ring with most popular bar/restaurants. Great staff, lots of beer to choose from, "cheers" like atmosphere, more beer, awesome dishes, even more beer. The food and beer specials (plenty on tap, even more in the bottle) are always rotating giving the foodies and beer drinkers something to continuously look forward to. If it gets too crowded inside (which it does with all tables, Dart Board, Billiards and Foosball), then head out to the fire pits where you can spark a good convo with someone sitting around your pit.
Oh yeah, did I mention the beer?

Besides the amazing selection of beer and whiskey... the fish and chips.

Their Ivan's Revenge hot wings are extremely hot. I almost finished the plate, but went through napkins upon napkins to do so. Unfortunately the wings weren't even good, I just liked the challenge. The hot sauce I'm guessing is habanero, but it had a bad bitter taste. The quality of the chicken meat could be better too, I feel like they serve the cheap plumped up chicken wings you'd buy at a suspicious grocery store.

Also, if you ask for whiskey on the rocks they like to use a LOT OF ICE, so ask them to not use so much, unless you want watery whiskey...

I'd also suggest not getting a very hoppy beer on cask since the temperatures they keep their casks degrade the crisp flavor of fresh hops.

I see all the good reviews, and I really wonder if it was just a really bad day when we hit up this place.  Turned out it was the pick to have a brunch for my birthday - and it was the last day of beer week.  What better place to go than to a well reviewed gastropub that was participating in the beer week, and had great reviews!

We were greeted very well, I can see that the staff is very accommodating and we were seated.   The chargers game was on, and all of us knew better than to pin our day's mood on the charger's performance!

But, things just did not go our way that day.  The featured beer selection of the day (or was it the week?) was depleted and they did not have 50%  of those in the menu.   Let's say all the interesting sounding ones were gone!

Now the food menu.   Again, the menu just sounded like a wishlist of what they would like to have.  They were 'out' of a lot of things!   This was made known to us as we ordered or communicated a bit later when the kitchen presumably threw their hands up in the air!

The beer that they did have was nicely served and was good.   The food, on the other hand, left a lot to be desired.   As though there was no spice level between "So bland that I could actually be eating grass" to "You will be thankful if your tongue just doesn't sublimate in the heat".     When some folks in our group ordered spicy (from what was left to order) they almost had to be resuscitated to recover from the first bite into it.     They were gracious enough replace it with the 'so bland..' stuff.

Apparently when we order spicy it is perceived as a challenge to 'murder' us with non-palatable mouth-melting spice juice!

The wings were good.   Pretty much the only one that passed the taste test.

Overall, the service was good, and friendly.  The food was very average to bad.  And the menu was fictitious (way too many things on the menu not available for me to consider they were even prepared to open for brunch!).

Sorry to be the zit in a melee of great reviews.   I sure hope they were just having a really off-day.

Horrible customer service. My friend was wrongly accused of throwing up in the bathroom at 7pm (someone had apparently thrown up before her) and instead of listening to us and treating us with respect, two bouncers escorted us out.
I am a 48 year old responsible woman who has never even come close to being thrown out of a bar. We were humiliated. Don't go there.
