This guy really knows what he's doing. He is making one of THE BEST beers in San Diego right now. It's the peach apricot hefeweizen and I could sing soliloquies to it. I could compose lyrical poetry, mutter sweet nothings, and praise my own luck for getting to try this beer. My goodness! And this is a beer for everyone! I'm sure there are those out there who wouldn't like it (e.g. if you don't like peaches or apricots), but for the majority of folks, this beer is gonna be a slam dunk. And you can't get it anywhere else! Only right there in his tasting room.
The other beers are pretty great too. I wouldn't be composing a whole paragraph to them, but I'd definitely have some very fine words for them too. Like "great mouth feel," "superb body for a stout," what a "nice roasted flavor," etc.
They're not all hits, but the majority of them are. This puts this brewery up near the top 5, if not top 3, probably top 3, breweries in San Diego. Consider also: Alpine, Societe.
Now I'm not saying this place couldn't go downhill one day. It could certainly amp up production and lose some if it's awesomeness, but it's not happening tomorrow, so get yourself out there stat and sample some of those amazing beers.
Also of note: the service is cool, the ambience is cooler. The truck they had there yesterday was Native Foods which had fry bread and Indian tacos (mmm). The interior looks like an upscale garage, and something you could imagine from the days of Cheers and Happy Days. But it's got a lot of seating (sweet), a simple ordering side of the bar (Order Here signs), and the servers bring you drinks and clean them up too. And the ambience is super chill too. A lot of the people in there looked like they'd be fun to drink with if they were in your family. They're not "party people," but people who you'd like to have at a family reunion, keeping good feelings up just hangin out and talking to people in the nice air.
Well, well, well worth the drive. We went there yesterday and I can't wait to go back.
Since this place has 2 yelp listings, and I thought it was THAT good, I wanted to write a review on both!
We stumbled upon this place on our way to Aztec Brewing and LOVED it. GREAT brews, the owner was super friendly and informative, lots of history behind this family brewing. The ambiance and decor are also probably one of the best in my opinion of all craft breweries. Great space - would love to rent it out for a private party. Owner told us they bring in bands on the weekends so we'll definitely be back!
